I have been excited to try C Ellet’s for some time now and the opportunity came when my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday there. Unfortunately, our experience fell flat and I hope this review will help management with training and consistency.
Service: this was the biggest problem of the evening. Our server was sporadic and, quite frankly, awkward. When we arrived, we asked our server if we could put our coats in the booth next to us if it was closed for social distancing. He was more interested in flirting with one of the members of our group than answering our question and proceeded to dance around in his response to where we never got a straight answer. So, one of us hung their coat over the booth, another kept her jacket on, another sat on hers, and I shoved mine into the corner of the booth. Next, we inquired about getting fries as an appetizer. Again, our server danced around the question for some reason, flirted more with one member of our group again and then walked away, leaving us confused as to if we were even going to get the appetizer or not. We did end up receiving it, but not until we asked/reminded him if he had put it in. The service for the rest of the meal was spotty, with our server not coming by after the meal was delivered to see how things were, disappearing for long stretches, and not bringing things that we asked for until reminded. I must say, though, other servers seemed to be attentive to their tables and another server did stop at our table and give us an appetizer, on the house, that was a mistake from the kitchen.
Food: it was just okay, for the most part, with a big winner. We started out with rolls ($2 each) and drinks. My roll was slightly stale and cold (like it had been sitting in a bin for awhile), but I powered through. One of the members of the group could barely eat hers and asked us how we could even get through ours. We thought she was just being dramatic, so we tried it and it was almost a crouton it was so stale. We banged it in the plate to confirm our distaste and the server told us he would bring another one; however, it didn’t come until after our meal arrived and we didn’t want it (it was taken off the bill). For $2 per roll, they should have been MUCH better. Since we had so many carbs as appetizers, I opted for a salad with steak on top for my entree. This was fine - not bad, not great, just....fine. I do have to mention, though, that the salads are more like side salads and not entree salads, however, I thought it was the perfect amount of food with everything else we had ordered. The star (and hands down winner) of the meal was the Mac and Cheese - wow!!!
Pricing: My biggest concern was the pricing on the bill at the end of the evening. I had ordered two Finlandia Moscow Mules (I ordered it verbatim off the menu), which were listed on the menu at $8. For some reason, I was charged $10 for each drink and another person in our group was overcharged by $4/drink for her drinks, as well. I’m kicking myself now for not saying anything, but at the time I didn’t want to rock the boat at my friend’s birthday dinner. I’m not upset about the few extra dollars I spent, but I’m disappointed that they sneakily added in extra charges, for whatever reason.
Overall: My individual final bill, before tip, was almost $60. I’m happy spending that much if food and service warrant it, but I don’t feel it did in this case. For $60, I paid for two Moscow Mules, a side Caesar salad with a small piece of steak on top, and a side of mac and cheese.
Based on the reviews, if service had been stellar and food a little off, I would have tried C Ellet’s again because it could have been an off night. Because of service (or lack thereof) and pricing inconsistencies, I’m sorry to say that will...

This experience deserves a warning to others. Our dinner at C. Ellet’s was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time—especially considering the high price point and the reputation this restaurant tries to uphold.
We waited 30 minutes just to place our appetizer order, and then 15 minutes later, our waitress Jasmine returned to let us know one of the items—the potato skins—was unavailable. After that, she disappeared for another 40 minutes before coming back so we could finally place our entrée order.
All the while, we sat at a tiny, cramped two-top table outside, surrounded by dirty appetizer plates, empty drink glasses, and a bowl of melted ice from our oysters. It sat on the table untouched until the very end, when it was finally picked up—and spilled water everywhere from sitting too long.
Once we placed our entrée order, we waited another 20 minutes just to be told that one of the sides we selected wasn’t available. When our food finally arrived—nearly two hours after being seated—it was a complete letdown.
Our filets with crab Oscar were stone cold, not lukewarm—cold. And beyond the temperature, the food was just bad. We were served boxed whipped potatoes, and everything else tasted like it came straight from a freezer. Absolutely nothing about the meal felt fresh or thoughtfully prepared.
We were so disappointed that we wanted to leave and just go get a pizza, but at that point we had already been there two hours and didn’t want to go through waiting again just to have our food remade.
The entire evening was chaotic—drinks and food were repeatedly brought to the wrong tables, our food was even mistakenly given to another table, and overall, every staff member we interacted with seemed confused and unmotivated.
Jasmine was kind when she was present, but she was missing most of the night and moved very slowly, with no urgency or real awareness of how bad the experience had become.
And to be clear: this was not a busy night. We could see 11 empty tables from our seat.
We tried to end the night on a sweet note by ordering crème brûlée, but even that fell flat. It was served with a fork, and Jasmine told us she’d be back with a spoon. She never came back.
I’ve eaten at C. Ellet’s before and hoped things had improved. They haven’t. In fact, this visit was enough to ensure I won’t be returning. For what they charge, this restaurant should be polished and consistent—not cold food, boxed sides, confused staff, and painfully slow service.
Save your time, your money, and your night—go...
