Our stay at Hotel 1888 at Glenwood Hot Springs was absolutely incredible! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the blend of historic charm and modern luxury. The hotel is set in the beautifully restored Stone Bath House, and you can feel the history in every detail while still enjoying all the comforts of a high-end boutique stay. The location couldn’t be better—you step right outside to the world’s largest hot springs pool, plus you get access to the Yampah Mineral Baths, Athletic Club, sauna, and hot tub. Our room was gorgeous, with tasteful décor, plush bedding, and thoughtful touches that made us feel completely at home. Special shoutout to Sarah at the front desk and Summer at the 1888 Bistro—both went above and beyond to make our stay feel warm and welcoming. The complimentary breakfast at the Bistro was fresh, delicious, and a perfect start to each day. One small suggestion for an even better experience would be to consider offering extended hot springs access—either opening a little earlier in the morning or staying open later in the evening—for hotel guests. A peaceful sunrise soak or a relaxing nighttime swim would make this magical place even more unforgettable. If you’re visiting Glenwood Springs, you simply can’t beat the combination of history, relaxation, and location that Hotel 1888 offers. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Hate to report that whoever runs this place did not do a great job of making a hospital place. This place has 5 star potential - the building and furniture is top notch. The hot springs is awesome. The athletic club is nice too. We stayed in one of the nicest rooms - the titular room 1888 and it’s beautiful and spacious. Nothing bad to say about the service except for a housekeeping staff barging into our room 9am without knocking. The bad: 1. Parking. There are 12 regular parking spaces, 2 check-in only spaces and countless handicap spaces. That should be plenty of spaces for guests of 1888 to park since there are only 16 rooms. But no. For whatever reason, the hotel doesn’t specify that these spaces RIGHT IN FRONT OF the hotel is for hotel guests only - they are for everyone. Obviously their prerogative, but makes 0 sense for high paying hotel guests. 2. Breakfast. For a hotel of this caliber, the breakfast is a joke. No oatmeal or hot or cold cereal of any kind. Not many options at all really. The place is extremely busy and I guess have no reason to try to improve.

The hotel claimed to be adults-only (21+), but this was not stated anywhere in the listing or policies—only that the booking guest must be 21+, which is standard for most hotels. So we did have our two small children to their dismay. This should be clearly disclosed before booking. Our room was uncomfortably hot despite adjusting the thermostat, the TV didn’t work, and the bathroom was low on toiletries upon arrival. The view faced the parking lot, so cart lights frequently shone into the bathroom (which has no blind). We had to keep the bathroom door open due to the AC intake being there. Breakfast was nice and most staff were friendly, but the manager with the hat insisted the adults-only policy was listed—despite the attached photo showing otherwise. Overall, the lack of clear communication and basic maintenance issues made the stay disappointing due to the price point. The associate, Summer, was amazing and super helpful, providing restaurant recommendations to our young family.

Disappointed Stay at Hotel 1888 – Not Worth the Price I had high hopes for Hotel 1888 in Glenwood Springs, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to the price or expectations. We booked a King room at over $550 per night, and for that rate, I expected a more spacious room and a better overall experience. One of my biggest disappointments was the view from the room. Our main window faced the pool, which made me feel uncomfortable every time I looked outside. I don't understand why a pool-facing room is even an option at this price point. There was a window that faced the mountains, but it was placed so high that I had to either climb onto a chair to open it, or ask my boyfriend to do it for me—which really took away from enjoying what should have been a beautiful mountain view. To add to the frustration, on the first night we noticed that two ceiling panels weren't properly placed. We contacted the overnight staff, who told us it would be fixed the next day, but no one ever followed up or resolved it during our entire stay. The room itself was very small—basically just a bed and a bathroom, with little room to move around. Definitely not what I expected from a luxury-priced hotel. No room service, no luggage carts, and surprisingly, we couldn’t adjust our own air conditioning without a code, which the front desk didn’t seem to know how to provide. The design of the hotel seems to prioritize style over function. The chairs were beautiful, and the elevator that opens both ways on the same floor was a unique feature, but honestly felt unnecessarily extravagant compared to what the rooms lacked. The one saving grace was the front desk associate. He went above and beyond to help us—from carrying our bags himself, to offering fans, and giving us fantastic recommendations for places to eat and explore around town. His hospitality was the highlight of our stay. Overall, I left feeling very disappointed. If you're coming to Glenwood Springs, I’d honestly recommend Hotel Colorado next door instead. Their rooms are bigger, more affordable, and offer a better experience without the overhyped price tag. Hotel 1888 might look nice in photos, but it misses the mark where it...

Cons -

Parking-There are no designated parking spots for guests that stay at the hotel 1888. We had to drive around for about 5-10 mins to look for a spot before finding one and it was about a ten minute walk to the hotel from our parking spots. I highly suggest they figure out parking for guests. Especially considering the cost of the room.

Room temp- for some reason at different times the room temperature would rise up to 72-74 degrees and we weren't able to get the temperature back down. We had to call a couple of different times for them to fix it.

Size of room- the room size was pretty small. As it was stated in another review, there was just barely enough room to move around. Just enough room for the king bed and a small bathroom and just a shower, no tub. Also there wasn't a full length mirror in the room at all. The shampoo was empty, we called but it never got refilled.

Breakfast- For the price we paid, we kind of expected a bit nicer of a breakfast. It was basically quiche, bacon and a parfait yogurt. They also only had 4 tables for guests to sit with 16 rooms. We ended up eating in the athletic club at one of their tables. I'm not sure why the guests at hotel 1888 can't just go over to the lodge restaurant for breakfast?

Vending machines or room service would be nice for late night or early morning needs.

Pros- The concierges were very friendly and helpful. The place was really clean. The bed was comfortable. Being super close to the pool was convenient. There was a coffee/latte machine 24/7 which great!

Would we stay again,...

This place is way over priced, unless you like having to walk half a mile from the parking spot (no designated parking???), being hot at night, having bright lights light up your room at night, not be able to open 3/4 of the door, or not having breakfast because the pool is down for maintenance. Still can't figure out how pool maintenance affects the ability to have breakfast for your overnight stay, but don't worry, they will still charge you full price for the stay.

First night, thermostat doesn't work, but they have an after hours number, where no one picks up the phone after trying for 45 minutes. Thermostat kept turning back to 72 at random and heating yhe room back up. Then you have some device that is plugged into your phone with a BRIGHT blue light that lights up the entire room. Second night, get a different room that has the balacony, but the door lets light through from the bright pool lights (even though they close a 9PM), and there is no way to darken the room. Then they have pool maintenance that if you don't click on the roght pages, have no idea until they tell you a week before your trip. It was the day we left, so not a big deal, can't use before we leave. But the fact that breakfast isn't even available becauae the pool was down just blows my freakin mind. That's really the final straw. I would recommend just staying at the holiday inn down the street and just pay for the pool, will be cheaper overall and maybe the same experience, but at least it's not costing $600 a night. I will...
