Riscky's BBQ is located in the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards, serving good BBQ at an affordable price with great views of the historical sights of the Stockards!
We came through right after the 1130 cattle herd that is conducted daily to enjoy some BBQ and rest our feet from walking all morning touring the site. They offer indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of benches and heaters outside for the cold winter months. The indoor seating seemed a bit too dark with minimal natural light but was designed and decorated nicely. We went ahead and took our seats and placed our drink orders and appetizers from the waitress. We started the day off with a draft Shiner on tap and went ahead and got the onion strings and fried pickles. After browsing through the menus and noticing the all you can eat beef ribs and lunch specials they have during the week, we went ahead and ordered 1 beef rib all you can eat, a 3 meat platter with brisket, beef ribs and pork ribs. We also got the fried catfish and smoked sausage plate since the waitress basically demanded us to get another entree, saying that the food we ordered wouldn't be enough for our group. We also ordered a chicken salad for the table as well.
The food came out quickly fast and was looking great. The appetizers were both fantastic, and the ranch complimented the dish very well. The AYCE beef ribs came out with coleslaw and were looking delightful. They came 4 on a plate and were huge! The ribs were quite tasty, but in my opinion, they were a bit dry and not moist. The BBq sauce they have was nice with a bit of a twist and added tremendous flavor to it. The catfish was not as fresh and overcooked in my opinion as well and seemed to be sitting under the hot lamp waiting to be served since they have an AYCE Catfish option as well. The brisket tasted great and was nice and juicy, but the pork ribs were on the dry side as well appearing to be sitting under the hotlamp for a long period of time as well.
Overall, it was a good BBQ spot to enjoy good food with friends and family while touring the stockyards . The prices were fair and decent, especially for the AYCE special that can't be beat, but then again, it's more of a quantity over quality when coming here as well as a touristy spot for out of town guest. The service was mediocre, and our waitress seemed unpleasant and not excited to be at work...
Read moreOnly thing to change is the manger that was there 2/17/2023 around 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM. As always food was good. The waiter was great too. We were a family of 4 adults and two kids under 7. Two adults ordered all you can eat ribs with fries each, the other two ordered all you can eat catfish with fries each and one extra baked potato. Our kids picked off of the fries only. When I ordered another round of catfish, my mother in law wanted more also. I told her, lets both eat off my round since we both originally ordered all you can eat catfish so that, if we don’t finish it, we don’t waste a second round. A few minutes after a random employee brought that second round, the waiter told us the manager decided not to serve us anymore unlimited items because we were sharing. Reminder: my mother in law and I were eating off the same second round of catfish because we both ordered unlimited catfish. Kids weren’t eating catfish, and the other two adults who ordered unlimited ribs were not eating catfish. The waiter told us that he tried explaining to the manager how we ordered but the manager wouldn’t hear him out. We asked the waiter to bring the manager over to talk to him. The waiter came back and said the manger would come in a minute. The manager never came and talked to us. While we were walking out, we saw the manger standing by the kitchen door, not talking to any employee, or doing anything at all, just standing. But once we got close he turned around and walked into the kitchen. That is bad customer service on that managers part. He made a decision based on a false accusation, and when asked to speak to him he ignored the request. Perhaps he was embarrassed he was wrong? If you’re in customer service and you’re wrong, the best thing to do is retract your decision. I do not agree with the saying that “the customer is always right. In this case, we didn’t even get explain what we felt was a simple...
Read moreOne star. That's all I can do. There are multiple reasons for a less than stellar review. Please allow me to explain. First, I'm a native Texan and have experienced an absolute plethora of BBQ restaurants in various parts of Texas. We were visiting Ft Worth for a wedding and were simply wondering around downtown killing time. We stopped in at Riscky’s simply because it was convenient. We both decided to get catfish tacos. But, I truly wanted to try the bbq since I was afterall, in a bbq restaurant. First, let's talk catfish tacos. You get two with an order plus a side for $13.99. Not a bad price but the fish was bland. They had very little flavor. They have an all-you-can eat catfish option but honestly, I'm glad I didn't order it because it hardly had any flavor. Since I was eating at a bbq restaurant, I also ordered two beef ribs; $3 each. Simply put, not only were they not good, they were bad. The seasoning and flavor just wasn't good and hardly had any smoke flavor. The potato salad and french fry sides should never be the best part of a meal but in this case, they were. If you're visiting Texas, allowing Riscky’s be your only experience with Texas BBQ is well, risky.
Another HUGE pet peeve of mine is auto-computed tips that INCLUDE tax!!! Establishments should NEVER auto-compute a tip on top of the sales tax. Please look at my pictured receipt and do the math. Tip is auto-computed with the tax. This is simply an incorrect practice. As an example, the computed 18% tip should be $6.73, not $7.28.
Bottom line - Subpar taste with food and bad auto-computed tip practices make this place a no-go for me. I won't be back. Bon appétit, y'all......
