I demoed some Apostles today and thoroughly enjoyed my experience! The demo price was VERY reasonable and goes towards the cost of a ski purchase. It's a very cool experience to demo and buy skis from a place like RMU because it's very boutique. It's good to support local businesses as well!
I decided to purchase some Apostles after today but I was a little finicky about what I wanted as the top sheet I enjoyed was out of stock at the Breck location.
Okay. So I take care of people for a living because I work in mental health. I wasn't expecting to feel so cared for myself at a ski shop of all places!
Let's start with how they took me seriously when I walked in with my list of demands for what I was looking for in a ski ans what terrain I wanted to ski. They put me on a men's ski without blinking an eye at the correct length and width under foot. The ski itself is amazing.
The service? Possibly better than the skis which is really saying something because the skis are outstanding. Special thanks to Spencer who helped hunt down the specific ski with top sheet I wanted. Not only did he help with that, he helped me with a boot failure I happened to have same day of the demo. He really went above and beyond what I felt was even reasonable skier communal good heartedness. It was super cool. Again, I felt I was being picky and he didn't bat an eye about it or judge me at all for it. It all took some time to locate the ski I wanted and deal with my weird boot thing, so of course I had a brew with my dog while I waited which was enjoyable too!
And EVERYONE in there is super nice! I think it probably has something to do with being required to ski 50 days a year, but hell, that makes me like the company even more! It means they really get skiers and have a real connection with what you might be looking for.
Like, I want the ladies to hear this one. I was just taken seriously right away. By a man. By men. Multiple. They were kind, they didn't mansplain jacks*. They looked at me, got my height and weight without comment except to say I'd benefit from a beefy ski because I clearly had the leg strength to make it do the thing. It might seem silly to some folks, but to have a man not lowball my abilities or really think I must be mistaken was honestly so refreshing. And I didn't feel like I had to de-feminize myself to be taken seriously either. Again, maybe you laugh reading this, but this was important to me and is important to a lot of serious female skiers. They clearly ski with women and listen to women.
Btw, I'm 5'8" and 170 lbs and they had 176 length skis! Very nice length for my height and weight.
Highly recommend RMU for so many reasons. I've gushed enough.
Just walk inside and you'll see...
Read moreIf you love and want an amazing and welcoming environment with even better food and drinks then RMU is the place for you. There have been multiple times where I have come for a drink or two and ended up staying for the whole night because of everything the bar has to offer!
During the week there is always something going on ranging from bingo to trivia to open mic nights to live bands/dj performances from the best acts in the area. During the day if you want a break from skiing in the winter or mountain biking and hiking in the summer, the bar offers a very friendly and welcoming environment to relax and take in the beautiful community that is Breckenridge.
RMU also has amazing promotions throughout the week and over the course of the year. One of my favorite promotions is the $1 draft promo they will run, it really helps to not break the bank. They also give back to the community by running promotions that raise money for local charities and even hosting a clothing swap at the end of the season.
The drink menu has something for everyone! Whether you want to come in and have a couple Cold Snacks, beers from local breweries, or some of the best cocktails in Breck that the bartenders are proud to create and serve, RMU has you covered. I mean my mom even agrees and told me Dan made her one of the best old fashions she's ever drank and that he was one of the most thoughtful and caring bartenders she's ever been served by. I mean how can you argue with a review from a mom?
The food at RMU has always been delicious and the addition of the new kitchen has only skyrocketed the food that you can get here.
RMU truly embodies what Breckenridge is year round. Where else can you enjoy a delicious meal and a drink while your skis or bike are being worked on in the shop right next to the bar! RMU embodies the motto of "work hard play hard" and will always be the first place I think of when I think of Breckenridge. This bar has become a home away from home. I have met some of my best friends in Breck at RMU. I will always make time for a visit when I am in the area and can't wait to be back for my next trip to Colorado in the...
Read moreI don't normally feel strongly enough to do these reviews, but after tonight's experience I felt compelled to submit this review. The hostess's initial interaction with our group was not friendly, but not enough to make us leave. She told us our group of 10 was going to take at least 30 minutes or so to seat, if at all. We were also told that they were not allowing patrons to congregate at the bar, per COVID requirements. We understood, but were unhappy with the wait time so we moved to a restaurant right across the street. Our observations while sitting at the adjacent restaurant are what inspired this review.
Within the first 10 minutes of seating, we witnessed multiple large groups immediately invited into the restaurant. As reasonable people, we again gave the restuarant the benefit of the doubt as seating could have unexpectedly opened up. After spending approximately an hour at a different restaurant we decided we would give RMU another try.
With 30 minutes to closing time, our group expected to get a quick drink either at the bar or an outdoor table (we saw at least 6 outdoor tables open on our way in), but there was no hostess greeting guests so we walked right in. After a few steps, the hostess caught up with us and immediately told one of our party members there was not room for us and relegated him to the street. The rest of the group was able to enter the RMU and what we saw permanently soured our relationship with the business. Large crowds, indiscriminate standing/seating, open areas, and obvious biases to certain members of our group. Needless to say, we will never patronize this establishment again, and are ashamed we ever even...
