Not what it used to be!
Upon entering we stood at the hostess desk for several minutes before anyone approached. We were seated and the hostess returned with cutlery which she dropped on the seat cushion. I picked it up and placed it on the edge of the table, she never returned with a replacement. We weren't even fully seated when the waiter approached and asked to take our drink order. This part of the service was very prompt, however when asked what Craft beers were on draft we were given a confused look along with an answer that consisted of Blue Moon/Sam Adams, neither of which are craft beers. After we looked over the actual beer list which is pretty unimpressive for an establishment that calls itself "ALE HOUSE", the waiter returned and took our drink order. As I am reaching for the menus that are kept table side, the waiter asks if we a ready to place a food order. Clearly we are not!
The waiter comes back after a few minutes and takes our order. We decided to try the steak/shrimp chimichurri weekend special along with a zinger salad. I have fond memories of the zinger salad as I used frequent the Jacksonville Ale House on a weekly basis 15 years ago. However, the current state of the zinger salad does not resemble what I remember. The zingers are now the size of your finger, about 1/4 the size of what they previously were.
Upon receiving the food, we notice that not a single cutlery item is clean! Each fork and knife had food debris and/or stains on them. The waiter was asked to bring more, which of the 2 place settings, 1 knife still had residual food debris on it.
The steak/shrimp came out and the steak was very pink and bloody when it was ordered to be Med-Well. It was closer to Med-Rare and had to be sent back. Prior to cutting the steak and discovering the wrong temperature, several shrimp were eaten. Upon the steak being returned (same steak, not remade) more shrimp were added, however these new shrimp were not edible and had a very off putting flavor. The chimichurri sauce tasted like it came from a jar and was in no way freshly made.
The server was notified of these issues and made no attempt to apologize or even send a manager over. I can't say that I will ever be back to any Ale House in the future. I only wish that I would have recognized the signs prior to being seated. Before we decided to stop at the Ale House we drove through the parking lot of Twin Peaks and Flanagan's which had no available parking spots and crowds of people waiting outside. There were several empty spots at the Ale House and no one outside which I now realize was a clear indication of the service/food inside.
Please don't bother with a standard auto response of "Please see our feedback webpage so we can make the right".. If you really wanted to "make this right" you would respond in any other way. Auto responses such as those are clear indications that this restaurant chain has become nothing more than a corporate clone who puts the cost savings of their standardized supply chain in front of the consumers ever...
Read moreOverall, good food, good service, good prices, Management leaves A LOT to be desired. We (3) like to go for Ribs, Fish & Chips, and love the Osso Bucco. Well, after a short hiatus we went yesterday for lunch (3:00ish) and followed with a return trip today for the Friday Fish & Chips Lunch Special at 3pmish. Today we added two more adult guests and one 3yr.old toddler to our party. As lunch was served there was a question and discrepancy with the ordered lunches. We all (5) ordered the Fish and Chips. The Manager was beckoned to our table as we were missing the coleslaws and each plate was one piece of fish shy of yesterday's plates. The Manager began to explain that all fish are not the same size when caught and so the portions are different for the "specials". WHAT? I had prefaced my question with, "I understand that probably the number of fish tenders differed on the "special portion". However, we really missed the condiment size Coleslaws." Vince, the manager, went on, "no one has ever complained before and Coleslaw was not a regular on the Lunch Special." He further explained how the Fish entree ordered yesterday has 10ozs. of fish and the Lunch Special plate today has 5ozs. of fish. I got a tad offensive to his "haughty, not so customer-service-minded attitude." As I with Menu and Specials Insert in hand pointed out, "nowhere is there any difference in the Fish & Chips descriptions. So was he actually telling me that one one-ounce cup of Coleslaw and one "tender" of fish mandated the $5.price difference per plate? I continued, perhaps it would have been easier to explain to customers that 4 tenders of fish were the normal portion and the 2 tenders of fish made the five ounce weight difference on a "special" portion instead of just cutting the 1piece off the "plates"? Thus, perhaps one "Manager-titled" person could, in the interest of "good customer service", simply throw in the Coleslaws as a nice gesture to shut down any further discussion and actually answer my original inquiry? No sir, not Vince, he asked, "I suppose the little boy wants his Coleslaw too?" I retorted, "Yes you can bring two Coleslaws, as the others at the table were now finished with their plates. I then stated , "he did not have to possibly think there would be any reason for us to request he bring us anything again at HIS Establishment!" We asked for our check from our waiter, a very pleasant server, and gathered our things and left....ner to return again. Not to Miller's DAVIE Ale House again. Not even for the "out-of-this-world Osso Bucco", I am sorry to say. POOR MANAGEMENT to be in...
Read moreThis is a sports bar and restaurant, so it's loaded with flat screens and comes with the expected sports atmosphere of some noise which is exactly as it should be. It's not so loud that you can't hold a conversation at your table. We saw a mix of families, some couples, groups of sports buddies and mixed groups of friends. It's a nice place overall and the atmosphere has a lot of positive energy. It's not quiet and demure, but as I said, there were a few dates happening and everyone seemed to be happy. I got the feeling that a lot of the patrons are regulars. There was a certain amount of camaraderie.
This chain restaurant is located in a large shopping complex that is loaded with a lot of other restaurants, ALL of which we're busy. It was a Saturday night. We ended up here, due to an unexpected hour wait at our first choice. So, we implemented a backup plan. I wasn't about to wait an hour, especially with so many other choices in the immediate vicinity and I vwas hungry. I didn't want to get to that evil personal space where I get "Hangry". It was essential that I bet something in my stomach.
This was a large, open space divided by a very large bar suitable for drinks and dining. Another area is set up as a main dining room where they have a mixture of high tops and regular seating. The place is clean and kept well. It's comfortable...
As for food, there's everything from pub grub to full meals available. It's pretty basic. There's nothing overly fancy. They stick to the basics and do what they do well. The full menu is available online. I had a burger and it was properly cooked to my liking. So many places give you well done, despite asking for medium rare. I'm all about a good burger and this one was pretty good. Prices are modest; it's easily affordable and there are plenty of choices. My friends had salmon. Beer and wine are offered along with mixed drinks, but I was going to be driving, so I skipped the alcohol.
Our waiter, despite being busy, stayed on top of everything, He got the order right, he was friendly, attentive, efficient, energetic and pleasant. Service with a mile is always appreciated.
As chains go, this location was pretty nice. Admittedly, I have no other location to compare this to. I don't know that I will go again since it's not in my general sphere of travel. It was convenient this time because I attended an event that was nearby. I would not normally be in this area. I enjoyed my visit though and will keep this spot in mind if I find myself in...
