About the only other place I've eaten locally that serves this delicious a hamburger was Granger's Sandwich Shop, and they've been closed for over thirty years. Man! What a delicious burger!
I'm on a proto-paleo diet. It's ketogenic and generally excludes anything man-made, like bread or cheese or salad dressing. So I was leery of having a hamburger because such fare typically includes a bun, cheese, pickles, special sauce, and so forth. I decided that this once I would hop off of the wagon and indulge in some decadent man-made fare.
Their menu, like that of most quality sandwich shops, is quite limited. They have a lineup of perhaps half a dozen sandwiches, some with grass-fed beef, some with cage-free turkey, one with organic chicken, and one with pole-caught Alaskan cod. They also offer a variety of salads, mostly built around Romaine lettuce, organic spinach, and other salad staples. You can order any of those with one of three dressings: Classic Caesar, Buttermilk Ranch, or Lemon-Basil Vinaigrette. Only the vinaigrette is natural enough for me. Those who wish to fill up on side dishes might enjoy French fries or onion rings, or a bit of both. As for beverages, they offer two kinds of lemonade, an organic-brewed ice tea, Craft Batch Soda, Mexican Coke, or spring water. They also offer local craft beers and house wine. Except for the water and alcohol, all beverages are sweetened with cane sugar. For dessert, they offer a malted milk shake or a root-beer float. I chose the Lounge Burger. For an additional two bucks, they will add uncured bacon or organic avocado or both to anything on their menu. I took them up on that offer. Hoping not to stray too far beyond the pale of my diet, I decided to forgo any other offerings.
Mea maxima culpa! The main thing here is the grass-fed beef. It has a tang to it that many people will not like. Sucks for them. In addition, you have your choice of American or Cheddar cheese. I chose the Cheddar because American technically isn't cheese; it's "American-process cheese food", a variety of plastic somewhere between polycarbonate and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. The Cheddar that Burger Lounge uses is sharp, which pleases my palate. They round out the Lounge with thick slices of iceberg lettuce, onion and beefsteak tomato, dill pickle, and 1,000-island dressing.
This burger has got to be eaten to be believed! It was kind of small for the eight-dollar price--about four inches across and as many high--but the flavor was huge. After taking a bite of this baby, I did something that I do only rarely: I slowed down my chewing and savored the flavor. Mmmm! I found myself sucking the juice out of each bite and letting it rest on my tongue for a few exhilarating seconds longer. Then I thoughtfully chewed and swallowed, then waited a while before taking my next bite. It was that good.
As sugar has been permanently excised from my diet, and alcohol is too decadent a carb for me to even consider, and because I cannot have any sort of stimulant for health reasons, I chose the water. I'm glad that I did. The taste of any other beverage would undoubtedly have detracted from the outstanding flavor of my sandwich. I will definitely be returning to Burger Lounge, just as soon as I lose a few more pounds. And I heartily recommend it to anyone else who enjoys--or thinks that s/he would enjoy--a painstakingly crafted sandwich comprising only the best ingredients that...
Read moreThere was one woman there who was nice. I think she may have been the manager. She was a sweetheart. It was chilly so we asked if the door could be closed and she immediately came out and was very nice about closing it and complimentary towards my family and me. Now here's why I hated the restaurant itself. 1. There isn't much seating. There was only one open booth and it was dirty, so I cleaned it off. No one offered to help or tried to take over that job but as I was moving glasses and silverware from the table someone was coming and collecting the items as I put them on another table 🤔. 2. They have high chairs for babies which was surprising because they don't have children's cups or a kids menu at all. Yet their description calls it a family friendly dining place. 3. The menu is very limited and the prices are sky high. A chicken salad would've cost me 14 dollars. 4. The rest of the staff were rude. They gave us dirty looks and I had the distinct feeling we were being talked about. 5. The burger meat is not good. I had high expectations I suppose, and what I got was bland meat overloaded with toppings. I didn't even finish the 8 dollar burger. 6. The fries are under seasoned too... I think that's it. Oh, at the end of our dining experience a guy went and reopened the door to clean up the outside and he didn't close the door back so for the last 5-10 mins of our dining experience we were again cold. That's part of the reason we left pretty hastily....
Read moreI live in Coronado and if you live there, or frequent there- sometimes it is hard to get some good food if it is getting late. So, it was 8:30pm and I was craving a burger. Some other establishments in the area that were recommended to me to get a burger at, which we will call Voldemort, because out of respect, they shall not be named, stopped serving food at 8:00pm. So, I said, well, let's get a burger at Burger Lounge, I've never been. And it was really really good! (It might have been so delicious cause I was craving a burger too.. but... it was a GOOD burger.)
I guess sometimes this place can get pretty busy, but we had our pick of seats. The staff was friendly and upbeat, and you could tell it wasn't fake, they actually liked working there, which was nice to see. We had a gentleman refill our water for us at our table, so it was this mix of a sit-down place and a walk up order to go burger place, which was actually very cool.
So, if you are craving a burger- check out the lounge! We order a side of frings, and they were only ok, but they are a side option. That is the only reason it isn't 5 stars, didn't love the sides. They also had options for salads and such too, and apparently some homemade rootbeers or something that my boyfriend spotted that we havne't been back yet to try. I think if we explore more on the menu next time, 5 stars...
