This place is a MUST stop! Every local we asked shared that Granite House was their first and second choice for dinner. We were not disappointed whatsoever and upon returning to Fredericksburg, we will be back.
We ordered a couple apps: voodoo shrimp (which resembled the infamous bang bang shrimp). The only negative thing I can say about this was that there was just too few shrimp! The shrimp were crispy despite being lathered in that sweet/savory sauce. Tasted great by themselves and dipped in the accompanying white bbq sauce. I was intrigued by the description because any “white sauce” usually tends to be ranch, but this wasn’t. It was perfect. Also had the oysters Baton Rouge. My goodness they were enjoyable. Perfectly crisp and crunchy. Not to mention the plate was full of them for all to enjoy. The herb butter sauce made for a nice pairing.
Our entrees consisted of a couple salads and the pasta of the day. One salad was the iceberg slab and let me tell you, this salad was sheer perfection. The Gorgonzola crumbles paired with the bacon and dressing was chef’s kiss. Always order this salad. The other salad was a side Caesar, which was much larger than I expected. You can never go wrong with a Caesar salad IMO. The star of the (entree) show was the house pasta. That evening it was the Cajun shrimp pasta, but our kids preferred to have chicken, so they ended up splitting a crispy breaded chicken pasta with a creamy sauce. They devoured it and that’s saying a lot for taste buds that seem to continuously change. It was a large dish to easily share between two people, even adults. The chicken remained crispy despite being dipped in the sauce.
Ultimately, this place is worth trying, then coming back to whenever in the area. Highly recommend. If you do plan on coming, plan your evening out so you’re not waiting a long time; we timed it perfectly and only waited about 10-15 mins and once we were seated, the number of patrons...
Read moreFirst time going to Granite House in Fredericksburg and it was worth the wait. Food: Gave it 5 stars because it was amazing. Appetizers we had were the tuna nachos and fried oysters and artichokes. They were perfectly fried, lots of flavor and a great portion to split between 2 people. The Tuna Nachos was my favorite. They were so good, when we got home a few days later, I made it for dinner. My wife loved her shrimp and grits entree and the blue cheese burger I had was cooked perfectly well. The garlic pepper fries were amazing.
Service: Service was fantastic. After getting on the wait list, headed to the bar and got 2 drinks pretty quick. Smiling faces all around. When we got seated (approx. 15 min later) our server was fun, energetic and friendly. She was attentive throughout our experience and knew the menu pretty well.
Atmosphere: The restaurant is a bit snug, meaning it appears crowded when you first walk in, but kinda opens up after you sit down. The noise level was good. You could hear the conversation at the table next to you, but it wasn't distracting. Plenty of outside and inside seating options. We went on a Tuesday in July so the summer heat kept us inside to dine. Plenty of table room and comfy chairs, so it did feel comfortable sitting inside.
This is one of the best spots to go eat in Fredericksburg. We come visit a few times a year, so we definitely...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant after reading the great reviews and photos of the amazing looking food. It was a Saturday evening, so we fully expected to wait, and we were prepared to wait a while. After being told it would be an hour and it was now at an hour and a half wait time, I asked the host how much longer he thought it would be. We were told another 20-25 minutes. Ok it was fine, the bar waitstaff was pleasant and we were fine, even though it was going on 8:30 pm and the restaurant closes at 9. A gentleman and his guest asked a lady walking around how long their wait was going to be and she informed him they were getting their table ready. One of us mentioned that we had been there for over an hour and a half and arrived before this gentleman had (there was 3 of us in our party) and the lady whom had just told him they were getting his table ready quickly said to us “You need to calm down!” Which none of us were being overly loud or rude at all. She walked away and someone else came and took us to a table in the next 5 minutes. We ordered and the burgers were over cooked had hardly any toppings on them as we had gotten the pimento cheese topped burgers. Anyway, we were so excited to try this place out and were let down. Mostly by the service. I hope that this is not how others get treated when they visit this very neat...
