This place was an absolutely wild experience. To preface with the good, the location is beautiful and clean and the staff was very attentive - made sure we were doing alright, kept water filled, etc… (I thought about making my review a two star for this alone, but everything else made me decide to keep the one.) And now for the bad. First off, again, our waitress was very nice. At least to me. My male friend with whom I was eating may as well have been invisible. Maybe she thought we were on a date and she didn’t want to seem like she was hitting on him? Maybe she expected me to be ordering for him? I’m entirely unsure. But she would ask me what I would like and start to walk away before he could even add that he wanted anything. I’m still almost unsure that I didn’t imagine his presence myself. But I knew he was there when I saw his food on the bill. We thought it was funny that she seemed to scoff at tap water when offering us sparkling, bottled, or tap - like Greenville water isn’t delicious. And now for the food. The waitress had to preface that the food was cooked on “an American spice scale” where their medium was closer to a regular Thai place mild. They said we should be able to taste the spice but will still be able to taste the flavors of the dish at that level. Now, I love spicy, hot food. I’m white and small and by all appearances don’t look like I can take it. But my dad grew up in Africa and my mom is from Alabama - my family LOVES spicy food. I eat within the upper ranges at regular Thai restaurants and generally regret not getting the hottest because whatever I get isn’t hot enough. My friend also dining at this restaurant likes spicy food as well, just not at the heat level I do. And now that you have that information, I ordered a ten (their hottest from what we were told) and he ordered a seven on their spice scale. The food eventually comes out and they must have assumed since we are both white that even though we ASKED for the hotter end of the heat scale, it’s not what we wanted due to their regular clientele needing spiceless food and they added nothing. The alternative is that their hottest is just that disappointing and I don’t know which is better to believe. The food had an alright flavor but absolutely ZERO heat and you could barely taste any even heatless spices. When I told the waitress this they brought out tiny - smaller than communion cup sized - cups filled halfway with spices. One was their house chili oil, the second was a dry spice mix, and the third was sriracha (as if sriracha is all that spicy - that should have been a clue). We started off trying to portion them out in hopes that they actually had heat to them. When we found out none of it did for either of us, and we ended up experimenting and added them all to my curry to create a hopefully spicy franken-curry. All to no avail. Adding everything in made the curry about a 1.5. To both of us. The food tastes as if someone described eating spicy Thai food to someone who thinks milk is spicy and that person then thought, “hmm, I should make a Thai restaurant!” We were then told what seemed like a secret spice menu after the meal and to next time ask for the “Thai special spice” in our food. This is where they add “a whole pepper in with the meal while it cooks.” One. Pepper. Needless to say, if you enjoy more authentic Thai food that has some spice and flavor to it, don’t come here. If you think salt or pepper is enough spice to add to your food, this might be the...
Read moreAs a party of 6, we all had different menu items. I attempted to get the veggie fried rice without egg, add tofu, but they could not make the rice without the egg, explaining that egg is like glue. As a customer at many other Asian restaurants, I notice that they can not take out egg if it is already cooked and just needs to be reheated. I never return to these places after I learn their foods are not freshly made for the money I am paying to dine out. Benefit of the doubt, my party orders the red curry, green curry, and pad see-eu. Curries came with a small dish of rice on the side. The flavors were good, but nothing that stood out as great or different or even anything to talk about. The pad see-eu also had a good flavor, but the noodles were like an Asian bowl that you get out of a microwave. Stuck together and chewy in spots. Duck was said to be alright but was passed to another person to eat after just a few bites, fried rice with egg was not finished or boxed. Our waters were refilled timely, the waitress was pleasant throughout service. We were seated quickly as we were the only customers there. Our plates came out 2 at a time instead of all together. The atmosphere seemed more expensive than the food. The dishes/table seemed clean, and the empty restaurant had 4 other tables dining as we left. Great location and pretty decor, but will go elsewhere for Asian food, made by real...
Read moreIt was so excited to go to this Thai place on my vacation in Greenville, South Carolina. Their website said I needed a reservation, so I left a message the day before. No one returned my phone call at all. I then got on their website again and used the google app to make a reservation. I chose 6pm, yeah, when the confirmation came through.Later that day, it changed it to 5 pm. Again, I got on the website and changed the reservation back 6 pm. Upon arrival, it was mostly empty, and the host didn't care about my reservation. It was rather warm and humid in there, as if they had not turned on the air conditioning in time to cool and open up their business. The service was just adequate. We had to ask the server for a drink refill 3 times before we he brought them. The food was very bland, in fact, I had to put salt on my food, which I never do. I went there for the Basil Rolls, but when I bit into it, I just about choked on how spicy it was. It turns out they mix a Sriracha into their Peanut Dipping sauce. It advertises on the menu, a peanut sauce, nowhere did I see that it was going to be a very spicy hot peanut sauce or I would have ordered something different. Overall, not the greatest experience, and I would...
