This is the place you want to go when you want personalized service. The meals we ordered included the braised short ribs (special), the crab stuffed salmon (special), the ahi-ahi and schnitzel (??). My family was welcomed towards the end of closing. We did not notice that the restaurant was closing in 15-20 minutes. I tend not to want to be the 'one' that holds up everyone leaving work and I feel/have felt from prior dining experience that everyone and everything is rushed. That was not the case here. I asked the waiter if they were closing we could just leave because I know how it works. There were other patrons in the restaurant and he assured me it was fine. He was correct. He was kind to my family as we were also staying at the hotel (also very friendly... for years now). Now the food. I can recommend everything we ordered as we each shared samples from one another. The braised short ribs were tender with a reduced sauce that was excellent. The beef was top notch served with asparagus and carrots (my plate). All tender but not mushy. The crab stuffed salmon was unique. They successfully combined the crab with salmon. From my bite, I could taste the firm but not dry salmon with the sweetness of crab. The ahi had a sauce that had lemon tartness but that could have been the capers. Also very good. The bite of the schnitzel was great. It was a breaded veal that was tender and packing flavor from the breading and sauce. My whole family loved their meals and the French onion soup (I like to try different dishes but I'll probably order the French onion again because it was excellent). All the different meals were obviously cooked in house and with love (I don't know how else to put it). The waiter talked with us about how he has worked here for 18 years. The downsides of covid and the local economy. Basically I'm trying to describe the excellent meal combined with the welcoming staff (the waiter) and how that made me feel welcomed. You can't go wrong when you're feeling like family with a waiter who service was excellent and the food was top notch. Sorry for the...
Read moreA STELLAR BIRTHDAY DINNER CELEBRATION: Many of the reviews I read for Crown Bistro are for their 5-star breakfasts, so I wanted to share our amazing special occasion dinner experience at this lovely gem of a restaurant with the most wonderful owners and staff. They truly could not have done more to help us make my mom feel important and loved on her 80th birthday. We began looking a few months in advance at a few places for an outdoor dinner venue to host a group of 12 staying from out of town for a birthday weekend celebration on Coronado. Bluewater Boathoase would not reserve us an outdoor table, even 3 months in advance, unless we committed to their full private outdoor event space with a $3000 minimum…for 12 people. The Henry didn’t follow up as promised with emails despite 3 phone calls. Crown Bistro owner Laura and her daughter, Jamie, on the other hand, gladly held their quiet and festive interior courtyard for us, Laura emailed promptly and regularly to help with menu and celebration suggestions. They were accommodating and flexible in every way…plus warm and kind. They didn’t blink when unfortunate circumstances dropped the group size from 12 to 8. The night of the dinner, we arrived to find the table unexpectedly decorated with adorable and fun party decorations. We had the most attentive, polished, and, again, warm and kind service from Jorge, Theresa, and Juliana. Oh, the food! From their bruschetta to steak au poivre to mahi mahi picatta to a Jerusalem artichoke chicken, everyone loved their food, both delicious and beautifully plated. I don’t think I’ve ever been to any other restaurant anywhere in all my years of dining that went so out of their way to make a night perfect. Come to Crown Bistro for dinner. Plan your special event with them. You won’t be sorry. Thank you to the whole team. We...
Read moreRUDEST AND MOST EMBARRASSING EXPERIENCE. If they mess up your order don’t say ANYTHING, manager will kick you out.
The was my first time having breakfast at crown bistro. We sat outside because it was such a beautiful day. I ordered the eggs Benedict, which was recommended and my gf ordered some sides, eggs dry, avocado, and toast and I asked to get my eggs soft poach. When our order arrived, my gf noticed a lot oil or butter on the eggs. She asked the waitress about the eggs, and she then informed us that they have to put oil or butter in the eggs, but didn’t let us know when she ordered. I then started to eat my eggs Benedict, eggs were hard poached almost like hard boiled egg. I informed the waitress and she said sorry I’ll take care of it. Then within a minute the manager comes out and ask us to leave. We were startled, not sure what to do or if this was a joke. I then went to talk to the manager to see what was going on. He told me that we needed to leave because they can’t make our order correct. I told him our order and that we didn’t get what we ordered, he then told me to go home and cook my own eggs if I didn’t like the eggs they cooked us in a very rude manner. I then said I wanted to talk to the owner and he said he was the owner. With that kind of service they will not last long. This was the worst experience, there are tons of places I can take my business to and now this is not one of them and I hope people see this and decide they don’t want to be treated in this manner and give their business to another establishment. I hope the real owner see...
