We love Opa's! We have been twice (2022 during our honeymoon & 2023 for our 1st anniversary). This small meat market has good food and great people!

Location: easy to find by gps. You notice their sign coming down the road. Parking is right off the road or in their small parking lot. Close to main street.

Atmosphere: welcoming and friendly. They allow you to sample if you'd like. They also serve sandwiches and sides. When we went on a Saturday early morning, it smelled of delicious bacon!

Service: friendly and open to talking. We didn't feel rushed. They were able to make recommendations. The cashier was very sweet and positive.

Food: deli meats, cheeses, bottle drinks, sandwiches, bratwurst, jarred items, German foods, etc. We got their blueberry cheese, smoked green onion cheese, jarred Sauerkraut, and hog head cheese.

Extra: we attended the Oktober fest where Opa's served food. We got their bratwurst and sauerkraut & bacon dog and omg- so good!!

If you want a good, friendly, thoughtful shop-stop in...

A rough experience. Was looking for Volga German sausage, but figured that would be a tall order. Instead I asked if they had one that had a lot of pepper and garlic to try getting at least close to it. No one could tell me if their sausage had or didn't have that flavor. Eventually, the guy working in the back came up and started looking at the ingredients list on the back. He then gave me a package saying "this one has onion in it" and hurried back. It is alarming to me that a smoked meat shop does not know what their meats contain or even taste like.

We ended up not buying anything and when we tried to leave, the door was locked behind us. The employee who had previously unlocked the door and taken our temperature (both I hope are abnormal outside of the pandemic situation) was talking to someone else, leaving us standing there uncomfortably trapped in this small area with no way out. Eventually, I managed to find her key and use it...

The food here always smells and tastes great. Yesterday, me and my partner came here to grab some lunch and the food was delicious. If you're wanting a great sandwich I would come here. Furthermore, their Reuben sandwich is really good. I know people like to say Hondo's Reuben sandwich is good but, in my opinion, Opa's Reuben sandwich is clearly better because you can taste all of the ingredients in the sandwich rather than one ingredient overpowering the whole sandwich. The customer service at Opa's Smoked Meat is also above par because unlike Hondo's or other restaurants they care about what you want and the service they provide. I definitely recommend anyone who is Fredericksburg to at least stop by here for lunch because I can bet you won't be dissatisfied because there is something...

First off, the reviews are skewed because during COVID some people were offended by the request to use masks.. that’s not fair to a business selling food products and is childish on the reviewers part I’m a big fan of their cheddar jalapeño sauasage. Got addicted while living in Austin and have ordered it on line for a few years. Recently visited Austin and the picture shows what’s going in my carry on . Have not had one person I’ve served this to not insist on the info to order. It’s that good One time in Leander I hosted a party where I grilled prime ribeyes and Opas jalapeño cheddar sausage and the guests raved more about the sausage..

This is a must visit for Fredericksburg sausages and cured meats. They have generous samples and friendly staff. If you're there around lunchtime during the week you'll see busy locals popping in to order their sandwiches. Nowhere to eat on site, but plenty of places to take your Opa's lunch for a picnic. Also worth taking home some of their German mustard and gourmet condiments. Enter near the street in the front door! The new building along the parking lot is a giant walk-in cooler, made to look like it has a front door. Some signs clearly mark the way...
