Food: I got a large mixed plate of the Kilauea and Honolulu chicken, with macaroni salad and fresh pineapple instead of rice, totalled out a little over $20 before tip with no drink. The value for the price you pay is definitely there as I had leftovers to heat up next day. The chicken is very good and has a nice bite to it, and the sauce has a nice consistency that isn't thick bordering on syrup, but isn't too thin to hold on to the chicken.
I did not care for the mac salad as it had a very thick, almost mac'n'cheese consistency with a heavy garlic flavor to it, and I found myself missing the raw carrots that typically are included to give a nice crunch.
Service: Leslie was incredibly helpful after I explained that I had never been in before and made sure to fully explain the menu in meticulous detail, even knowing exactly the size of the portions, what's included, and your options for mix plates and substitutions. I was very impressed with her knowledge and attention to detail and want to make sure she's recognized for that.
Atmosphere: What can I say other than it's another modern restaurant that feels like the interior of a gift shop at an airport. The interior is very clean, almost sterile, so if you need a place to get food on your lunch break I can definitely see eating here instead of the employee lunch room, but if I was looking for some place to sit down and have lunch on a weekend it's a hard sell. This is entirely personal preference though so do with that what you will, but this is definitely more of a take out place to me.
Feedback: Please change the macaroni salad. It's the one thing keeping me from coming back as I do like the menu overall, but having a macaroni salad that is light, vinegary, and crunchy goes a long way to break up the savory menu that is mostly sauced chicken and soft rice. You have carrots in the seasoned veggies, I'll forgive you for not even shredding them if you just fix...
Read moreTook 25 minutes for wife to pick up door dash order and received someone else’s order. This was after the second phone call. Was told they did not have spam masubi and was told to pretty much just take it and be happy the customer got something. The time was 0230/2:30 am, the guy at drive through window said he was yelling for her that the order was ready. It is Arizona the windows on vehicle were up with a/c running how is anybody going to hear anybody yelling from the drive through window. We were parked (beside spot #4) in front by the mobile pick up parking. After going back through the drive up window to get the order the guy said we are closed and slammed the window and locked it. Why the attitude from an employee this does not reflect well on the business. I would not recommend this eatery to get anything but attitude especially from this particular guy this morning.
I honestly do not like posting bad reviews but when it comes to something like this, it really needs to be said so others and the business knows what is going on.
UPDATE:
I was talking to another dasher I know the other night and they told me the experience they had with Hawaiian Bros was totally different from the night my wife was there. That tells me that management is stepping in to take control of the business and having it run the way it is supposed to be run. The person I spoke to said Hawaiian Bros was better organized and taking dashers names and having them wait at the window for the order. That being said we will see if the wife has to go back through and see if it is better or if it was...
Read moreHawaiian Bros Island Grill is a welcome addition to the small number of Hawaiian spots in the west valley. We enjoyed the food and fast service.
When entering, you can either order at the manned register or choose to help yourself with one of the self checkout stations. We got help for our first time, but would probably do self check next time. Note that the restaurant is small (36 seats), so if it is “as busy as it gets” then that probably means you will either be trolling for a table or taking your food to go. There is also a drive thru and a nice outdoor seating area. They serve Pepsi products, which was a negative for us, but they also had STUBBORN root beer and cream soda, which was a plus.
The meals come in small (4 oz), Classic, (8 oz), and large (12 oz) sizes. We found that the Classic size was perfect. The entree is served with rice (lots) and Hawaiian pasta salad. My wife and I saw that the Molokai chicken was a spicy selection and chose that over the teriyaki. The entree was big, tender chunks of chicken with just a little bit of spice. I put a little teriyaki sauce on mine but my wife preferred hers as is. My wife also swapped the pasta for veggies. Both of us enjoyed our meals and would come back again. Two meals and large drinks...
