One of the better lunch options for the price near downtown. I eat here semi regularly when I'm in my office. It gets super busy and when ordering online, there is rarely someone ready to grab your order when you arrive because they're helping a long line of customers who walked in.
Edit: went there today after ordering and paying online. Said it would be ready in 25 minutes, a meeting went late and I arrived 35 minutes after my order, which was definitely ready. Line was long so I let the single employee working the line get through a few customers before I caught his attention and said "I had an online order for Scott" to which this employee snapped back saying "you need to give me a few minutes, there's a line". He was pretty angry with me right off the bat.
Incredibly rude, but the place was busy so I said ok and sat on a stool and played on my phone for 5 minutes until he could grab my order.
When he finally grabbed it he tossed it rudely on the counter, looked me in the eye and said "wait in line next time" and walked away. I kind of yelled back "why do you offer online ordering?". They had 40 minutes between my order and me getting my food. Is that too demanding for you sir?
Also of note, when you order online they grab what you ordered and keep the pizza in the oven. My piece was way overcooked and the crust was tough, I could only eat half of it.
I get this guy was understaffed but man, blame whoever made the schedule or whoever called out sick. I've worked in food service for years of my life and I can't imagine why this guy was upset that I ordered online and took a whole 10 seconds of his day to pick it up.
Service here is generally poor and I won't be going back for a while after a pretty nasty experience today. I'm not the...
Read morePizza is by far my favorite food, yet I am rather picky about where I go for my favorite food. I have some Italian in my blood line, family owned pizza parlor when younger and grew up on the thin crust, huge slices, New York style pizza and also family from Chicago so had my fair share of the best of that as well. When I moved to Denver I tried probably 25-30 pizza places and really only like 2-3 enough to go again and sliceworks is at the top of that short list. The thin crust is crisp but still chewy enough, the thick crust I like as well, and also they have a type called Grandma's I think that is in-between the thick and thin crust with tomato sauce on top minus the normal cheese covering everything... Work a try even though little different than most are used to. They have many topping choices and combos like the Buffalo chicken and ranch (wife and daughter's favorite), baked potato, jalapeno poppers, etc. My family also has to get a few garlic knots which are always hot, fresh, soft, real minced garlic on top, and everything else we have tried has been great. Pizza prices are very reasonable at less than $3 for cheese or pepperoni or about $4 for specialty pizza. Great for dinner or a quick cheap lunch, roughly $5 for pizza, garlic, drink is awesome to me and I get filled up. There are a couple convenient downtown locations and even when busy service is fast, not to mention free snacks when in line waiting to order. Great place, service, and food... You...
Read moreI stopped by this place because I was starving and walking from Union Station. The inside is clean and presentable, and everything you would expect from a pizza place. What you won't expect is how unique and spot on their pizzas are. I don't even remember seeing any basic pepperoni, as I was distracted by their triple cheese (with ricotta, yum) and burger pizza. They had lots of other pies that you could purchase by the slice, which was promptly popped into their brick oven before serving.
I've eaten a lot of pizza in my life, and I can appreciate all kinds. That said, there are certain qualities that make a truly good slice. Temperature must be hot, crust should be chewy but with a little crunch and not too flaky, and the toppings shouldn't taste too processed.
SliceWorks checked all of those boxes and more. They are supposed to be a New York style place so their slices are bigger and foldable, and I crushed the first cheese pizza in what felt like three bites. I was halfway through my second slice, the burger pizza (had beef, bacon, and what tasted like two kinds of cheese) before I realized that the pizza had ketchup on it as well, and I actually LIKED it. I normally don't go for places that experiment too much because it feels like a gimmick, and a lot of times they just throw combinations together without consideration for how it will taste. SliceWorks is not one of those places, and I look forward to coming back...
