Coasters Taphouse, 5675 North Atlantic Avenue, #122, Cocoa Beach, Florida - 4-Stars
The Big Boy is back on the grind in 2023. My first stop led me to Cocoa Beach, the home of tourist clip joints and sub-par food. The only restaurant I had ever given high marks to in this spring break wasteland went out of business during the pandemic. Tragic. Although I am an non-believer, a restaurant with excellent food, atmosphere, and service is holy to me. A brilliantly-executed dining establishment is my halidom. It is where I go to worship.
At Coasters Taphouse, our waiter came out of the gate awesome and stayed there. Zane is now on my Top 5 Brevard Service List.
The menu looked interesting and the food came out beautiful. Check out the pictures of the food and menu. If any of this seems familiar to my South Brevard beachside followers, it is because the popular Coasters Pub & Biergarten on Eau Gallie Boulevard in Indian Harbour Beach is under the same ownership.
From the top of that day's Taphouse Food Specials menu, I ordered the Shrimp Dip, described as a sultry, homemade shrimp dip with chopped jumbo shrimp meat, tossed with sautéed veggies & sherry, folded-in cream cheese & baked with shredded cheddar-jack and served with warm pita. If that description didn't make your mouth water, see your dentist. The texture and flavors were executed flawlessly. The pita triangles were warm and soft. Mmm mmm good.
Also from the food specials menu was the Coasters Club! When I saw this sandwich, it took me back to the 1980's and Hubbs Pub. Slow-roasted and sliced turkey breast, house-made pastrami, homemade coleslaw and thousand island dressing slapped within triple decker marbled rye. It came with a side and I chose broccoli. Yes, the Big Boy eats his vegetables too.
The Elk Burger was the Taphouse's Exotic Burger of the Day. A half pound of elk meat chargrilled to perfection, topped with melted cheddar and beautiful slices of pickle, onion, lettuce and tomato, with a side of fries. Because elk is leaner than beef, I did notice the gamey nature of the meat. However, it was executed flawlessly. Big, thick and flavorful.
The Big Boy says, "The rest of the food in Cocoa Beach pretty much sucks. At least Coasters...
Read moreUsed to be the place on the beach to go for me, not anymore sadly. Place still has great amazing food. The wings are second to none still. They made some changes, i think, are good and bad. The cheaper price for cash i like it. keep the prices down if you pay cash, so make sure to bring cash now, or you will be charged a 3.3% service fee. What really disappoints me now, though, is they lost their soul a little when it came to their soft drinks. Used to have the best soda around with their craft sodas. No high fruitos corn syrup in those, and they tasted amazing. They really were a big reason I kept coming back here. They exchanged it for generic coke products now and are far less healthier for you. They also charge ya extra for any kind of sauce like ranch and no longer offer any celery and carrots with their wings either. I've been coming here for 3 years now, and I think this will be the last time outside special events like a birthday party. Place feels more like a soulless corporate restaurant now than an authentic ever changing...
Read moreI recently ended up at Coasters Taphouse on a Thursday night dinner outing. I've been there many times previously and had a great experience. First the good... the staff was all following safe covid-19 practices and wearing masks, and the hostess and waitress were pleasant and efficient. Now for the not so good. I ordered their exotic burger ($17.25) which was venison, and when it arrived at my table it was lukewarm, not hot like I expect a burger to be. But the thing that really upset me was when I ordered a cherry Belgian ale listed for $9.25 for 12 oz, and when it got to the table it was served in a 0.25 liter wine glass, which is only 8.5 oz. It wouldn't have been that big a deal if it wasn't that expensive. Also, it wasn't the only one advertised as such. Please either change the menu or serve in a bigger glass! Hopefully the management will rectify this problem ASAP. As I indicated previously this is one of the better restaurants of this type around, so I don't want to discourage people from...
