Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Georgia

Steak n Shake is kind of a staple where we moved from, and to my knowledge there’s not one near where we currently live, so when we drove past the one in Kennesaw, we decided to stop for lunch. It seemed odd to me that the parking lot was virtually empty so close to lunchtime, but we decided to go in anyway. At this location you order at a kiosk. We while my husband was going through the “pages” of pics; I looked around.

The first thing I noticed was what appeared to be the manager/owner making the burgers. He was NOT wearing a covering of ANY kind over his hair🤬🤬🤬🤬 which in my former state is a health violation. Leaning over the hot griddle, the manager constantly wiped his sweaty forehead with the gloved wrist and kept on cooking. (So, lemme git this straight) the minute hair particles, dandruff & the stuff that flies around in the air are falling off your head and into the burgers that you’re making for people..

I took video, but I wasn’t able to get any with him wiping his forehead. I noted that ALL THE OTHER Employees were wearing hats! (A Note to the Owner: Good practices Start from the Top and then trickle down)!!!!!!!

There was NO talking in the restaurant unless it was the manager. Your store does not come off as warm, or friendly like the kind of place that I’d want my teenager to work.

I stood and watched the manager a long time deciding whether or not to cancel my order. I didn’t want him making my food…BUT THEN!! I heard the phrase “May the odds be ever in your favor” (from the Hunger Games) This was accompanied by the sun coming out from behind the clouds and angelic music in the background! My dude had to go to the bathroom and he called one of the girls to make our order!!

Crisis Averted!!!!! So, I made my way to the drink station I found the floor to be Seriously SLIPPERY!! I noted that there were NO anti slip rugs anywhere!! You just haven’t gotten the “right” or wrong person in your restaurant yet, sir. This is a slip and fall case waiting to happen!!😡 I will say that the table tops were all clean, and there was no food, food particles, mustard or ketchup to be seen anywhere in the restaurant tables or floors!

If only there was a zero star option. I've traveled the world over and have had amazing restaurant experiences, so who would have thought my all-time worst experience would be in my own backyard of Kennesaw. The Steak 'n Shake located at 825 Barrett Parkway, Kennesaw, GA 30144 is despicable! I only went because my boyfriend loves their hamburgers. We went through the drive-thru on Sunday, April 7 around 3 pm. We waited 1 min and no one asked for our order at the drive-thru. My boyfriend said, hello. The response was "Please hold." After waiting another 5 mins., we heard, "Sorry for the hold but we're short-staffed," and then nothing.

We waited because he wanted a burger. We waited a total of 20 mins and I got bored and started saying, "Hello, anyone there? It's Christmas now and New Year's. Oh my, it's Valentine's Day and we want to order. Are you ready for our order yet?" The lady said, "No. Have a nice day." I said, "Can we order now?" She said nothing. I went into the establishment to ask to speak to the manager. Guess what? The manager was the person at the drive-thru. Her name is Kat and should be removed from dealing with people IMMEDIATELY!

There are too many qualified people in need of a job that should have that position. And as a manager, you set the bar for your employees. Well, she refused to talk to me and told an employee to tell me that she was busy. I stood there and took pictures of the multiple employees there, so no reason why there was such a wait at the drive-thru. PLUS, people inside were complaining. The Uber driver next to me said he was tired of waiting and canceled his delivery. He said he had been waiting so long he knew he wouldn't get a good review, so canceled without penalty. Fast-food establishments must do better.

I plan to have a discussion with the owner whose name is Khan. I have your number, so expect a call from me. The kitchen that everyone could see was filthy and I'm positive it violated code regulations. I have photos. There were fries all over the floor and all around the fry bin. Handling of food was definitely against code. Train better and care more. This could not be the first time you've heard this since the reviews for this place...

A few months back, someone from corporate or a regional manager came in to get the place back to its original glory. We saw this man several times over about a month. It has been a month or two since he left. The restaurant is sticky, from door handles, to order screens, booths, chairs, soda dispensers, etc: The entire building is filthy! The last 3 times I went in, there were zero napkins, ketchup holders, and seasoned salt packets. The wait and attitudes of employees gets worse every visit. My last visit it took over 20 minutes for a double and fries Togo, It was far from busy. I noticed the "cooked to order" burgers were stacked up ten burgers tall, and five rows deep on the left side of the grill. For it to be not busy, and have 50 burgers pre grilled is atrocious, and I doubt anyone at corporate would approve. I truly hope they get someone back out here asap to replace management immediately, the same employees were doing a wonderful job under the manager that made them work. Now the management is as lazy as any minimum wage employee, and that is clearly the largest issue. When I ask the manager for ketchup, napkins, salt, etc: he rolls his eyes and does not offer an apology for his unkept mess. I could not find a way to attach photos to this review unfortunately, but I have photos of the 50 burgers on the grill, and everything a filthy mess. I truly hope this issue is resolved, because we love Steak and Shake! Just not when it's this run down and disgusting inside.

Post Edit: The manager I spoke about came back about a week after I wrote this. He got the place is perfect working order in a matter of days. I left town for 2 weeks and now he is gone and it is pure garbage again. This location has zero management, just employees who dont...
