Absolutely the most horrible experience I have ever had at a business. Not once but twice I experienced this bad service. The first time I thought it could be an isolated incident, so to be fair I went back to give Schlotzsky's at 8310 Razorback Rd in Colorado Springs, a second chance. I was so wrong, my second visit was worse than the previous visit. I couldn't believe that the terrible service I received was from the owner's son (Joe). Here's what happened: I walked in at around 11:45am to pick up lunch to take back to my office. I was the only one in line at the register, I placed my order with a pleasant young man who was very courteous, I ordered a sandwich & a salad. I asked the young man if he could please substitute the meat on my sandwich from ham to chicken which he did without any hesitation. The food prep area, about 4-5 feet from the front counter, was being manned by Joe & another guy. Remember I was the only customer at that time waiting to pick up my order, after about 5 minutes, one of the two food prep guys called my name that my order was ready, as I picked up the bag I glanced in only to see that my sandwich wasn't there. So I said to the guy that handed my bag: "excuse me sir, I'm missing the sandwich", to which he replied, without looking up, by waiving his arm in my direction which I took to mean hold on?!?!? I guess. Somewhat confused, I stood at the pickup counter waiting for someone to acknowledge me only to see Joe (the owner's son) call the young man that took my order and started (reaming him a new one) going on about how chicken meat is $1.00 more than ham and how by not charging the additional buck is going to affect his future review & raise!! Also, that if the ( Fu#@&!) Customer refuse to pay the extra dollar to throw them the fu#@ out, and on and on. That poor kid didn't even know what hit him and I was standing there in shock about what was going on. I couldn't believe what was happening. I was never told or was I asked to pay the extra dollar, which I would have gladly done so, after all they are running a business not a charity. So here's this idiot (Joe) who's supposed to lead by example, forgot that proper training of his employees is one of the most important aspects of running a successful business. Instead, he decided to be passive agresive towards me, the customer, act in a very unprofessional way towards his employee all because the employee that was helping me DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS SUPPOSED TO CHARGE ME AN ADDITIONAL $1.00. which again I would've happily paid. Side note, I gave the guy that had helped me, the $1.00 his boss was having a fit over. By then my sandwich was ready, so I left vowing to never return for a simple reason, that anyone of the like of this idiot Joe, that is so frustrated at his own inability to train his employees on what is expected of them, doesn't deserve...
Read moreMy mother-in-law came home from the hospital today after having surgery. On the way home she wanted to stop by Schlotzsky’s and get a sandwich. They went through the drive through (it was around noonish when they were there)she ordered the classic with only lettuce, mayo and mustard, and a pastrami on rye with extra Swiss, her friend order a few sandwiches as well. When they got to the house, we helped mom inside and she got ready to eat her sandwich opened it up and it had all sorts of veggies on it (not what she had ordered at all), so we opened up the pastrami no extra Swiss. She said she would call them, as at that point her friend was gone with the bag that had the other sandwiches and the receipt. I offered to go back to Schlotzsky’s to get the correct sandwiches. It was close to 5:30 by the time I got back to the store to get the correct food. We went through the drive through before I could say anything I had someone asking me if I wanted to add a fresh cinnamon roll to my order. Now that sounds delicious but if I was there to place an order that would drive me nuts, how about saying hello instead of trying to up sell me. I tried explaining the situation to the person taking the order he told to drive to the window, which is much better than trying to explain to a speaker box. After I explained the situation he said “Well since you don’t have the receipt why don’t you go get your mother-in-law and bring her here then we will re-make her order” I was horrified I just got done telling him that we had just brought her home from the hospital after having surgery. I again said she just got home from the hospital after having surgery, which is why I was here trying to get her order fixed and not her. He seemed more annoyed than anything, and tells me sorry but there’s nothing he could do. At that point I got a little upset and stated that they had screwed her order up, she had called, and now they were not going to re-make her food.. At that point he excused himself, he came back in a very short amount of time and said that the owner had said that we needed a receipt and then they would re-make her food, until than sorry about our screw-up. So at the owners instructions they would not fix their mistake and we are just going to have to eat the cost of the 2 sandwiches. If it was my order I would be annoyed but I’ll survive, this is for my mother-in-law who just had surgery and wanted a special treat. It’s not like the situation was not know to them as I explained it to them several times, now maybe the employee didn’t explain the full situation to the owner, or if he even called the owner, but all in all bad form Schlotzsky’s very...
Read moreI have been to all three locations in the Springs many times, but I am giving this one a review because I like it the best. The Garden of the Gods location is pretty good too, and I have been to the North Academy locations 3-4 times and have never liked the food they put out. It's a shame because the North Academy location is the only one open at 7am, but the food always comes out there tasting weird and not as fresh as the other two locations.
Considering this is more of a "fast food" type restaurant, the food is very solid. The best item this chain produces is the bread (pizza / calzone crust & sandwich buns). The overall pizza is just ok or slightly above average, however..if you are looking for an amazing pizza then go to a pizza shop. Considering this place is not a pizza place, the pizza isn't bad though.
The pastrami reuben with a sourdough bun isn't bad either; I have had a lot of pastrami from "real" restaurants that are way better but for fast food this sandwich isn't too shabby.
I prefer the beef bacon smokecheesey sandwich to the pastrami reuben..it has a more mellow flavor than the pastrami reuben and all the flavors blend together and support each other better. The pastrami and thousand island are both super strong and contrasting; the pastrami reuben is still pretty decent but in comparison I'll take the beef bacon smokecheesey every time.
The Italian calzone is ok although the French dip is the best in my opinion. The marinara that comes with the Italian calzone is nothing special..it was too sweet for me. The crust is really soft, though, which I appreciated.
The Cinnabon items are decent, although they tend to be a little dry. I eat at a lot of bakeries and shops that specialize in confectionary items though, so the average person might be more impressed with it than the few times I have had their...
