My roommate and I decided to attend the x games in aspen this year, we needed a place that allowed dogs to stay so we would avoid a 3 hour drive each way in the middle of the night in January.
We arrived Thursday evening and the woman that helped us was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable. This 1 star review has nothing to do with her she was exceptional.
We walked the dogs, and headed out the door to get up before the evening was over since we had a 45 min drive ahead of us to arrive.
We got back around 11pm and the same girl that checked me in was still there. Somehow my dog managed to jump up and semi lock the door from the inside. She was very kind about it and gave us new keys thinking we maybe deactivated the first pair being close to my phone, didn’t work. Walk back in 10 degrees to the office and she resets our keys to see if that works again, didn’t work. We asked her if maybe that was possible that the dog locked us out. She said they had a tool to help us if that happened and looked around for it, she didn’t see it and let us know a supervisor would be able to be called and help us.
This is where everything goes wrong, she was just about to leave door as her shift was done. So we walk back with the new keys and surprise, the did not work.
The man that had taken over for her, unfortunately I missed his name, but he was working the overnight shift starting Thursday 1/23/25 night. I noticed he was looking at my roommate and I oddly and maybe with a bit of judgement. Cannot figure out why he would, we are clean, in our early 30s and dressed well. So idk what the problem would be that he would interact like that.
He had absolutely NO CONCERN that our belongings, valuables, and dogs were in there. His only solution was to wait to the morning when someone would be in to help us get in.
I accepted that this was our fault since my dog caused this. So I tell him can you leave a note if they don’t get ahold of me that one of my dogs is a new rescue and she sometimes will bolt out the door and I didn’t want this to happen. Gave me the dirtiest look and asked if I had A CREDIT CARD ON FILE in case of damages. ARE YOU JOKING ME? You’re worried about that right now? Yes I have a damn credit card on file. I’m worried about my dogs well being right now, I understand I am responsible for damages that may have occurred. Both my dogs are extremely well behaved and do not rip things up and are fully potty trained. So thank you for this already exhausting and extremely stressful moment for my roommate and I, I’m glad your only concern is a credit card.
I was able to get my dog to unlock the door while i was outside and was able to get in around 12:30am. My roommate walked the keys to the other room back and let him know we were able to get into our room and we didn’t touch anything in the other room. Still no hospitality, just an “ok” no sympathy that we were exhausted from a long drive and in the freezing cold trying to fix the situation.
To be clear, the room was in the exact order we walked into when we checked in. My dogs were perfectly fine and hadn’t gone potty or ruined anything in the room.
Absolutely the worst attitude I’ve ever received from a hotel staff.
Another note worthy thing to be aware of is the walls are absolutely paper thin, we could here our neighbors talking until 2am and they were not being loud, you can literally hear a normal toned conversation through these walls. But in the morning they were so extremely loud screaming outside the door at 9am and we were still exhausted from the night before we were trying to get as much sleep as possible before taking off. I was just about to get up and say something but they left before I could get dressed.
There is a holiday inn down the street and a few other options that are dog friendly as well that I will 100% be giving my business to next time I’m in Glenwood springs. I will not be returning here solely based on my interaction with you the employee. The paper thin walls didn’t even bother...
Read moreI recently had a delightful stay at a charming hotel that truly went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. From the start, they honored my request for a Mountain View room, and they were incredibly welcoming to my service dog. The spacious and impeccably clean room featured an unbelievably comfortable bed, a soothing bathtub, and a separate toilet area, which made for a pleasant experience.
One of the highlights was enjoying the inviting fire pits and the relaxing natural spring water spa. Every morning began with a delicious breakfast that left me dreaming of those banana nut waffles! And let’s not forget the free parking—it was a wonderful perk for this lovely 3-4 star mountain retreat.
