My wife and I were looking forward to dining at the Bavarian Inn's Oma Restaurant Christmas Eve to take in the buffet. Earlier that afternoon, I called to make a reservation and was told that I would not need one if I was planning to attend later in the evening. However, upon arrival I was told there was a 30 minute wait. When I let the hostess and dining room manager know about what I was told, and asked if there was something they could do to make things right, there was absolutely no effort or interest in doing anything to make it right.
My wife and I are seniors and I am diabetic. We made our plans based on what we were told earlier that afternoon, and like the COO pointed out in his response to my initial review, there really are no other places to eat during the evening on Christmas Eve in Frankenmuth. This not only inconvenienced my wife and I, but endangered my well-being as a diabetic.
In my frustration, I dropped the F bomb. It wasn’t directed at anyone, just expressed in frustration, and contrary to what the manager told the COO, there were no children within earshot inside the restaurant or in the hallway. The dining room manager told me she'd like me to refrain from vulgarities, which is understandable, but then decided to make an issue of that and kept repeating it, despite the fact that no additional vulgarities were being spoken. I reminded her that it was unnecessary for her to have the last word but she insisted. The hostess intervened and asked if we wanted to be put on the wait list. My wife suggested we just leave because she saw how the manager was provoking an escalation of the situation.
As we were leaving, the manager couldn't resist making one more disparaging remark, which provoked other patrons waiting in line to join in. At that point, angered by her actions, I did drop a few more F Bombs directed at her and one of the other patrons in the hallway who made a verbal threat of harm toward me without knowing how misguided he was about how that would have turned out for him. Did the manager express any concern over that verbal threat? Of course, she did not.
When the COO responded to the initial review, it became clear that the lack of accountability and failure to make things rights begins at the top and trickles its way down. He decided to only focus on my conduct (as misinformed as he was), rather than address the fact that one of the employees gave me bad information about not needing a reservation, and the manager's failure to make any effort to make things right. And, if you read all of the reviews with less than 3 star ratings, you will see that management never makes an effort to make things right, if they respond at all.
Also, he makes reference to a telephone conversation I had with the head manager of the restaurant that night who was actually very helpful. He invited me to return to the restaurant to be seated, but let me know vulgarities would not be tolerated. I let him know that we were not interested in returning to the restaurant after this horrible experience. He then let me know the Ratskeller restaurant was open in the fun center in the basement so my wife and I could find something to eat.
My point is, if you make a mistake at least show some interest in making it right. I look forward to knowing what the COO's response might be to this very last statement, since my undesirable conduct would never have taken place had the manager simple shown some interest in making their mistake right. It's still not too late to make an effort to make...
Read moreThis was a bit hard to review as a full five stars but our waitress today provided such excellent service, she pulled the rating up. My honest overall would be 4.5 with the following reasons: On the positive side, the food that I ate was overall just good, any complaints I would have, would be personal preference and no fault on the Chef. Service was also great, friendly and well trained staff did a great job (especially today :)). Atmosphere is also lovely, I loved the pictures and astatic of the dining room.
My own personal opinion/offerings of improvement from least to most:
Overall, these are nitpicks and the restaurant was enjoyable to eat at whenever we did. We look forward to coming back...
Read moreI spent a little over $60 for chicken and schnitzel dinner and my daughter had pizza. I had coffee and she had soft drink. We went on Dec 26th. It was evening our first day. We arrived at hotel about 6pm and ate about 730pm. I asked for breast. Received a 2x2 square. All bone. And a little darkish meat. I called the waitress and said i asked for breast she said it was a breast. At 72 years old this was no breast i have ever seen. I ate the schnitzel which tasted old it was Luke warm and not crisp. The potatoe dumplings were .50 sized Luke warm circles. The sauerkraut was the only good thing. So upset over the big build up on frankenmuth chicken I asked to have it replaced. I received our bill at that time she brought the replacement and was charged 6.95 for the additional square so I had her take both squares back. Paid my bill. Gave her 20% tip. Should have asked for a manager but I was so disappointed and tired we just left. We were very hungry from a 4 hour drive and looking forward to a great German food experience. We will never go back. Our remaining two days were met with great food experiences at other establishments. Sorry. No stars for Oma if no star was offered. The pizza was not great per my daughter. The restaurant was on the empty side and the waitress said they had a short staff. I told her her outfit was adorable. Curious .... can you show me a picture of what your chicken breast looks like. I am positive that what I was served was...
