Excellent! BEST free breakfast buffet I have ever had at a hotel! I was so impressed! They even had a fountain drink coke machine! I was so happy to be able to wake up and drink a coke, as I am not a coffee person but I need caffeine! They have real eggs, which my husband was happy about. A lot of hotels have those nasty fake powder eggs. They have this really good sauce to go with the chips that my daughter was nuts over. Don’t know how to explain what it is, but hope they don’t ever get rid of it. Lots of people went up for seconds and I heard other people comment about how good it was, too. They also had salsa. Yes… at breakfast! They also had all the usual staples like fruit and yogurt, bagels, muffins, waffles, cereal, sausage, etc. Nice coffee selection and hot chocolate. I will say it again- breakfast is great! Just the breakfast alone was worth the stay here!
Location- great!!! Lots of things within walking distance! There is a Mexican restaurant literally next door, several other shops to wonder around if you feel like browsing (most not open in the evening) and several restaurants, bars and hot springs all within walking distance.
Take a walk a little farther past the hot springs and check out the Jamaican restaurant! Their wings were delicious and the waitress was super helpful and was willing to serve us even though we came in shortly before close.
The only downside to the hotel was the parking. The parking is free, but may be limited depending on time of day. We came in around 7:30 PM and were able to get a spot without a wait, but I noticed after we came back from walking around town a little after 10 PM that the parking lot looked completely packed. If you arrive too late on the weekend when they tend to be busy, it may be hard to find a parking spot.
The rooms were typical of most LaQuinta hotels, the bathrooms were a little smaller than typical. The beds were comfortable. However, pillows could be better. They should replace those with softer and fluffier ones. The rooms were clean and no odors. We had a nice view of the mountains from our window. We stayed in room 331 and I didn’t hear anyone or notice the walls being thin. We slept well.
The pool is very small and is probably more for lounging than swimming- it is small and only 4 foot at the deepest part. Kids still enjoyed it, but it was way too crowded at night. We were able to enjoy the pool in the morning before we left, though. We did have to get an employee to let us in the pool, because the card didn’t work. The employee said it was because we were checking out the same day. My husband and son used the workout room (right beside the pool) and it was decent and had a water dispenser and cups, which was nice after a workout.
Pros: Wonderful breakfast Great location Nice view of the mountains from hotel Reasonable price Comfortable beds Decent gym Indoor pool and hot tub Inside of hotel very nice with tall coffered ceilings with fireplace in the entry and lots of seating for either lounging or breakfast Clean!
Cons: Parking limited Indoor Pool VERY small (4 foot max) Bathrooms very small Pillows not the best Dim florescent type lighting in the hallways- suggestion for the hotel: if you change it to warm bulbs instead of the white cool bulbs, it will feel nicer and will have more of an intimate glow. The white light at hotels just has a creepy feel in my opinion. Elevator to the gym and pool was broken, so had to use the employee elevator. It was very rickety and make a lot of noise.
Overall, this was the nicest LaQuinta I have ever been to. It felt several steps up from most LaQuinta Hotels- closer to a Marriott. I will give it 4 and half stars because of limited parking and broken elevator. However, since I can’t do a half star, will go ahead and bump it up to 5 stars on account of the fabulous breakfast, coke machine, and great...
Read moreMy experience with this hotel and Wydham in general is disappointing. On Tuesday evening, I ordered the room in which I stayed for two nights from the previous week with a friend, because I forgot the shower gel in the bathroom as well. I was told on the phone that the room was ready for me. They charged me a $229 reservation fee. I don't understand why I was charged 248 dollars when I arrived at the hotel so from my bank there was over 400 dollars on the way to this company for one room that means two payments. The lady told me that the room I ordered on the phone is not possible because someone is staying there, after about three minutes she told me that the same room is being prepared for me, so I will stay there, but she has to charge me another 16 dollars if I want it . I told the lady that I had also booked the room because I forgot the shower gel in the bathroom. She replied that the shower gel was with the cleaning staff. However, they did not return it to me. When I talked to the lady at the reception the next morning and tried to explain to her that I didn't understand why they were charging me twice and adding one more, she gave me the same answer as if on tape. In the evening after returning to the hotel, I could not get to the room because my cards from the room did not work and I had to ask the reception again why they did not work, I was not answered. They were probably blocked by the lady I spoke to in the morning about the whole problem. The lady who started the shift updated them for me so I could go to the room for things. I have decided not to stay at the hotel for the second night after this experience and will not be staying at this hotel again. And I'm not talking about the elevator, which in my opinion is dangerous for guests. The coffee at the reception was cold in the morning. Egg scones, which I've noticed here in the US, no one can make. The eggs are dried, they probably don't know how to properly prepare scrambled eggs here and what they should look like. This kind of service and approach is very overpriced for how it is presented and I consider it enrichment and lies, insincere and unfair dealings. I still haven't been refunded the booking fee. It still shows on my bank that it is on its way to the hotel or the owners of the hotel Wydham. Meanwhile, at the reception desk, the receptionists were showing me and convincing me that the reservation fee that was charged to me was actually not charged to me. But the money is...
Read moreWe stayed at La Quinta for 7 nights in Dec 2024. We stayed here for one night in May 2024, liked it, and decided to return. I am giving 5 stars for our room, the service from the Front Desk, and the location of the hotel. The daily hot breakfast was delightful, with lots of choices. All the ladies at the Front Desk were fantastic (more on this later). The location of this hotel is also fantastic. We did not have a car, so we took the FREE buses daily to get around town. The "Ride Glenwood" (RG) bus heading into town stops in front of the hotel . . . very convenient. For the return trip, the RG bus stops across the street near the Best Western hotel (also very convenient). La Quinta is a 10-minute walk to Glenwood Hot Springs and the Amtrak station. We loved La Quinta, so why did I give it a 3-star rating? It has to do with their annoying "pet-friendly" policy. As mentioned earlier, we stayed here for 7 nights and EVERY NIGHT we had to suffer through HOURS of non-stop barking by dogs. We were on the 4th floor, with our TV on and the door closed, but we could still hear barking coming from the first floor! HOURS of NON-STOP barking. One night, a large husky (dog) was running around loose on our floor . . . the owners just left their dog unattended by the ice machine. It jumped on me and I had to ask another guest to get it off of me. Then it wandered down the hall. As I was walking towards our room, the dog turned and decided to chase me. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I called the Front Desk and reported the incident. I would like to give the ladies at the Front Desk TEN stars for how they dealt with the loose husky and one of the barking dogs. I would love it if La Quinta management would consider NOT allowing dogs into the hotel, especially if most owners are just going to leave their barking dogs unattended in their rooms. UPDATE (1/10/2025): after our vacation, I noticed a mysterious charge of $10 on my credit card. I called La Quinta and was asked if I had purchased anything in their little market (NO). She practically implied that I was lying, and reluctantly agreed to process the refund. Days passed, but I did not see the refund. I called again and was told that the refund had been processed. More days passed . . . still no refund. I finally got tired of dealing with these incompetent employees and have contacted my credit card company. For this reason, I dropped the hotel's "service" rating down...
