Please tell me I’m not crazy… I dined at this restaurant last night and had a terrible experience, both with the food quality and how the situation was handled. When our sushi came out to the table, I was overall pleased, except for an issue I had with the Rainbow Roll (see photo below). Honestly, the picture speaks for itself… it was lacking in quality and presentation (and let’s be honest, I’ve had a rainbow roll or two in my life..). Anyway, I mentioned it to the server, in an overall nice manner.. in which I was asked what was wrong with it.. I explained my issue. In addition, I went ahead and ordered another roll at this point knowing I would still be hungry. The manager then approached the table and asked me the same thing. Again, I explained myself. The manager proceeded to tell me that the rainbow roll has been served this way for over 11 years, and in that time, no one has ever complained about the presentation, and in fact love the roll. He then proceeded to tell me “the best he could do was 50% off the roll” while it sat on the plate untouched. I was shocked, but of course did not want to make a scene with my partner there, etc. We spent close to $100 here… trust me, I was not looking for a handout. Please tell me I’m not crazy… would you have eaten this…?!

I've eaten here a many of times and as much as I want to give a higher rates review, I can't. The food here is absolutely amazing and everything I have tried has been very fresh and so so good. While I wish it was a little cheaper sometimes you gotta pay for quality. The service is always okay at best, I've eaten here multiple times when it wasn't busy and my drink never stayed full. While I can live with everything above and am not picky or hard to work with there's one issue I can't get over. As you all will know the restaurant is located in downtown Greenville and I live about 1 hour away in Spartanburg. Today I did a to go order I ordered 4 rolls and told the person on the phone I have an allergy to avocado and explained this to the man on the phone, he said okay and confirmed he heard me correctly. I got my food and drove home and to my surprise when I got home everything I ordered had avocado. I've had this happen before while dining in and I don't mind it, but now I was an hour away from the restaurant. I tried to call over 8 times over the last 3 hours and never got an answer. I didn't get to eat my food and we had to throw away what she couldn't finish as she's not allergic.

Restaurant is an absolute joke and there are plenty of other sushi places you’re better off going to for the price point there. The only positives is that the staff is friendly and efficient.

Decided to grab dinner with my colleagues and popped in Sushi Murasaki. First off there’s another restaurant that’s the in same building and you get both menus so that was confusing at first. That’s no problem, had a nice and quick waiter and order some sushi. Food came out fast and no one had to wait or feel left out. Here’s where I have a problem, the price and the quality of food. Me and a friend were out roaming Greenville for our birthday weekend and decided to eat here for dinner tonight. My friend decided to get the dumplings and when she opened the lid, a roach came running out of the bowl and crawled all over the table. After everyone around us saw what was happening, the nice ladies sitting behind us returned their food as they were grossed out by what they had witnessed. The nice lady beside us decided she was no longer going to eat because she no longer had an appetite either. After flagging down a waitress and my friend killing the bug with a napkin and showing the waitress, the person in charge came out to speak but instead of speaking to us, they spoke to the ladies behind us. After a 5 minute spill about how it happens and saying it was due to the building being old and telling them their bill will be compensated, he walked away and never came to speak to us. He then proceeded to come back to the table behind us and ask them to not tell anyone what they had saw, they then proceeded to tell him that the roach came out of our food not theirs. He walks over, he doesn't say anything other than hey. We tell him we've already paid and he said he would be right back and then never came back. So therefore our bill was NOT compensated but that ladies behind us were when we were the ones that had the roach in the food. So we decide to get up and leave and he hardly made any eye contact and threw his hands up and shrugged his shoulder and all he had to say was "Sorry guys".

It is REALLY sad we had to receive this kind of service. We use to come here every Friday and it was one of our favorite places to eat. We've raved about this place to everyone we know for years. So to receive this kind of service and lack of caring was disgusting. We will never be back and after today, we will never recommend anyone to come here. I have been here a few times and I usually have a pretty good experience. Today I went in and I wanted to order a sushi roll with shrimp, basically the Philadelphia roll but with shrimp and no spicy mayo. She says shrimp tempura I said yes I guess. She comes back with 5 big pieces of sushi with shrimp tails hanging out of them. I told her that’s not correct and I showed her on menu that it’s supposed to be an 8 piece and smaller and these big pieces. The Asian lady with blonde hair intervened and I told her what was going on and was trying to explain to her what I was trying to order and she was acting all confused and so she go gets the manager and he comes out. I was explaining to him and he kept trying to question me asking me did I order shrimp tempura. I told him that’s not what I was ordering and the roll I wanted basically the same as Philadelphia roll just with shrimp and it was an 8 piece. I didn’t like his tone and it was like he wanted to make me say i ordered that so I would be stuck paying for it. I told him the waitress suggested shrimp tempura not me. I was like are you trying to double charge me.? He goes well it’s not like we can just take the food back. I said just like any other restaurant if the order wrong you take it back. I told him I feel like you’re trying to coerce me to say that’s what I ordered and I’m not. I didn’t even touch it. She just brought it out. He was like ok that’s all I was asking then he takes it back. I just don’t like how they were trying to make me feel bad and gaslight me like it’s my fault the order is wrong 😒…I’m good on this place...

This was not our first meal at Sushi Murasaki, but we were particularly disappointed by our experience this time around.

The atmosphere is four star worthy. Definitely can be a good spot for a date night or, in our case, a nice lunch. We had no problems with the atmosphere.

The food is average. Definitely a few steps up from your local Asian food joint, but also nothing to write home about. We had lunch wok (one chicken and one beef) and a split a sushi roll. It was all good, but not stand out or life changing.

The service is where we had issues. Our server was pretty disorganized and inattentive. My wife was given someone else’s main (mine came out correct), the server noticed and swapped out the dishes a few minutes later, but never offered any form of apology. We over heard the server being short with other customers and at one point heard him ask someone if they would rather take old egg rolls or if they’d rather have fresh ones. We seldom saw or heard from him again after the food mix up, but once our plates were cleared he was quick to get us out even though the restaurant was far from packed. Not the worst service we’ve ever experienced, but for a $50 lunch ticket I would have expected better.

Our previous visit was for dinner. The service was much better, but my opinions of the food and atmosphere remain the same. Perhaps they put their more experienced servers on the evening shift since it’s busier.
