One of the things that this place got right was the design and feel of the restaurant. Poke Ramen has a nice atmosphere with a good location and parking lot. It was a little crowded, but the line moved quickly and the staff was friendly. We ordered a #1 (pork ramen), a #4 (chicken ramen), and a side of “KFC” - Korean Fried Chicken with 2 waters. The bill was around $45, which was surprising, but I was excited about trying the new place in town.
The first ramen bowl arrived about 15 min later (fairly fast, considering how crowded the place was). The waitress asked us if we had ordered anything else and we told her the rest of our order. She brought the second bowl about 5 min later, and again, asked us if that was our order. We told her we were missing the KFC. We were not impressed with the bowls. They are not the best, but they are not the worst. I would say 3/5.
The chicken was brought to us about 15 minutes later. Unfortunately for me, the Korean fried chicken was too spicy. Normally, I don’t expect food to be very spicy, unless it is indicated on the menu. I’m not an expert on KFC, so there is a possibility that I just don’t know what it is, and that it is normally spicy.
After one bite, I asked the waitress If our order was right, to which she replied that that is the way they serve it. I told her that I didn’t know that, and that I would not be eating it. She apologized and walked away. I don’t think she was rude, though, I just think she had many more customers to tend to. She came back about 5 minutes later and saw that the plate was barely touched and offered a box to take home because “someone else might like it”.
I’m really torn here. I know that they have been working hard to make this project happen, but in my case, I feel like customer satisfaction was not prioritized. I may be spoiled by thinking that I deserved my plate to be changed, but after paying what I consider a premium on a fast-food restaurant, I felt like that was the right thing to offer. Note that I never asked to change anything, I just said I was not going to eat it.
If I go again, I would try the poke bowls which looked appetizing. But there are more restaurants I would like to try before coming back...
Read moreHaving savored ramen in renowned spots around the world, including the incomparable ramen havens of Tokyo, our expectations for ramen outside of Japan have always been cautiously optimistic. Our visit to Poke Ramen in Davie, FL, was a journey filled with pleasant surprises, showcasing a remarkable effort to deliver authentic ramen experiences.
I chose the Curry Tonkotsu Ramen with Pork, intrigued by the fusion of flavors, and was greeted with a dish that was hearty, rich, and satisfying. The pork was tender, melding beautifully with the spicy, creamy broth. My girlfriend’s Spicy Miso Chicken Ramen offered a delightful heat that was bold yet didn’t overshadow the complexity of the miso. Both dishes left us pleasantly full, a testament to their generosity and quality.
While it's challenging to compare any ramen with those in Tokyo, as the essence of ramen in Japan is steeped in tradition and unparalleled craftsmanship, Poke Ramen impressively stands its ground. It provides an enjoyable and authentic ramen experience that's rare to find so far from Japan’s shores.
It's worth noting that Poke Ramen has earned its accolades, including being Yelp’s #1 spot for Ramen in Florida and ranking 11th on Yelp’s Top 25 Ramen spots in the US in 2023. These honors are well-deserved, reflecting the restaurant's dedication to quality and flavor.
While we hold our ramen experiences in Tokyo in high regard, Poke Ramen has carved out its own niche, offering dishes that resonate with the heart and soul of traditional ramen while adapting to its Floridian context. This visit has been a highlight in our culinary adventures, and we’re eager to return.
For fellow ramen enthusiasts, Poke Ramen in Davie is a must-visit. It’s a place where the love for ramen shines through in every bowl, reminding us of the universal appeal of this...
Read moreYeah I’m not ever coming here again. I came here with my 5 year old son to treat him because he’s been doing so well in school. He then had to use the bathroom, so we get up and go to the bathroom. We were gone for about 3 minutes. Mind you, we are NOT done with our drinks and food. I even had half of my sushi burrito still wrapped up to save for later. We both got ramen. When we came back to the table, the food was GONE. I went and told them that they threw away our food and they got my son another ramen and got me another sushi burrito. Fine. Then the audacity of the woman making the poke bowls she had the nerve to argue back and forth with me saying that they have to throw it away if no one is sitting at the table. I would think they would put a certain time limit on it!! We were gone for 3 minutes! No indications that the food was done. So beware, if you gotta use the bathroom and you are by yourself or with a child that you have to take to the bathroom, they will trash your food. I paid over $60 and the woman thinks I’m not supposed to say anything? She argued with me back and forth. What the hell are you gonna do it you gotta take your child to the bathroom?? And it’s just the two of you? She and the other woman needed to mind their business and just make the sushi burrito for me. Not coming back here again all because the woman argued about me telling me I was wrong for getting up and taking my son to...
