My mother and her friend, both cultured, and well-traveled women who enjoy good food in a nice atmosphere, came to visit us again. Taking a walk down Main, they asked about MSM, and I said I'd always heard great things about it, but for whatever reason, just hadn't been yet. They had enough seating available, and the weather was nice, so we decided to try it out. We had a younger, clearly new waitress who was trying hard, and doing fine, as a server. My mom decided to order the steak, her friend a chicken dish, and both my son and I were in the mood for burgers. We were told the serving of fries wasn't very big and that we should order our own baskets. No. One order for two would have been plenty. They were overcooked, but we ate them because they tasted fine, and we didn't want to wait for another round, and have our burgers go cold. My mom's steak was cooked as she'd asked- medium ( but on the medium-well side), but it was lukewarm. LUKEWARM. At a place known for their meats. My mom isn't one to complain, but she did so nicely, after we goaded her to. The server asked her what she'd like done. Good question. At her behest, we all began, and continued to eat, while the server went inside to see what could be done. Instead of offering to quickly cook another steak for her, they offered to "put it back on the grill" to warm it up. Really? No, because it was clearly going to get overcooked at that point. My sweet mom ate it cold at that point. We felt so bad for her, seeing as she rarely even orders steak to begin with, and this was her experience at this "great restaurant". Instead of offering to remake the steak, or take it off the bill, or offer her a dessert or something to begin to make it up to her...It just got worse. Some woman, the manager? Head waitress? Comes to the table with the waitress at bill time, and literally hovers over my mother as she's trying to make out the bill, figure out the tip, etc...I mean she is STANDING OVER MY MOM WATCHING HER CLOSELY. We're looking at her like she's crazy, and ask her to give us a minute. She took one step back. What was she doing?? What did she expect to behold? Wow. We didn't want to stiff the waitress, because she was sweet, and clearly just taking cues from her superiors, and we've always been fair, if not generous tippers, so she was taken care of. My mom did go inside to say something just afterwards, but whatever transpired was clearly insufficient. This review is way overdue, and I'm sorry to be writing it. I wanted to call and speak with the management, but as I recall, there is no contact info on their site, and lest I get that awful woman attending to me, decided a review would have to suffice. Oh, and as we left, my son pointed out the couple nearby had ordered fries, and they looked...
Read moreVisited Main Street Meats based on a friend's recommendation for a new spot in Chattanooga. I am sad I've missed out on this gem of a restaurant/bar/butcher shop all this time. I've visited Chattanooga often and never knew about this place, but I can promise it's my new go-to every time I'm in town. I'm hooked
First, I have to commend Seth, our server. He was absolutely engaging, entertaining, energetic, fun. It felt like he never left our table and always went out of his way to ensure we were enjoying our meal, educating us on menu items, suggesting beverages and food options and keeping us updated. He is a world-class server and my friend who recommended this place hasn't had the pleasure of working with Seth but does know who he is from his visits, which tells you how memorable and amazing Seth really is. Owner -- Pleasseeeee make sure Seth is appreciated for all of his efforts every day! He's a good one. When I come back soon, I only want to hang out with Seth for my visit.
The food was delectable. We ordered the charcuterie board with 3 meats/2 cheeses and the rotation of meats and cheeses were phenomenal. Seth explained the flavor palate to us and he wasn't wrong and was spot on with the recommendation. Next we ordered a rib eye and it was cooked incredibly perfectly. We ordered it to split and they served it split between two plates and it was cooked to perfection, presented amazingly well, and tasted absolutely divine.
The cocktails were top-notch, too. The Homegrown is simple, but effective and delicious. the other "built" cocktails appear to rotate with the food menu offerings, but I honestly can say you can't go wrong with any cocktail on the menu depending on if you're a sweet or bitter person -- they've got perfect options (and a full bar) for you.
I will never skip on Main Street Meats on my visits to Chattanooga, period. I highly recommend this place for the service, food, cocktails and atmosphere. I can't wait to come back! Thanks for the...
Read moreSome of the best food I've eaten in Chattanooga, with a comfortable, casual, friendly atmosphere. It's unpretentious, very clean, with indoor and outdoor seating. The restrooms are both family/gender neutral.
It was our first time there so we took the server's rec and had burgers with a side of potato salad. (Note that their sides are family style, so order for the table or plan to take some home.)
The burgers (ordered Medium) were excellent, seared enough to get a bit of crust but still pink and juicy in the middle. Good seasoning and the bacon, gruyere, and "kinda sweet, kinda sour" pickles complemented it perfectly.
But the potato salad was the standout star! We were expecting cold potatoes and mayo, but this was warm and hard to explain. Somehow it evokes the texture and taste of roasted wedges, the creaminess of mashed potato, and the flavors of a loaded baked potato. The pop of mustard seed and crispness of scallion bring it over the top.
We finished with the chocolate chess pie and it lived up to the rest of the meal. The pie itself is creamy and richly chocolate, and it's served with a light chocolate Chantilly cream, a very dark chocolate ganache, and some little crisp candy balls for texture. Each component had a very different chocolate flavor, which all combined perfectly and gave you a few ways to eat it (e.g., "pie + ganache" tasted different from "pie + Chantilly").
We'll definitely be returning. Given the high quality of the food, I find the prices reasonable (for lunch we spent just under $60 for two people including drinks, dessert, and a generous tip), and we really just had...
