Gelato Paradiso — Restaurant in Coronado

This is the first time that I have felt the need to post a review. I come to this place often, and have never had an issue until last night. My friend and I walked into the store at 8:50pm on 10/03/24, while the door was open. There were two people who were working: one young woman in her 20s, and another man in his 30s who had a beard and a French mustache. The man blatantly ignored us asking for samples and kept trying to rush us into ordering. After asking for the third time he gave my friend a sample of lemon ice cream and pistachio in the same sample stick so that it would save time which goes against their safety standards at the risk of cross contamination. Afterwards he put one flavor and when we were about to tell him the second one, he immediately shoved the ice cream into our face and tried to move on to the next order. His coworker, the women even had to apologize for his behavior to us quietly so that he wouldn't hear. I hope management takes this employee's attitude into account, and gives an end to his job. (Edit after response from owner: Thank you for minimizing the experience I had at your place of business. You’ve confirmed my opinions about your store. Anyone reading this review, please read their response. (I have it screen shotted so don’t bother taking it down) You might be right that the situation was not race based but you have proven to be extremely unprofessional. I have already convinced my friends (who recommended this store) not to support you anymore and I will continue to tell people who I know never to go here. Good job responding to customers who have critiques of you’re business)

Really bad server experience. Was waiting in line to order and when our turn approached the cashier helped the white girl that cut the line. When my friend wanted to say something about it he was told to “hold on” in a very aggressive way. Also didn’t look too good cause we were the only non white people there and the people before us (white) we’re treated very nicely. Ugh it's a tough one. I thought about giving it three stars but since I ended up tossing half of my cone in the trash because it wasn't worth eating, it's two stars.

Flavor: very subtle. I could barely tell the difference between tiramisu, pistachio and pumpkin that were in my cone. Visually they look really good and pistachio is my favorite flavor so I didn't feel the need to try tiny scoops before making a purchase. Bluntly put, it's very very bland. The waffle cone was under baked.

Service: I was served quickly and with a smile - great. My partner's cone took the guy a long time to put together and the three flavors were all smeared into each other. He didn't end up tipping and he's very pro-service.
