My husband, myself, and our 2.5, and 11 month old came here Tuesday the 5th.
We decided on this restraunt because of the good reviews. Unfortunately we didn't feel it was a very welcoming atmosphere.
The second we walked in we could feel everyone staring at us and angry that we were even there. We knew it was because of our girls.
Our waiter was not friendly at all. She asked if we were going to even eat or just have water in an extremely rude tone. Just by her facial expressions we didn't feel welcomed. We were about ready to walk out but decided to try it out still.
We had to ask for a highchair. We would of gotten it ourselves but they were no where we could see them.
We ordered drinks, they were out fast. I had to ask for an extra cup so our 11 month old would be able to drink. (I asked when we also asked for the highchair. The lady seemed extremely cranky she had to do that.) We ordered food. I had to add an extra egg as the 2.5 hates scrambled eggs but the 11 month old can only eat scrambled. Than for my dish I changed it from American cheese to feta added spinach and did a side dish of bacon. Nothing complicated.
The food came out quick and was ok. We've had better, we've had worse. (We travel a lot! And prefer ma and pa places)
We ate and cleaned up our table and even wiped the highchair down. We stacked plates and did the best we could so it was easier for cleanup even though we were treated poorly.
I highly do not recommend this place if you have small children. They seem to be for older folks.
We understand sometimes people have cranky days but she could at least tried and faked it. We left and all I wanted to...
Read moreI wanted to like this place, since it’d be good to have a cheap breakfast place to eat at, but the food was really gross, and the server was grouchy and weirdly unfriendly to us from the moment we walked in. I got the vegetable stuffed hash browns and was disappointed to find my plate was full of wet “mixed vegetables,” (pre-chopped carrots and broccoli, the kind you microwave to serve with dinner, and not really standard for breakfast) and a can of cold diced tomatoes— topped with one sticky slice of American cheese. Hadn’t even been stirred in or anything.
The whole thing tasted completely awful, like the cook didn’t care what they were sending out. It gave me the idea that this is not a restaurant which knows or cares how to cook vegetables or even which vegetables to serve at breakfast.
It also would have been nice to know that there’s be American cheese on the hash browns. There was no indication on the menu. I’ve always hated the stuff, but also I’d have liked to avoid the dairy as well, and if I’d known it was a part of the meal I would have asked for one without.
Overall, a very bad and unfriendly dining experience. Waitress scowled the whole time and acted like she was angry that my family was there. We never complained and acted super friendly back.
The coffee was sort of okay, I guess.
Not a good place for vegetarians/vegans, unless you like diced carrots and uncooked cans of tomatoes...
Read moreMy wife and I tried this place for breakfast while visiting Duluth. We're from Chicago and we love to try local diners while we're on the road. Uncle Loui's is basically a campus diner that serves the UM-Duluth community. My wife tried the Uncle Loui's scrambler and really enjoyed it. I had their version of a meat lover's omelet and I enjoyed that as well. I had the breakfast potatoes with my omelet and thought that they were very good. The atmosphere is very casual, as you would expect at a campus diner. It's all very "Go Bulldogs" and the majority of the people we saw appeared to be UM students. We got there around 9am on a Sunday morning, were able to seat ourselves right away. When we left, there was a line out the door of people waiting. The only drawback was that our service was not great. After dropping off our food, our server never stopped by our table again. Bussers and another server helped us, while our server kept walking past us. Overall, good food, cozy atmosphere and...
