Kamper's is doing something very special. Perched atop the gorgeously renovated Book Towerâa building with a rich history of its own and a shining example of Detroit's iconic art deco architectureâKamper's draws inspiration from the wine and tapas bars of Spain and the legendary cocktail culture of Detroit. Let me assuage your fears: no, this is not a second-rate bar charging a premium for a view of the city (though the view is stunning) and no, this unlikely combination of influences does not result in an overwhelming menu or an aesthetic identity crisis. Instead, Kamper's is a brilliant synthesis, where Spanish wines, sherries, and pinxos feel right at home next to martinis, negronis, and manhattans. The hosts and staff have always provided an elevated experience tailored to my needsâgreeting me by name as soon as I step off the elevator and leading me to a quiet, candlelit corner table for a date night, a seat at the bar if I'm dropping in after work, or couches around a fire pit on the terrace if I'm entertaining a group. The menu is simple, elegant, and original, featuring house cocktails (creative but not gimmicky), classic cocktails, lists for wine, sherry, and spirits, and a concise assortment of tapas (you can't go wrong). There are great options for groups as well, like a flight of draft negronis or a pitcher of sangria. The bartenders are talented, knowledgeable, and friendly, and have just enough of a flair for the dramatic when mixing drinks. The music is fun but not basic, and the decor is refined but not stuffy. The crowd is a refreshing mix of Detroiters, young and old, urban and suburban, rowdy and mild mannered. Whether you're looking for a classic cocktail made to your exact specifications, or you want to be taken on a journey through Spanish wines and sherries, or you and your friends need 12 espresso martinis and you need them yesterday, check out Kamper's for a genuinely interesting and unique rooftop experience in the...
Read moreShalom shramily, I want to inform you of one of the newest vibes in downtown Detroit, this is Book Towers on Michigan Ave. They do have valet parking and paid street parking but you also may have to do some walking to get to this building This spot is a vibe itâs not really a restaurant although they do have a Italian restaurant connected inside the building, they also showcase a mini historical museum about the Book Towers functionality throughout history, they will also be opening a sake bar and a Japanese restaurant as well letâs not forget about the window view of the Italian restaurants baking spectacle and they also showcase their amazing wine selection I witnessed this while waiting for the rooftops concierge to escort us to the 13th floor for the experience and we were greeted by another flight of stairs đ overall is was worth it and as we walked we were informed of the exquisite cocktails and finger food itâs not really a place for vegan vegetarian or pescatarian but they do have a few options like olives in like garlic tomato bread and it was another dish that they had ran out of that obviously was kind of good from the not having any more but we didnât get a chance to order that but overall great atmosphere concierge was very insightful I gave it to stars due to the food not really being a restaurant just like somewhere for finger foods and drinks if you in a live downtown or in the book towers this is a place to unwind with wine vibes or cocktails The outside lounge was great have me LA rooftop vibes but mind you itâs getting cold that have fire pits so no worries, I for one like summer time rooftop scenarios but to each is own! I have some videos and pictures that Iâll showcase of all of the things Iâve mentioned in this review and as always enjoy and save me some but you might not have to save me just olives or anything so just save me...

I never write reviews, but our experience at Kamperâs Rooftop Bar in Detroit was so unbelievably poor that it deserves to be called out in full.
From the moment we sat down, it felt like our table was treated as an inconvenience. The rooftop fireplace went out twice, and when we politely asked the staff to relight itâespecially since the weather was cold and we had three women visibly shiveringâwe were met with apathy. Management outright refused to assist. No explanation, no apology. Just pure disregard.
We ordered a single appetizer, something incredibly simpleâand somehow, they still managed to mess it up. On top of that, Two out of five drinks came out wrong, and no effort was made to correct them.
Things only got worse. Upon leaving, we were forced to wait in a freezing stairwell for the rest of our party, and when staff saw us standing there, they shooed us away like we didnât belong. The so-called hostess made us feel like literal garbage.
Iâve been to Kamperâs before, when they first opened, and it was decent. But this place has fallen off fast and hard. The service was unprofessional, the atmosphere was chaotic, and the attitude from staff made us feel like second-class citizens. Itâs embarrassing that this is what passes for âhospitalityâ in Detroit.
Do not waste your time or money here. There are far better places in the city that understand basic decency and service. Kamperâs has officially lost my business, and Iâll be sharing...
