i'm a little picky when it comes to breakfast. I also went today after having had a coffee and a danish so my review is not skewed by one, say, where I may have gone starving. So I felt it would be a good time to give this relatively new comer to the Ahwatukee/west Chandler area a try.
This is a family owned operation that originated down in Bisbee AZ. And while there may be a few others in the valley it is not a chain In the classic sense.
I ordered two eggs with hash browns , bacon, sourdough toast and decided to also try the biscuits and gravy as a side dish.
The place was busy but not overly packed so the food came quickly and was hot and fresh. The biscuits are made on property every day, as is the gravy, and I found both of them quite tasty, with the gravy sausage delivering a wonderful slightly spicy note.
I ordered the eggs medium and they came out perfectly medium, not too well done not too runny. The bacon was standard but delicious and again not too soggy and not too crispy. Just right. Same goes for the hashbrowns… Soft on the inside crunchy on the outside, just the way I like them. The portion size was also very acceptable, In fact if you just added an egg or something else you could easily split a plate. Alma was my server as she was great, super nice and attentive to just the right degree.
Overall I was very satisfied. Finding a decent breakfast option can sometimes be a bit of a hunt and I always prefer a more mom and pop, non-chain option when I can find one.
This place delivered the goods for me and the next time I'm craving a breakfast it will definitely be near the top of my list. definitely give it a shot if you're in the...
Read moreSo much potential. Good atmosphere. Good menu. Great selection of dishes. They even gave coloring pages and crayons to the kids. Each dish came out and looked amazing, however with almost every taste, we were left wanting in flavor. Everything was cooked well and the texture of the food and presentation was also good, but the dishes lacked seasonings to flavor it.
The french toast had cinnamon in the batter, but the bread didn't have any flavor?! I could see the cinnamon in the bread, but you can't really taste it. The same story with the blueberry granola pancakes. There was blueberry and granola added to the batter to make the pancakes, but it was like no other spices were used to give it flavor. The syrup didn't save it. We ordered chicken and waffles. The chicken was battered and fried and the chicken was moist-again no seasoning. It was very sad. The waffles were nice and crispy though.
We ordered the crazy burro and the chicken tender platter as well with the same story. Good ingredients, but they need seasoning.
The corned beef hash was the one dish that had good flavor! The texture was like it had been ground, but it had FLAVOR!!!
We were given ranch, bbq sauce, and honey mustard sauce as sides. I ended up dipping my French toast in the honey mustard sauce for flavor. I have to say the honey mustard sauce was amazing. Lastly, the strawberry lemonade- it will make your mouth pucker and it was delicious! If I were to go back, it would be for the honey mustard sauce and strawberry lemonade. Not the best combo, but I could take it home to enjoy with...
Read moreWe typically go to Over Easy across the street for our weekly brunch but we’ve driven by this place and it had good reviews so we thought we’d try it. So we went here for the first time and last time today. The service was good, everyone greeted us and our waitress was perfectly fine. Unfortunately the food was awful. We thought it was just funny marketing that they quote bad reviews on the back of their T-shirts but they’re actually warnings. I got the huevos rancheros with the green chili sauce. This is my usual breakfast order that I like to try at new places. It came out looking like a bowl of green slop and the entire thing was lukewarm. The refried beans were obviously from a can and weren’t even salted. The green chili sauce that they drowned it in had absolutely no flavor. The only thing enjoyable was the tortilla that came with it since it was at least hot. My husband got the brisket scramble which was questionable at best and came with mushy hash browns. He said the rye toast was good at least. This place is a little pricier than other breakfast places but with the generally good reviews I figured it would be worth it but it was quite the opposite. I would definitely recommend avoiding this place and going to one of the many other breakfast places...
