Glenwood Springs has been our destination for a day trip for quite sometime (we live in Palisade, CO) - perfect getaway for a day worth of soaking followed by a good dinner. Town offers a variety of really good restaurants and this one might just be my most favorite after our visit on Wednesday. We went on a double date with our friends. Drinks, food and service were superb. Very quick and attentive service. I had a Colorado Wildflower Cocktail with Tequila and Raspberry Purée which was very well balanced in flavor, fruity and with a bit of a kick and also 5 spice Duck Leg Confit which was amazing - with pistachio rice and the sauce that was sweet and tangy and complemented the duck so well- right up my alley! So many different flavors that all came together in such wonderful ensemble! My partner had Beef Wellington the presentation of which was a piece of art and it was cooked to perfection. Our friends had a lasagna that was to die for and also a salad with a steak that looked fresh and crisp! I found the menu to be very intriguing with so many interesting options. And! “Get a round for the kitchen” item - now this has to be on the menu at every restaurant in the country. We work in the F&B industry and to see that you have a reminder to think about kitchen staff and get them something to spark up their routine and hard effort - that was awesome! So if you come here please make sure you put that in as part of your order - they work really hard for you in the back. Now, few things that were a bit disappointing although I’m not going to knock stars off for these but just wanted to bring it to attention: Flowers on the tables. Most of them looked sad and dried out and it was on the first night of the week. I feel like if you do want to have fresh flowers at your establishment you should make sure they look fresh and change water in the vases. Otherwise just get dry compositions that would be very suitable for fall and winter season and would require less maintenance. Lighting. Table we sat at was too dim for our liking and I would’ve liked to see wonderful dishes we ordered in a clearer way. Although some other tables had enough light from what it seemed like and all together it seemed like a very cozy space! Bathroom. It was not very tidy and didn’t look like it belonged in such an establishment.
All in all, we loved it and for sure will be back to try other items on the menu! Lorna, you were such a doll! Very professional yet casually friendly. Thank you so much for...
Read moreWe never got to try the food — but we certainly got a taste of the hospitality.
We arrived at Riviera Supper Club hoping for a great meal based on all the positive reviews, only to be met with a cold shoulder and a chaotic front-of-house experience that left us feeling more like a nuisance than a guest.
When we walked in, we were promptly (and brusquely) asked whether we had a reservation. We didn’t — we were just passing through from Utah and hadn’t realized this place required one. The party in front of us hadn’t either. The hostess told both of us she’d “have to check with the chef” before deciding if we could be seated.
While we waited, we couldn’t help but notice at least ten open tables inside. Were they all reserved for a rush of guests arriving simultaneously later in the night? If so, it was a ghostly quiet buildup.
As we stood there, my partner was warned to “watch himself” because the bartender was restocking the service bar — which is inconveniently located right next to the entrance and the hostess stand. A server trying to carry food through the same tight space nearly ran into us. It was a mess, and even the server knew it and apologized. Not exactly a welcoming or well-planned entrance flow.
Eventually, the hostess returned with the chef’s answer: no table for us — not for another 90 minutes. I asked if we could just sit at the bar instead. Her response? No food at the bar. Drinks only.
We decided to grab a drink anyway (regrettably). My lavender lemonade was more water than lemonade. My partner ordered a vodka martini — not hard to execute — and it was fine. The bartender was kind but clearly flustered, though again, the room was mostly empty.
While we sipped, we watched other bar guests — who had arrived after us — get served food. We paid and left.
Here’s the thing: dining out is more than just food. It’s about feeling welcome. It’s about hospitality. People work hard for their money and choose carefully where to spend it. Based on other reviews, the food might be great. But we’ll never know. Riviera Supper Club made it abundantly clear they weren’t interested in our business that night.
if you’re in the hospitality industry but can’t be bothered to extend even basic courtesy to guests, maybe it’s time to rethink whether or not the...
Read moreThe Riviera Supper Club and Scratch Kitchen stands apart from any other Western Colorado restaurant in many wonderous ways. This is a fine dining establishment not by way of elegant aesthetic or unreasonably high price point, but simply as a byproduct of quality ingredients being prepared at such a high caliber of proficiency. The entire vibe and atmosphere matches this point, toeing the line remarkably well between classy and unpretentious. Suit jackets and high heels dine comfortably next to tee-shirts and sneakers here.
This is as accessible and inclusive as high-end eating gets. Indeed the very nature of running a true one hundred percent scratch kitchen enhances this fact. Everything from the sausage to the pesto and ketchup is prepared fresh by the talented chef and his crew. This allows more adaptability for components to be shifted or altered to accommodate dietary restrictions. If members of your party are wary of "fancy-pants food," they can salivate over one of the best sandwiches they've ever eaten while you enjoy your five spiced duck confit. Inclusivity is the name of the game at The Riv, as they intrinsically know that the art of great food is meant to be shared with all who wish to celebrate it.
The front of house is run with a precision usually only reserved for Michelin adjacent establishments. Servers are always laser focused, exceedingly knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. Craft cocktails are competent, but the real star of the show here is the vino. There is quite simply no better wine program by the glass or bottle within a two hundred mile radius. The fact that The Riviera has maintained this level of consistency for so many years across all aspects of its dining experience is no short of otherworldly. It isn't just the best Restaurant in Glenwood Springs, it is one of the best places you will ever eat period. Long...
