Love this place. Its a secret so dont tell too many peeps. Its a wonderful family park and its free. Parking can be an issue if too many people show up-very limited parking, maybe like 20 spots or so. There is a small hill about 2 blocks long that you can sled down. At the base of the hill there is a small pavilion so you can rest and/or picnic. At the base of the hill there are also “free” sleds that people have left behind that you can use for free. Just put back when finished so others can enjoy. The hill and pavilion are not “manned” so everything is honor system and sled at your own risk. There are plenty of launching spots at the top of the hill so no need in rushing nor fighting for a good spot. All the spots are great. There is a decent size dog park right next to the hill. On the other side of the pavilion there is a school and you can access the school elementary play park with swings and slides. Will warn you, walking up to the top of the hill can leave you breathless so caution. Also, if you have some string strongly recommend to bring some so you can tie on sled and pull the kids up to the top of the mountain. One last thing, there is plenty of room for the sled to come to a stop, so dont worry bout n e...
Read moreOur family visited Carter Park during the winter a few times. We found it on google when looking for sledding hills. My son was a little hesitant to go down it, it is a rather nice sized hill, but the great thing is that there are a couple starting off points. That made it easier for my son to warm up to starting at the top.
When you get there, if you want to get some good runs in before everyone gets there, the key is to get there early! We got there about 9:45am the first time and got to sled for over a half hour before we had to share the hill! We didn't know that there were some sleds there for public use until the hill got crowded, so we brought out own. I do recommend bringing your own sleds because there is only a limited number of sleds and snow tubes available for public use.
All in all, this is a great sledding hill, and there is even a dog park next to it, so it's fun for the whole family. Now don't go bringing your dog and leaving him/her in the park by themselves, that's a no-no. Least bring another adult or teen to swap out with so everyone can enjoy the...
Read moreWe’ve been to Carter park for sledding several times. Beautiful view. But This time it was way too bumpy & there were a lot of Collisions. One being a small girl who broke her collar bone by getting hit by another sled. There’s an area on top that sledders were coming from & you couldn’t see them. There were 3 accidents while we were there, same spot. Not safe especially when you have to walk across that path to get to the remainder of the sledding hill. I really hope Carter park fixes this! Also the bumps are not safe either, my son fell off the bumps half way through & hit his head (he’s a tough kid and after that he no longer wanted to sled which says a lot), it’s better to use the side next to the path where it’s smooth but that’s where the...
