King Fish Poke — Restaurant in Charlotte

2022 Updated review: place has gone down as far as service and portion sizes in the past couple of years while costs going up. I understand inflation is an issue but the past couple times I’ve gone it hasn’t been the standard that it was when they had more recently opened. I asked for what I always get: spicy crab and spicy salmon, at 4pm on a Friday…the girl working there felt around with the spoon in the spicy crab bowl and I said “I don’t think there’s any left” and instead of going back and getting more she insisted I pick a different protein. (??) (I don’t see how they would’ve been out of the item if there was still regular salmon available, but I could be wrong.) Then, I asked for more of a sauce because the bottle ran out and hardly any came out onto my food and instead of putting more on my food she put it in a Togo container without asking and up charged me $0.25. Just hasn’t been the same in a long time and it’s sad because we loved this place but we probably won’t be back to try again for a long time.

There are a lot of poke places in Charlotte and you might think there's nothing special about this one. You'd be wrong.

I got a large salad bowl with ahi tuna, salmon, spicy tuna, edamame, mango, sweet onions, cucumber, carrot, jalepeño, cilantro, red cabbage, sesame seeds, crab salad, avocado, seaweed salad, onion crisps, garlic crisps, shredded nori, toasted rice puffs, wasabi aoli, and yuzu wasabi.

There are a lot of things I love about this place. The food is delicious. The portions are big. There is a wide variety of toppings AND they give you unlimited toppings. These things aren't common at poke places in my experience.

It's also very reasonably priced. Mine ended up costing $16 with tax, but I got a large and got three toppings that were an additional charge of $3 total (crab salad, seaweed salad, and avocado).

It's set up Chipotle style so you get to go down the line and watch them make your bowl.

I’ve been going to King Fish probably 2-3 times a month for about 3 years now and it is one of the best sushi style restaurants around, always fresh fish, amazing service. King fish has upped my standard for any restaurant or food service in the area. There is truly nothing quite like King Fish, the employees got to know me over these past years and they ask questions about my life that I may have not mentioned in a year. Really an amazing staff and ownership, I will continue to go here and recommend everyone I know to it because it’s just THAT great!
