It’s a Friday night - 09.29.23 at 17:45. Gorgeous weather outside. I came here instead of going to Hendersonville or Nashville. Walked in the door, waited in a long line - which I’m fine with so long as everyone’s getting served and being given excellent hospitality… got to the front of the line and asked to sit outside with a table for 1. ONE PERSON FOLKS!! Host tells me he has nothing available outside. There are multiple tables outside and there are not only people sitting outside but a server just walked in from out there… I asked him about it and he stated he could not seat anyone else out there but that I could have a seat inside. The restaurant inside is very boring, extremely cold, and no atmosphere. I would not have asked for outside if I was willing to sit inside. This is not the first time something has happened og this nature here but this is definitely the last straw. No large cups to go. The place feels like a freezer. Zero atmosphere. The servers - minus the older gentleman who serves, are typically not very good and often snooty. Lunch time is insane - if you’re on a 1hr lunch break or less, don’t go. They take forever to get your food out to you and by the time you get your food, it’s time to go because your lunch break is almost over and even tho you work right here, you don’t want to be late. This place has good pizza but they need to work on their guest relations...
Read moreThe pizza is so good!! We frequently order pizza from a couple of different, local pizza places. Tonight, we wanted to try something different, something low-key and artisan, that didn't require going into east Nashville or downtown. We picked Calabria and after one visit, we can definitely confirm that we're fans of this place. The service was fantastic. Our server was attentive, helpful and kept our drinks full without waiting for us to ask for refills. The atmosphere is subdued and cozy, soft, dim lighting, a couple of TVs, and uncomplicated decor. Everything was clean and unassuming and just comfortable. We started with garlic knots, which arrived quickly. 4 fat, fluffy knots, bathed in delicious, garlicky, herby olive oil with a crisp bottom and soft, puffy top. Served with side of pizza sauce, these disappeared quickly! We ordered 2 16-inch pies: a buffalo chicken and a pizza bianca. We also ordered an Italian sausage calzone. The dough they use for the crust is simply wonderful. Flavorful with amazing texture. It's slightly chewy, soft and crunchy at the same time. Literal perfection. The buffalo chicken was great. Tender chunks of chicken, a mildly spicy buffalo sauce, lots of mozzarella and sweet red onions which absolutely complimented the spice. The pizza bianca was incredible. Truly a white pizza, with a creamy ricotta base, tangy asiago cheese and blobs of fresh mozzarella, all melty and gooey. Their recipes, at least for what we ordered, are all pretty simple. Nothing crazy, nothing super "gourmet", just authentic Italian flavors that allow the unique taste of brick oven baked crust and toppings to be the star. This place is truly a hidden gem and we will definitely be ordering...
Read moreI am a pizza snob from hell. I don't give out good reviews like haloween candy. This place is great. In short, great food, GREAT service (David), and reasonibly priced.
The Nashville pizza scene is generally disappointing (mostly mid to garbage pizza at insane prices for what you get). This place was a pleasant exception. Some of the best I have had in the Nashville area (after living here baout 6 years). We tried half pep and mushroom (one of my go tos) and half Italian meat lovers and the italian meat lovers was top notch. I would absolutely get that one again. Wings and garlic knots were good as well.
Our server David killed it. He was very busy (lots of people) but was so helpful and patient and carefully explained everything. He didnt treat us like a mere inconvenience like literally 99% of servers I have had the past 5 years. He went above and beyon in just about every aspect. I will absolutely be asking for him when we go back.
I won't deduct from the total star rating which I'll give 5 stars based on taste/experienve vs value but the lighting was not very good. It was quite uneven (some tables had light and some appeard to be in the dark with no light directed at them). More importantly the bulbs they used in their little spot lights were very low quality. They were in the 4000-5000k daylight range with clearly low CRI so everything seemed pale and unclear. They should DEFINITELY be using bulbs around 2700k color temperature for a nice place like that. Much more warm and inviting and less of a gas station/ DMV feel like the 5000k bulbs. Would be a very inexpensive upgrade to the...
