This was a bit of a dissapointment but let me be fair. The beer was good, $7 for a flight of 4, $15 for a full flight of all their mainstay beers and $16 for a full flight of all their seasonals. There was no list with the seasonals on the menu or even available so I had to walk around the corner and take a picture of the TV while the seasonal list was showing between advertisements. :/ Menu included below for anyone that goes there before they rotate out their stock. The only beers I will complain about is the Cream Al and the Strawberry Pale Ale, the Cream Ale which tasted and smelled and looked like and IPA, and nothing at all like a Cream Ale, was just bad. So either I got the wrong pour or they just don't make a good Cream Ale. And that's fair, not everyone can make everything to everyone's liking. The Strawberry Pale Ale tasted just like the Cream Ale, and nothing like strawberries at all. The Espresso stout was really good, nice coffee finish on a full body stout, the blackberry sour was delicious, great color and full of flavor with that sour bite, Embers Remain was in my opinion phenomenal if you enjoy a good Imperial then you'll love this. The food. On a plus note the pulled pork was great according to the young lady who had it, it was a nice porion, bun had their logo charred into the top, nice presentation on the plate and she said it was delicious. And then we have the nachos ... Oh can I tell you there are something's that can ruin everything and it was the nachos. Nachos with chicken please. 3 bucks add on for the chicken, no problem, and we get a plate with beautiful multicolored corn chips, yay, looking good!! ......Oh.... That someone dumped canned sliced olives, a huge hand full of chopped red onions, some canned black beans, poured some Sams Club cheese sauce on, sprinkled some seasoning and tossed on top, a microwaved a tiny frozen chicken breast that was hard and dried out enough to patch shoe leather with. Couldn't even chew the chicken, and I tried. I ended up having to tell the waitress the chicken was inedible and just remove it from the bill please. What a colossal dissapointment, just wow. If you care so little about serving a decent item, then just remove it from your menu, don't serve something you obviously don't care anything about or have any pride in. All in all it was an okay trip. Being as we live 3 hours away it's a place I can say we'll likely never retrun to ABC, and if a trip to Gettysburg ever comes up in conversation sadly the first thing that will be said is oh ABC? remember those horrible nachos with the nuked to death chicken on it :/...
Read moreWe were coming into town for the night To stay for 2 days and tour the local attractions. We'd been on the road for about 5 hours from New York City headed west. I pulled this place up cuz it had tremendous reviews and seemed to be pretty popular. When we got there the outdoor seating was phenomenal. I really liked how they had tables under trees and outdoor lighting. Kind of like old times tavern.
While inside the place was rather large and clean. Looks to be fairly new.
My issue is that online and on their website they say that they close at 10:00 p. They didn't mention anything about the kitchen closing at 9:00.
The door has a sign that mentions this, of course, we already parked and got Our infant son out of the car. Diaper bags were on our backs, and headed in.
The entire experience was probably not the most positive as a result. The hostess was quick to almost kick us out the door. It was 8:50. She then sat us at a high-top table, even though we had an infant in a car seat. It just wouldn't work, and we had to be moved.
When we finally got seated. We were rushed. Here are your menus. Hurry up and order.
I sometimes like to sit down any during road trips to kind of decompress and unwind, But I can't say that we felt that way.
The of course we're out of a few things because they're kitchen was closing. My wife and I ordered some tea as we casually do when we're out and about. It was not good. Bottom of the barrel probably and I wound up feeling sick afterwards.
The waitress who served us was very nice to be fair. I don't feel that she is annoyed by the situation, Even though she probably was.
After all. We're the bad guys showing up so late.
The food was okay. We wound up splitting a dish as we've been doing on our trip. The fries were really good. The burger was average.
All in all, if we come back to Gettysburg we might give this place another chance, But judging by our experience we might not be back unfortunately.
However, this is a warning to other people out there that the kitchen does close at 9:00. There's not a way to report that on Google or TripAdvisor or...
Read moreI’ve always enjoyed visiting Appalachian Brewing Company, especially for its craft beer, which never disappoints. The recent collaboration beer, “Higher Calling,” is no exception—it’s fantastic. However, I’ve been let down a few times by the quality of food during their special events, and I think it’s worth sharing some constructive feedback.
During Oktoberfest, the themed dishes felt overpriced and underwhelming. Unfortunately, I had a similar experience tonight at the “Higher Calling” fundraiser for hurricane relief in Western North Carolina. I ordered the Carolina “Dawg,” and for $14, I expected something higher quality than a basic hotdog. While the small side of fries was fine, the hotdog itself was disappointing. At that price point, an all-beef hotdog with more thoughtfully curated toppings would have been a much better fit.
I think I’ve learned my lesson with the special menus—fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Going forward, I’ll stick to the regular menu, where the dishes are more reliable. The Mile High Meatloaf, for example, may not be extraordinary, but it’s a solid choice that I can count on.
I also want to mention a small issue with service during tonight’s event. When I asked the server about the availability of the “Higher Calling” beer, there was some confusion. They weren’t sure if it was available on draft or only in cans. Later, when I asked about purchasing some to-go, I was just directed to the cooler to figure it out myself. Thankfully, the bartender helped me find it, but it felt a bit disorganized.
Despite these issues, I’ll continue visiting Appalachian Brewing Company and enjoying what they do best. Just a word of caution: be mindful of the cost-to-value ratio on some of the special menu items. I’m hopeful future events will strike a better balance between price and quality, especially since the concept behind these fundraisers is...
