Read moreIt was my mistake for not digging deeper into the reviews. I was in much need of a relaxing weekend, and thought a hot springs resort would be the ticket.
This isn't a hot springs resort. It's a mediocre hotel across the street from a warm public hot springs pool. The fact that the pool wasn't in some way connected to the hotel was a hassle. This information isn't forthcoming on the website, but I didn't dig deep enough I suppose.
Spent over $800 in total for the weekend and left feeling like I had wasted my money. The hotel itself is dated and getting run down. The employees were all very pleasant and accommodating, so this has nothing to do with them.
Here are some of my issues, which wouldn't be so much of an issue had I not spent so much on 2 nights to stay. We got the "wellness" package that included access to the hot springs and fitness center, "spa" products, and robes (not to keep):
-Every visit to the hot springs pool involved trudging outside and down a hill and around to the public entrance of the hot springs pool. This was especially annoying when it was blowing freezing wind. The return was a "private hotel exit" but amounted to an outdoor unlit staircase. We dried off as much as possible and wore our robes + warm gear and it was still a freezing trudge. There was one night the wind was rough, and we wanted to go, but looked outside and just decided it wasn't worth it.
-The pool closes at 9PM. By the time you finish your day and dinner and want to relax in the pool, it's closing. This includes the sauna and hot tub inside the fitness center. There is no hot tub or sauna or amenities at the hotel. The pool was warm and nice but I would have wanted it hotter. The "hotter" pool was small and indistinguishable from a large hot tub any resort would have. It was also always packed.
-The "spa" products were typical hotel bathroom products. The same that everyone who stays there gets. Making this sound like some kind of perk of the "wellness" package is false advertising.
-The hotel is dated and offers no room service beyond basics that a Motel 6 would provide.
-The "continental" breakfast at the grill was pathetic. I saw they had a griddle/grill going, and asked for 2 eggs scrambled and bacon. I was informed that they don't have eggs, just frozen egg patties meant to be put on breakfast sandwiches. Bleh. I understand times are tough and corners need to be cut, but this is just sad. Other options were cheap packaged pastries and items you would find at a public school cafeteria breakfast. Not many healthy options, if at all. No coffee beyond gas station quality stuff.
-Bed didn't have blankets, and none were in the room.
-Fitness center was run of the mill but also dated.
Overall it was fine, nothing horrible, but just not worth the price. I felt somewhat swindled given the information above and wouldn't return, nor would I recommend it to...
