We had a reservation for NYE at 8:45pm, for which we deposited $50 (required). We arrived to the restaurant at 8:40 and we saw a long line waiting. When we approached the hostess to let her know that we had arrived, she told us we had at least 20 tables in front of us and that she couldn’t give us an estimate on how long it would take for our table to be ready. That was infuriating for two reasons, first, the hostess approach was very dry and unapologetic, even when we told her that our reservation was at 8:45, she only shrugged her shoulders and said there was nothing she could do, and secondly, if the restaurant is asking for a $50 deposit to ensure people show up, they should make sure they meet the expectations, especially on NYE. Because it was just me (almost 9 months pregnant) and my husband, we decided to go to the bar in the hotel rooftop and drink something before our table was ready, leaving the hostess our phone number , as she said she would call us when ready. At 9:20 we go back downstairs and ask what the situation was, to which she replies that it would take 10-15 more minutes to get us our table… at this point we are talking to other guests who were in the same situation, some of whom left as they had tickets for other events for that night. After waiting in the lobby for another 20 min, we go back and ask them again, and they had the audacity to tell me they had been trying to call me, to which I showed them my phone and the 0 calls or messages I had received. They said it was “weird”. At that point the manager was also managing the situation and says we can be seated, and apologizes for the delay. This was at 9:45pm. Our waitress, Julie I believe, was awesome, managing the situation as best as she could. She was also very honest when we asked her how long was food taking to come out once ordered, to which she replied 1 hour…. We rushed our order to ensure that we would not get caught by the new year while still eating. Food was DELICIOUS, truly well prepared and plated. I was very impressed by the quality of it, and enjoyed it a lot. The sea-bass was out of this world and the ribeye was so flavorful and tender that each bite was just incredible. My husband order two wine glasses and that was all the alcohol we had since I’m pregnant, and that was also what they didn’t charge us for when we got the bill. We did not order dessert because we were full and honestly, it was already 11:45pm and we wanted to make it to our next destination to meet with friends. Our food did take an hour to come out, so we started eating at 11pm after ordering at 10pm. The manager did come and talked to us and confessed that the kitchen had been behind all night and that it was not the first time it had happened. My point of view is that they need to improve a lot, especially as it is not a cheap restaurant, they ask for deposits in advance and it was a special night. I will not be going back to this location on a night like that, as now we know they struggle to provide an acceptable service, but I’ll probably visit again on a random day, as the food...
Read moreMy family and I have celebrated many times at Ruth’s Chris steakhouses many times and in many places over the years. I was greatly disappointed in our experience at the River Place Ruth’s Chris in Greenville, SC. It simply did not meet the standard set by other Ruth’s Chris’s Steakhouses. We we’re greeted immediately when we arrived at the hostess desk and promptly seated for our 7:30 reservation on Saturday, March 27th. From that point on, our experience did not meet our expectations and prior experiences at aa Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. The restaurant was not very busy yet it took 15 minutes for someone to take our first drink order. Our waiter then seemed to disappear for another 20 minutes before talking to us and taking our order. Our waiter went missing again for 25 minutes. In the meantime, our food was delivered by the runners. The steaks had no sizzle, and the side dishes were only warm. I think our food was sitting for a while before being delivered. Two of us ordered a drink from the runners to go with our meal that was delivered by our waiter relatively quickly. The filet mignons, cool and yet were very good. My NY Strip Strip Steak was, cool, 25% gristle and somewhat tough to cut. My spinach side, as were the other sides barely warm. 25 minutes later, our waiter appears and asks how our meals were. I described the temperature of the food and the poor quality of my strip steak to which he agreed. He returned a few minutes with the check , not even asking about dessert. I asked for a crime brûlée that we would share at the table. We received that relatively quickly which he said he would comp. I paid the check and only left a 13% tip because of the poor service. (I am an over tipper when I get reasonably good service and enemies more for great service). I missed my chance to ask for the manager because the server left with the check so quickly.
When I took a good look at the Bill when I got home, It said we were composed with three deserts.
I would still recommend Ruth’s Chris restaurants but not this one. Our visit may have been a “one-off”, but for the price, you can do...
Read moreWorst dining experience I've ever had. Was seated for 25 minutes before we were even served water. Was told by the girl who brought our water that we would be served bread and butter right away. It never came. Our waiter finally came and took our order. After we had been seated for an hour our entrees were served. We had not yet recieved our bread or salads. The server said she would put our steaks under the warmer and get our salads. I said no thanks, I would prefer to eat the steak while hot. She said fine, she will box up the salad for later. I asked her to please bring them as we would still like to have them with our meal. The filets were hot and cooked perfectly. The vegetables were cold. They brought our salads and I mentioned that we had not recieved bread either and that, yes we would like that with our meal as well. They brought the bread with no butter (I gave up hope) All this while our waiter (Roger) had not even checked back on us. It gets better, or worse i guess. The assistant manager came and got our vegetables switched out or reheated about the time we were finished with our steaks. The root vegetables were hot this time but the creamed spinach still just barely warm. The assistant mgr. told us that because of the trouble we could pick any dessert from the menu not just the one that came with the course we had chosen. Roger brought us menus and disappeared for 28 minutes. Yes, I was timing now. We asked someone to get him and when he finally came I asked him to please bring our check. I said maybe he could just take the price of dessert off the bill. He said no the dessert is included in the price and he couldn't really do that. I said fine, just bring the check so we can leave. By now we had been there nearly 2 hours. I asked to speak to the "real" manager. We explained in detail and she was very apologetic and didn't charge us anything and gave us a gift card asking us to give them a second chance. No thanks, it will take much more than a $100 gift card to get us back here! Ruined an otherwise great evening out. Should have read reviews...
