Absolutely fantastic everything. Me and the Ms both had El burro cocktails, nice lil tequila mules, basic and tasty.
We started with 2 deviled eggs, and the fried beets. Girlyfriend had the eggs and enjoyed them, I'm not a fan but she says 8/10. The BEETS though tasted super fresh, the crisp on them was perfect, and they had a little sweet note at the end which I assume was the sauce on the plate. One of my favorite apps, done absolutely phenomenally, 9/10.
I got an oyster which was so very good and incredibly fresh for being served deep in the mountains. Oysters is oysters man, not much to say, the presentation was nice, it was worth it. Fairly cheap too! 7.5/10
Pomegranate Glazed Lamb Pork Belly. Mi amor. Hot damn 10/10. The mixture of everything on the plate created such a balanced, but hugely rich and savory bite. Again 10/10/10/10
The pierogi's were good! Definitely eating them with the creme fraiche made it a more unique flavor, but honestly they didn't blow me away. I love a basic potato pierogi with some caramelized onions, and I expected an elevated version of this. However the glaze or sauce on top tasted like truffle oil and little else. Again the creme in the center gave it a more well rounded flavor, and we ate everything. Just a bit underwhelmed, especially given how impressed I was with literally everything else! 4.8/10
And the main dish, the scallops, an absolute win. I get scallops wherever they are available, quite literally my favorite food by a long shot. I asked our waiter if she recommended them, and she said most of the staff would agree they are very good. I was not disappointed in the slightest, perfect little golden brown roasted sea marshmallows hot freaking damn. I had one scallop on its own, and by itself it could have been its own entree. Perfect size, perfect temp, and so so so so so so fresh. The pealof or whatever was underneath and the lil crispy bits just added another level to an already amazing dish, the actual ingredients being totally lost on me given my infatuation with the scallops themselves. 9/10
It was the GFS bday, our waiter comped our dessert. The pistachio tiramisu was fantastic, good size portion too! 8/10
The dude who helped us initially was super nice, and I forget her name, blonde waitress w bangs and tattoos and glasses was super friendly and informative.
Please go here when you visit Glenwood, I was literally trying to BALL the fuck out and get like, a bunch of stuff and the bill ended up being extremely...
Read moreI was surprised to see an extra 3.5% service fee added on to the final bill. I asked our waitress about this and she brought out the manager. The manager said this was so they could pay the kitchen staff a living wage and offered to waive it.
I said that would be great. I told him I have a philosophical issue with being charged an additional % fee on the meal total for them to pay their kitchen staff. This practice feels deceptive.
The manager then attempt to make me feel bad that the restaurant has decided to not pay their kitchen staff a living wage. He stated that without this fee 3.5% fee they would have to charge $29 for a hamburger instead of the $20 they currently list as the price.
3.5% of $20 is $.7 so they are currently charging $20.70 for the hamburger that is listed on the menu for $20. Instead of listing the burger at $20.70 they add $.70 for the kitchen staff at the bill at the end.
I’m totally ok with the $.70.. no big deal. I am all for paying the kitchen staff well. It just seems like it would be much more transparent to list the actual price instead of having fine print in the bottom of the menu that says there are additional fees that can be waived upon request.
Again this is mostly a philosophical issues and feeling deceived by the pricing. I ordered the special and didn’t ask how much it would be because it’s really not that important. The issue I have is it feels like they are lying about the cost of their food based off the price they listed on the menu.
Perhaps it would have been a much more productive response for the manager to simply acknowledge my concern instead of trying to shame me for questioning an additional service fee they have hidden in the fine print at the bottom of the menu where they also state this is optional and can be waived upon request.
Providing a smug response that attempts to make me feel bad is counterproductive and reinforces the feeling of deceptive pricing.
When my wife was a serve she would typically share tips with the kitchen staff. Since this restaurant has a separate built it service fee for the kitchen staff, perhaps a way to handle this would be to take the 3.5% off the tip but I was hesitant to do that as our waitress did a...
Read moreCame for a nice dinner during a weekend getaway from Denver.
I was very happy to get a reservation at 4:30pm as the restaurant was completely booked on Saturday night (a great sign to start)
The Pullman is easy to get to with street parking nearby. The host and hostess were very friendly and got us seated.
We were very lucky to have Bridget R. as our server. She did an incredible job of taking care of us from start to finish. We appreciated her suggestions for food and drinks.
To start I had the house oldy with Woody Creek, bitters and pistachio. It was well mixed and I'd even for an extra shot of bourbon next time. For appetizers we tried the foie grad creme brulee with toasted bread. My wife really loved it. I thought it was good and enjoyed the pear compote served alongside. It is very rich and something I have not seen before. They also had a scallop appetizer special which was divine. It was cooked perfectly and served in the scallop shell. I even took some of the salt the shell rested on to add more flavor- yum!
For entrees my wife had the elk Bolognese with ricotta dumplings, fennel, balsamic vinegar and parm. The dumplings were light and fluffy without falling apart and cooked perfectly. The elk bolognese was not gamy and seasoned very well. This is something I would go back for time and time again.
My entrée was a special steak cooked medium (chef's suggestion) with sweet potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, a miso butter and marinated in sake (I believe but can't recall exactly) The server recommended this and it was SO worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly and everything was in harmony. Would definitely get this again.
We were too full for dessert but the offerings looked fantastic.
Will definitely book the Pullman the next time we venture to...
