I ordered take out from this restaurant for my son and myself and we were so hungry! We love Asian food and just moved to this area and had not had the time to establish a place to eat yet. We looked online and found the Rice Box. We ordered the food using the application on my telephone. We went in the pouring rain to get our dinner and drove the 2.3 miles home. We are so excited to finally be eating as we were Just so hungry. Well, what a disappointment! The wings seemed like they’d been deep fried And then somehow wet. Yuck! We ate none of them. The next day, I called up at the establishment And ended up on the phone with Sherry. I told her that I generally didn’t do things like call the restaurant to complain as in simply don’t have the time but this was SO BAD that I felt compelled to do so. I also told her that I didn’t want to behave in a nasty manner the day before Thanksgiving but the situation overrode all these facts. Little did I know that I hadn’t experienced the worst that this restaurant had to offer. I was, at that time, on the phone with the worst thing the restaurant had to offer. She argued with me saying that if we would have eaten it on the premises, they wouldn’t have been piping hot and crispy. The fact that they were take out and had to be transported ALL THE WAY back to my home was the actual reason why this mishap occurred! I informed her that I lived 2 miles from the Rice Box And that’s not enough time for the wings to deteriorate that badly. She offered to make me some replacement wings right then but I wasn’t hungry or in a position to go and fetch them as I was getting ready to go to work, I told her that it would be nice that if at a later date I could call and get the wings at another time. She laughed under her breathe like I was attempting to scam her and the Rice Box and agreed to do this. Now, I wonder how that will go as she didn’t get by name or any identifying information from me. I will...
Read moreGreat place, great food, great service. The owners are a really sweet couple, and they will do whatever they can to compensate for food allergies, like MSG, seafood/shellfish, soy, gluten, different nuts, all of it, if you ask. The place gets busy around 5-6pm at night, so coming earlier is always better! (or later, like around 8-9pm, when things cool down a bit) In the lunch rush, its usually 11-2 that's pretty busy, and they open around 10, so coming at opening would give you a good time! For Saturday lunches, they're not usually as busy (everyone comes Saturday nights), so you may enjoy the quiet a bit more then!
I used to work here as a server and cashier, I'd be largely involved with the customers all the way until closing. All around it's a very popular place with the locals, being right by Krogers. The owners (And Candy! She's a sweet woman) have been around for almost 2 decades, they previously owned China Express around the corner. It's become much more popular with the same good food. They love seeing people happy to enjoy their food.
On the unfortunate occasion that the food isn't to the customer's liking, the staff will happily take the food back and have them fix you something else of equal value, or if nothing else, a refund. It's their goal at the end of the day to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible for a small dining experience.
One of the very few draw backs is that they're often understaffed. This isn't by choice, but from my personal opinion (as someone who had been there for about a year), the lack of staffing is from a lack of applicants that the owners feel they can trust (not completely unfounded, seeing as some of the few hired applicants never showed, or cancelled hours into the workday).
I'm obviously biased, seeing as I grew up with this place and these people, but I want it to flourish and grow and to be a happy place people come to...
Read moreOur go to favorite, hands down, dine in or take out. REAL Asian food? This place is the real deal. Working our way through whole menu: spring rolls to Seafood Delight so far, with no disappointments, ever. Someone else mentioned the only drawback: when ordering either spring rolls or egg rolls, no matter which you order, what you get is random. We now just order 3 of each and enjoy them both. Shrimp egg rolls contain 3 jumbo shrimp each, alternating with wonderfully flavored filling. Spring rolls are the best I've had anywhere. Seafood Delight may contain surimi when crab is hard to find, but it is full of flavor, no MSG, no sorbitol, as is the HANDMADE fishcake! We have 2 different special diets AND multiple food allergies, but they allow all substitutions, so we can each get whatever we desire with zero worry. "Amazing" dishes are just that: perfect balance of savory, just a touch of heat, and just a hint of sweet. Clean, convenient, friendly, accommodating, cozy, and a great value. We have only been for dinner, but those plates are both full and high. Takeout gets you a full liter of protein, veggies, and sauce, plus 16 oz of your chosen rice, EACH, for about $12/order (including taxes) for chicken dishes. Beef and shrimp are a little more ($1-$3), but it is butterflied jumbo shrimp, 1"x2" pieces or larger, always cooked perfectly. The hard part is finishing off all the leftovers before you're ready to go here and try...