The location couldn’t have been better—conveniently situated near an adventure park, Hot Springs, and downtown. The front desk staff provided an excellent list of dog-friendly activities, perfect for hiking and river swims. The team was friendly and attentive, though I did encounter a few hiccups during my stay.
now for the downsides because there’s a downside to absolutely everything and that doesn’t mean this is a bad hotel: There wasn’t a "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door, but I did have my service dog in the room, which I suspect led to housekeeping skipping my room. I also found the bedding lacking—a thin microfiber comforter and no middle blanket made for chilly nights. I had packed my own sheets, but I hadn’t anticipated needing to bring a blanket as well! As usual, my tendency to overpack didn’t quite serve me this time; I brought enough for a month, but only stayed for two days! 😆
The pool closed at 10 PM, which turned out to be a bit of a bummer since everything else in town shuts down, and I just wanted to unwind in the hot tub after dinner. Plus, the grassy areas had sprinklers running all night, long that transformed them into muddy swamps, ruining a pair of my favorite shoes and socks. I hate when people do this. It’s bad for the grass, the planet and me just trying to walk by on the sidewalk without getting soaked. This is a major issue everywhere.
Now, a word about accessibility: there are steep stairs and ramps, but no elevators, which could pose challenges for guests with mobility issues were people who cannot carry heavy bags, upstairs. The wheelchair ramp was particularly steep, I could feel my calves burning just trying to go up and I can’t imagine somebody in a wheelchair attempting that. definitely something the hotel should reconsider for safety. I experienced a few heart-stopping moments dashing down those stairs at night, narrowly avoiding a faceplant as I managed to catch myself on the bumper of a parked car.
For the love of all that is good, please paint those curbs yellow with reflective paint before someone gets hurt! I’m pretty sure it’s actually legally required and I genuinely appreciate this hotel and want it to thrive.
Despite the minor setbacks, I truly enjoyed my stay and would enthusiastically recommend this place to fellow able-bodied service animal handlers (who have good depth perception!) Choosing the right hotel is a personal journey, and I share these experiences so the hotel can enhance its service for future guests.
This trip was especially meaningful for me as I transition out of Colorado due to financial reasons. To be honest, I only make about $20,000 a year, so this vacation represented 20 percent of my income. It felt like a big deal to treat myself and pretend to be a bit richer, even if it wasn’t the most responsible choice! But I have absolutely no regrets. Throughout my stay, Staff made me feel valued and genuinely cared for, and because of that, I look forward to booking with Best Western again in the future. I wouldn’t trade this experience...
Read moreI would honestly give Best Western Antlers 3.5 stars, but rounded up bc everyone I interacted with--from maintenance to the front desk to the housekeeping staff--was great. Loved the room layout. Having two queen size beds in one room and another queen size bed in an adjoining room was perfect for my family of four. The free bikes and handy maps were wonderful perks. The location was fantastic. The rafting company we used (Hanging Lake Adventure Co-op) was across the street and the pool was a quick 10-15 min walk across the walkway. We even saw a double rainbow from our doorway during our stay.
BUT...the bugs. Specifically, the elm seed bugs. They were everywhere. When we first checked in, there were clusters gathered at the corners of the front windows and numerous bugs throughout the rooms. When I spoke to the front desk, they asked maintenance to spray the rooms. The guy was very nice and sprayed Off around our doorway. It didn't really do much. They were kind enough to give me a can of Off for the duration of our stay, but the elm seed bugs were a constant nuisance. I was killing at least a dozen a day (see final pic), even after stuffing all of the crevices I could see around the windows with tissues. I didn't want to lose money by leaving so we stayed for most of the time we had booked, but by the second to last day, we ended up checking out early. Do you know that sensation when it feels like a bug is crawling on you? Bugs were actually crawling on me. It was too much.
When we checked out, the front desk was very nice as per usual. I returned the can of Off with my key cards and suggested that the room be fumigated. Elm seed bugs are everywhere, but after talking to some other visitors to Glenwood Springs and discovering that their hotel rooms were bug-free, I realized that some additional steps can be taken to minimize their presence. The window screens should not be misaligned as they were in my room. The bathroom ceiling should not have spaces where bugs can crawl in.
I am writing this review from the hotel we ended up booking for tonight. Best Western Antlers has a tremendous amount of amenities and perks going for it, but it is a relief to be in a room that is...
