TLDR: Clean rooms, generally quiet atmosphere/guests. Your basic generic hotel. It's cheap and simple, but still a nice hotel. Would stay here again.
The front desk staff are very pleasant, as is the breakfast room staff and the maintenance/custodial staff.
Breakfast (6-9 am) is all carbs (muffins, toast, bagels, cereal), but they do have a waffle maker, which is nice. Bananas and oranges daily. Kids yogurts, and hard boiled eggs. Coffee in the breakfast room is basic drip coffee (kinda bitter), but they have half and half, creamer, and a hot cocoa/latte machine you can use to mix in if you want. It's passable if you're not picky about your coffee.
If it's winter and you can, pay the little extra for a gas fireplace in your room. It's totally worth it. For couples, the added space in those rooms is also great, and the fireplace is nice and romantic.
In-room amenities:
The coffee maker is a basic drop coffee maker. The coffee itself is just little pouch style packs you can pick up from the front desk daily (which is admittedly odd... I'm not sure why room service doesn't restock coffee and basic items like that for you, but it's not a big deal).
The microwave in our room was a little lower powered than expected (many of our meals needed heated longer than they were supposed to, popcorn didn't pop as fast as it should, so you risked burning it trying to guess how much longer it needed, that kind of thing).
The refrigerator was also set a little too cold, and all our food froze solid. But it worked out because of what we had to eat, but I'd recommend the hotel staff take a look at the fridge. It was missing a few of the door racks anyway... Not in great condition.
The king bed was very comfortable. Pillows were firm and not cheap or flimsy, which is what I prefer. Bed was clean, carpets were clean. The style of the room is a little old, but not unpleasant.
The TV worked well. It was a smart TV, so it had some added options.
The heater worked, but the room isn't sealed well (especially around the heater itself), so it turned off and on a lot. Not really that annoying unless you're a light sleeper. The gas fireplace comes in handy to warm the room as well.
Bath tub with jacuzzi worked well. It was a little louder than I expected, but that might be normal?
If you're a couple, save yourself the trouble and ask for additional towels at the start.
Despite being slightly further away from the hot springs and such, the distance is negligible, and Silver Spruce is close to enough to the bike path to get around without a car. It's very close to the Adventure park, and you can get a discount at the Yampah Spa and Iron Mountain Hot Springs from the front desk.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Silver Spruce Inn feels like a couple steps up from the nearby Starlight Lodge, which is comparable in price. We've stayed at both, and definitely enjoyed the room at Silver...
Read moreI must start off by saying the moment we walked in, we were extremely uncomfortable by the service desk help in general. She greeted us sitting at a table in the lobby, leaning on one elbow, and proceeded to converse from the table.... As we discussed prices and rooms, she kept saying she was going to give us the "like it or not like it room, and that we looked like folks that would enjoy the privacy room in the corner".... My mom asked if they took AARP, and she chuckled and told us it depended on if she gave us a good deal or not a good deal, and that she had given us a good deal and moved on. Our mistake, we proceeded with getting the room. When we arrived to the room, we were disappointed. The air conditioner was hanging from the wall, the toilet paper in the bathroom was practically empty, and the bed sheets were untucked from the mattress, and the pillows were flat and most of the cotton was on one side. We actually found ourselves looking for bed bugs.... My mom had sat on the bed and it was visibly slanted. We found ourselves at the front desk again letting her know we weren't comfortable with the room and that the bed was visibly slanted, and she got angry with us, so I asked for a refund. She said we must have got her "not like it" room and that she had to send someone up to the room to make sure it wasn't dirty before we could talk refunds. She actually told us that the bed must have been slanted from our togetherness.... WTF.... I said, that's my mom, and her response was, "that doesn't matter"... She continued to check in two more people as we stood awkwardly at the front desk. She received a phone call and all she said into the phone was, "dirty, ya.. dirty?"..... She hung up the phone and told us, sorry the room was dirty. We literally checked in 15 minutes ago I argued! I even told her to walk up to the room and look at it herself, and she said she couldn't walk up the stairs. I obviously said we were even more uncomfortable with the whole situation and we just wanted to leave. She told us that she would refund us something after she decides what she wanted to keep.... I responded with conviction that was unacceptable, and that we wanted a full a refund and we wanted to leave. In the end we received our refund and we left....
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this motel. I did only see the one room we were given of course, But it was unacceptable. The customer service was uncomfortable and harassing, and I would hope that no one else would ever be put in that...
Read moreThe room upgrades were a huge improvement. I use this hotel a few times per year. Except today on 3/29/18. We were in 2 different rooms. Room 1 the shower head was so bad you couldn't wash the soap off your body and defiantly not out of your hair. The mini fridge was broken and the heater / air conditioner smelled and either was way to hot or way to cold.
Room 2 similar issues with the shower head room conditions were nice but... hotel owner's had working staff living directly under us on the bottom floor and complained non stop of loud foot steps. The working staff spent most of there time sitting outside there door smoking. Same employees also played loud music at 2am and NOTHING was done about that.
When we complained in the morning to the owners the female was somewhat apologetic but was making EVERY excuse " who, what, whare, when and why". The Male owner was getting very upset and was basically blaming us [paying customers who have the right to voice there issues] and said " we have spent 650 thousand dollars upgrading the rooms and we have been votes best over the last 20 years".
I stated we not complaining about the room conditions itself we are complaining about the small things that didn't work and the obnoxious employees in the room below that complained over footsteps but they were allowed to do what they want to do and smoke and play loud music at 2am.
Owners 100% stuck up for there staff and made it out to be our fault. This was not Ok nor fair as paying customers. I would normally give this place 4 stars but they earned 2 today at best. I hope this helps anyone who reads this. I have been using this hotel for the past 38 years and it's the first time I complained here. To the owners we are paying customers and have this right to complain and if we had issues were telling you what they are so you can fix them for others to not have these issues. The Male owner don't get so pissed and defensive I never raised my voice I spoke to you nicely and stated my concern about...
