This review comes with a caveat: Our party of 5 visited Wicked Butcher with 6:15 reservations on a Saturday night for Dallas Restaurant Week, so we had a limited menu to choose from though several of us did order additionally off of the main menu.
TLDR: The food and drinks were delicious and the waitstaff is incredible. There were a few hiccups, and the restaurant can get very loud, but I will go again and recommend it to others.
There was a delay with the valet, so we were about 10-15 minutes late actually getting into the restaurant, but I had let them know that we were there. The reservation desk was aware of the backup and were gracious about going ahead and checking us in and assuring us that there would no problems getting us seated once the issue was resolved.
We were sat at one of several long rectangular tables in the middle of the restaurant while there were booths lining one wall and bench seating with chairs on the other. At times it got very loud, and it was difficult to hear and speak with the person next to you. I think the booths wouldn’t experience the noise quite as much as the middle tables.
Once seated we were offered complimentary champagne – which turned out to be very nice – and later we received a complimentary amuse bouche. The table bread was a light and airy popover.
Drinks: I ordered a vodka martini which was made perfectly. My friend asked if they had a chocolate martini and was told yes, but what she received was definitely not a chocolate martini. Whatever the drink was (not a martini), the only hint of chocolate was a dusting around the rim. Everyone else enjoyed the drinks that they ordered.
Appetizer: I ordered the Beef Carpaccio, and it was fantastic. The beef was sliced paper thin and melted in the mouth, the truffles were subtle, and the garlic breadcrumbs added a perfect bit of texture. The Hamachi Crudo was also delicious with sweet and delicate fish complimented by Thai chili and orange ponzu. The only misses were a Chilled White Gazpacho, which was found to be bland and not remotely similar to what we’d consider a gazpacho, and the Lobster Bisque was disappointingly not available that evening.
Entrée: I ordered the Filet Mignon, which came with mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts, and also the Corn Crème Brulée and Truffle Butter sauce off the regular menu. I shared the Corn Crème Brulée with others and it was a favorite for us all. The Surf and Turf and the Ginger Miso Seabass were also ordered, and everything was cooked perfectly and deemed to be delicious.
Dessert: The Chocolate Tart was ordered by almost everyone. It’s luscious, rich and decadent with crushed hazelnuts and a peanut butter mousse. Though it could have used something to cut through the richness, it was delicious and everyone ate every last bite. One person ordered the Mango Lavender Crème Brulee, which was a very good crème brulee, but the mango was just diced on top and we couldn’t really taste the lavender.
Ambiance: The waitstaff is excellent. They were attentive without being overbearing. As a whole the various staff worked together seamlessly creating a relaxed atmosphere. The noise was a bit of an issue – annoying but not unbearable. Looking around, it seemed like everyone was having a good time, enjoying the food and drinks and it felt quite celebratory. Not someplace where everything is hushed and you can hear the tinkling of crystal and the scrape of silverware – at least not...
Read moreUPDATE As can be read below, the owner of Wicked Butcher asked us to email to “make it right” so we did and then…crickets no answer to the email, just the look here on Google of trying to make up for it. Guess y’all didn’t mean it, but it’s amusing that we continue to receive neglectful service from this establishment, even when we’re not there! lol
I’m sorry to say we had a really disappointing experience at Wicked Butcher in Dallas tonight. We had a reservation and still had to wait nearly 20 minutes after our check in. We saw other parties come in after us and get seated, so we’re not sure what happened there. Once we were seated it took another 20 minutes for a server to come speak with us. She informed us we needed to order our entire meal (starters, entrees, sides) right then even though we hadn’t yet ordered drinks. One of our party ordered a drink and the others needed more time so the server said she would be back to take the rest of the drink orders. We waited ANOTHER twenty minutes for the single ordered drink to come and the server said the bar was really backed up, which is somewhat understandable but also, my goodness we’d been there for nearly an hour and only received one drink. The rest of our party went ahead and ordered drinks and I stopped counting how long we waited for those drinks because of how frustrating this experience was becoming. When those drinks finally arrived the server apologized for forgetting to put in the drink order with the bartender! By this point we were starving and asked if we could please have some of the bread we saw being served to other tables. I don’t know if it’s common practice at this restaurant to have to ask for the bread service, but this is doubtful since we saw bread being served to many other tables. Our food was decent once it arrived, but was difficult to fully enjoy because of how annoyed we were by this point. As a result we had over half our meal left to take home. I kid you not, we waited thirty minutes this time for anyone to notice our table was done, and it wasn’t our server, it was another server who finally brought us our bill because one of our party went to the bar to ask if we could please get the check. The server who brought our check wouldn’t take our cards or pack up our leftovers because she said our server would come do that. Well, guess what? We waited another long length of time for that to happen. The most disappointing part about all this waiting is that we ended up missing our reservation to the next place we planned to go for dessert. We read a great write up about Wicked Butcher being one of America’s best new restaurants, so we drove down from Denton hoping for a great meal and great venue to celebrate some recent good news in our lives. Instead we ended up spending the entire night at an okay restaurant being mostly ignored. Next time we’ll just stay in Denton and go to Tim Love’s Queenies. At least at a Love establishment we know the service will be impeccable and we surely won’t be forgotten and ignored. So...

I came for the Beef Wellington. I love, love, love Beef Wellington and I like my steaks cooked medium. We live in Austin and there are no restaurants there with it on the menu, so while visiting Dallas I made sure to find restaurants that serve it. We had tried another well known place the night before we came to wicked butcher and that place would not entertain cooking it medium. I understand that Beef Wellington is a difficult dish to make, and they prep it earlier in the day, but they did not even offer any solutions or other ideas like I have experienced at other restaurants when presented with this challenge. Just full stop, no. I was so disappointed. Since they would not cook a Wellington medium, I ordered the regular filet medium, and it came out rare. Ugh. Overall, it was a very disappointing dining experience, especially for the pice, and I still had not gotten my Beef Wellington. So I called Wicked Butcher the next day and asked the chef about cooking their Wellington medium and they said come on in, we can make this happen. And they did! They were so happy to accommodate me. The pride in service was evident! We received a complimentary sparkling wine, a fried arancini ball amuse-bouche that was delicious and warm popovers with onion ash butter. All of these little touches made a great impression, as did our servicer Katerina. As for the beef Wellington, it was delicious. They explained they needed to initially present it to me cooked medium rare as it’s already prepared with the puff pastry around it and cooking it longer would burn the pastry. Once I cut into it, I can send it back and have it cooked more. We all agreed and understood that’s what would happen, and it resulted in a delicious dish cooked exactly how I wanted it. My husband got a Cesar salad that was excellent and the regular filet was also great. He wanted the lobster bisque but they didn’t have it. We ordered Mac and cheese and creamed spinach. The Mac and cheese was just ok for me. Not a home run but not bad. But honestly I didn’t need it anyways. I was so happy with my beef welly, I filled up on that! After all of this already amazing service, they sent us home with a complimentary parting gift. This place really delivered on service and food and it’s so cute with great decor and a great vibe. We will definitely be back on our next...
