My family took me to Smoke Modern BBQ for my birthday, which was around April 5, 2023. I have had many birthdays at your establishment and they have always been wonderful. This particular evening, not so much!
I live in Basalt and always went to the Smoke in Willits. I love the ribs and all the other meats. Especially love the brussels sprouts, however you did not have them or they were not offered.
My daughter , son-in-law and granddaughter came from Castle Rock to celebrate, my younger daughter and finance came, my husband and myself and another friend. We were seated at the front of the restaurant by the kitchen and all the goings on. Which I wouldn't even think anything of except that the restaurant was practically empty at that time. Our waitress knew it was my birthday and my husband made a joke when we ordered drinks and said does she get a birthday margarita. She didn't crack a smile just turned around and left to get the order. The food of course was delicious, but as I told you I did not get to have the brussels sprouts. I ordered a full rack of ribs so I could take some home. She never came back to refill water or ask if we wanted another drink. All the waitstaff was standing by the counter up front (which was a little uncomfortable, because it seamed like they were just looking our way while we were eating and it was apparent there was nothing for them to do). At the end of the meal, she never even asked if we wanted dessert, she had the ticket all totalled up and put it on the table. My granddaugher had picked out a dessert that she really wanted and was waiting to give the waitress her order. That was about the last straw when we had to leave with her so disappointed. Not that the waitress acknowledged a birthday dessert for me or anything like almost all upscale restuarants do.
I really thought you, the owner, should know about how your staff treats people at their discression. I get that she could have been having bad day, been in a bad mood, didn't want to be there or whatever. I have always beleved that if you work with the public, you need to put on a smile and be nice to everyone. If you can't do that, then go do something else.
Have been very upset about this since it happened and this is the first I have seen a section to write comments.
Thank you for listening! Sandi Spracher 304 Original...
Read moreThis experience was truly an unforgettable one. Originally, we were going to go to Grind for burgers, which we should have done. Smoke has a more extensive menu than Grind, so we chose Smoke. We go inside and sit at the bar. The bartender realizes her responsibility, throws her hands in the air, and sighs. Walks over and gives us menus and says she will bring water. Brings water, we order two of the pork ribs from the happy hour menu. Several minutes later, she brings out one semi-cool pork rib on hot Cole Slaw🤔. We ask for the other one and she makes a confused face, and goes to check her work in the computer. After realizing we were correct, she sends off for another one. It comes out, same temp as the other🤔. We then order the pepper blue burger with a glass of Malbec. Odd, yes, but we're on a two week road trip and luxuries are mixed therein. Several minutes later a food runner brings out two burgers with bacon, cheddar cheese, and huge onion rings on the burgers. We say to the bartender, "hey this is wrong, we ordered the pepper blue burgers". The bartender replies, "No, that's what those burgers are." To which we replied, "No ma'am, I'm sorry to have to point this out, but again this is not our order." She again checks her work in the computer to find that she put the wrong burgers in, says "oh sh**" and says you can keep your sides and the new burgers will be out in just a minute. She re orders the correct burgers. Now is the time I'd like to mention that throughout this whole ordeal, this bartender and the rest of the staff was more concerned about telling each other their lover troubles and bar stool woes, instead of reacting to us raising our hands, saying excuse me, and gestures of such nature over and over again. After this, we decide to just leave our untouched wine, and the poor atmosphere of Smoke. As we are leaving an elderly gentleman runs up to the window of our vehicle demanding we pay or he will have us arrested. So we did him one better and went back inside and ran down our horrid experience to the manager. After hearing the story, the manager THROWS HIS HANDS IN THE AIR AND AND SAYS BYE. Needless to say, we departed a second time.
All in all, eat here if you want to...
Read moreWe were in Glenwood for a birthday and decided to try this place. We were sadly disappointed. The hostess was nice and pleasant, however our sever Ruby, was everything but pleasant. We were given menus with two different prices and when we asked the server which ones were correct she said “obviously it’d be the higher one”. Not a problem, but no need to be condescending. We ordered fried pickles and southern fried okra, both of which were delicious! We were done with appetizers and our drinks by the time our server came back to take our order. She rushed through taking our order and we didn’t see her again for awhile. Someone else brought us refills and our food. We asked the person that brought our food what the draft selections were, they told us they didn’t know and we needed to ask our server. Our server could be seen at tables around us, but we were unable to get her attention to come to our table. Our food tasted fine, but the portion size for the price was pretty small. Our server finally showed up to drop the bill, which I asked her if we could split into two. She said we don’t split checks for parties over 6(we were a party of 7) I said ok no problem we’ll figure it out, at which point she decided to inform me “It was printed on the menu”. We then realized the 20% gratuity was also included. Which I wouldn’t normally have an issue with, but our service was severely lacking. I’m guessing since we were a guaranteed tip, that’s why the service wasn’t as good as the smaller tables around us. While I was calculating the bill into two, the server came over and told me just to tell her how much to put on what card. I told her that’s what I was calculating when she took the receipt from my hand, turned it over, and dropped a pen in front of me. I was over our dining experience at that point. We just put it on one card and asked for a manager. We paid our bill in full, including gratuity, but wanted to let them know our experience as first time visitors. We are frequent visitors to Glenwood and enjoying trying new places each time we are here, however we will most likely not be back to this place. We should’ve read the reviews beforehand and asked for Angie for...
