We've been here twice now. The first time we just stopped in for a quick nibble and a cocktail.
The specialty cocktails, the La Riviera and the Frida, were beautiful, but over the top sweet for our tastes.
The chips and queso with poblanos is probably the best queso we've had in a loonnngg time.
And the carnitas street tacos were sooooo delicious and flavorful! It was so good that we made a plan to come back soon and try more of the menu.
We finally made it back for our second trip this week but overall it was super disappointing. :(.
The first entree we had was the enchilladas mole, which one of us didn't like at all, and the other thought was just okay. This one tasted a bit like 5 spice to us, but in general the flavors were too muddied. The chicken inside the enchillada was not very exciting - it looked like dry chicken breast with some red sauce. The (pretty bland) beans and rice seemed like they came from the same vat that every mexican restaurant uses, lol :D. The fresh flowers garnishes looked nice but unfortunately didn't improve the flavors ;).
The alambre tacos were the biggest disappointment of the night. They had ZERO flavor - it was unseasoned chewy ribeye, some small amount of cheese, and grilled onions. The corn tortillas did taste amazing though!
FYI, the margaritas come from a pre-made batch and for us are pretty par - just have a touch of that "neon" (fake/old lime or sour mix) flavor. The mezcal old fashioned was really good. There's another cocktail who's name I can't remember which green chartreuse in it, and it just tasted like the base margarita with a hint of green chartreuse added to it. Meh.
Some positives - the service is great and ambiance/decor is really nice. The queso is consistently amazing, and we also tried the uchepo on the second visit, which we'd totally get again! Just not sure we'll be back...
Read moreBeautiful building with amazing decor, the experience stopped here.
Street parking is horrid, was greeted by a somewhat annoyed hostess that looked perplexed as to why we were in front of her. Asked for indoor seating as the chicken factory located directly behind the business puts off a horrendous smell. We were told 20 mins, and we would receive a call when ready. 45 mins later walked up to the still perplexed hostess, when we inquired our name was already crossed off the list as they had given our table away already (strange as there were no lines or people waiting in front) we were seated and she apologized for the error.
Inside the beautiful decor would ordinarily be a delight however the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant made for an uncomfortable experience. The menu was pretty straight forward, we ordered some chips and salsa (most Mexican restaurants typically have this included, im not against paying for chips and salsa but they better be special) the chips were nothing special run of the mill tasted like they were from the store. The salsa was bland and boring one taste and me and the wife looked at each other and asked each other if this was marinara.
Our main course carnitas street tacos, and tostada tinga chicken came out fast, my wife didn't eat her meal as the chicken had a funky taste (could be due to the chicken factory location.) Our waiter who was hard to find during the entire experience (ended up paying someone entirely different as he was never around). I sat with my food in front of me for 5 minutes as I waited to get some "hot salsa" this to had very little heat.
Overall disappointed, had high hopes with the pictures we had seen online, we don't plan...
Read moreWe were passing through town and my boyfriend was in the mood for street tacos and I found this place was close by. We stopped based on the food and good reviews on a Monday afternoon at 1:15. I was so hopeful, but we didn't have a good experience. We were seated promptly, but were waiting about 10 minutes before our order was taken. Took at least another 10 minutes just to get our chips and salsa. Our food came out about 30 minutes after that. Mind you we ordered tacos and a tostada. Well one of our tacos and tostada was missing. 15 minutes later and still no food. After waiting my boyfriend asked for the check and asked to cancel his taco, but I still wanted my tostada. When the check finally came the tostada wasn't listed so they cancelled both items which was super frustrating. We had a long drive ahead of us and were both frustrated and just wanted to leave. We didn't even wait for the waiter to come pick up the check. My boyfriend went straight to the bar to pay. With such an experience I can't recommend this place. The tacos were fine, but I've had better elsewhere. I did enjoy the chips and salsa. The whole restaurant seemed to be having slow service. The couple sitting next to us said they had to get back to work and were still waiting on food. A guy waiting for takeout was waiting over 15 minutes and people that came in after us got their food before us and ate and left before our food came out. I'm not sure why this was and no explanation...
