Sunset Grill — Restaurant in Fredericksburg

Five stars are a difficult task to achieve from me, but I found a couple on a recent trip. The Sunset Grill in Fredericksburg, TX is clearly one of them. Set on State Highway 16 just a few blocks south of Main St in Fredericksburg, you might miss the Sunset Grill if you are not paying attention, and that would be an incredible shame.

I chose to start my morning off with the Ham Steak and Eggs, a thick-cut slab of country ham served with your style of eggs, those incredible pan-fried potatoes and your choice of bread. The eggs were perfectly done and the ham was wonderful, but what sold the whole place were those potatoes. The pan-fried potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned and could have made an entire meal themselves.

My son tried The California omlette an I have to say, I was fairly impressed with that myself. It is an omlette made from applewood smoked bacon, red onions, cheddar and Jack cheese, topped with sliced avocado. Every bite was packed with flavor and I almost wished I ordered it myself.

If you find yourself in Fredericksburg and want to got to the Sunset Grill, go early. It is a popular stop. The staff was friendly, accommodating and fast. The food was wonderful and is sourced locally. You could tell by the coloring and the flavor that the eggs were traditionally farm raised, along with whatever else they can obtain from the local markets. This little place definitely deserves...

We sat inside which was definitely the right choice! The food was phenomenal and the service was fast. I wish we could shout our servers name but she was moving so fast I couldn’t see it. She checked in on us several times and did a great job.

I don’t typically choose sweet options but the banana french toast was spectacular. It had this caramel sauce that wasn’t overly nauseating sweet but had almost a saltiness to it. It was delicious the bananas were cooked or something so they melted into the bread and it was great. Would definitely recommend trying it.

We also had the big A sandwich - also phenomenal. The bacon could’ve been more cooked but overall I’d still give it a 10/10. The flavors and how it was cooked just melted together really well. The potato’s were yummy and salted and the bun was so delicious.

We also got a side biscuit and gravy. Biscuit was a 10/10. The gravy needed something more but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I’d give it a 6/10.

Overall really enjoyed our experience here!

Okay so we loved our meal so much we came again today. The food was still delicious but our waitress unfortunately was not near as good as the first. She came to check up on us once but walked away before we could answer and was overall dismissive and a bit rude. I think her name was Paulette. I hope it was just a fluke but definitely dampened the experience and if we came back I would not want to be seated in...

Went to Sunset Grill for breakfast and this place did not disappoint. Let me apologize for not taking photos of the plates. Check their website for photos. I was hungry and couldn't help but jump right on in when the plates arrived.

After signing in, we waited about 5-10 minutes. Fantastic! The dining area was small, but the atmosphere was great (TEXAS Hill Country Vibe!). I ordered my go to breakfast: 2 eggs, bacon, wheat toast. They offer roast red potatoes instead of hash browns. Anyway, the plate looked, smelled and most importantly, tasted fantastic! 😋 The eggs were just a bit underdone for me, but my wife reminded me that I ordered over medium. Bacon was crisp, bread was toasted nicely, but the potatoes were perfection. Some lightly roasted, some roasted to a crisp, and some with burnt edges. Wooo Baby those were great. We saw our server walk by with the Banana-French toast and had to try it. We ordered the plate and we were happy that we did. You get 3 TEXAS Toast type slices, plentiful amount of banana pieces and the syrup was just right. Sweet, but not too sweet. It was just the right amount for us. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better breakfast. Perfect way to start my day off and prep myself for the walk that was to come with Main St Shopping. That's another topic altogether. I try my best to not steer you wrong. This place was great and I'm sure you'll think the same....
