I don’t normally take the time to write reviews. However, I’ll make an exception in this instance.
Tonight, a friend and I wanted a burger. Not JUST ANY BURGER…but a big, sloppy, juicy, blow your T’ts off kinda experience. I came into the group & searched burgers. I saw the few reviews on Windy City Burger located in the heart of Greenville. Immediately, I said to myself “THIS IS THE PLACE!”.
Getting to the JUICY PART: We were immediately greeted by a young lady who was a multitasking wizard: Taking orders, bagging food, and schmoozing the crowd. Pleasantly, she explained how the seating situation worked (it is a very small place; seats roughly 16 people), and that we would be assigned a seat once we ordered our food. No problem with that at all; they had everything under control & knew exactly who was getting what & where. Equally important, ownership LITERALLY had his hands on EVERY SINGLE BURGER that went out. This level of ownership & QUALITY CONTROL was unlike anything I’ve seen in a long time. I didn’t get the gentleman’s name, but you can tell this isn’t just a business. He takes pride in every order that rolls off his burger assembly line; maintaining a symphonic approach as a maestro would leading his orchestra during a ballad. He is pictured expediting food below.
I ordered the RAVENSWOOD (blue rare…unfortunately, it came back more towards medium rare…I won’t even hold it against since it’s an off-occurrence for the request & also since the burger remained delectable & juicy bearing tons of flavor) with THE MOST AMAZING GARLIC PARM FRIES I’ve ever had the pleasure of gracing my pallet with.
Biting into this masterpiece, you’re immediately inundated with flavors coming from the beef blend, buttery toasted bun, and juice flowing from mid-rare burger. If there were ever an eye rolling experience to be had from a burger, it’s this one! Tons of bleu-cheese, crispy perfect bacon, onion straws, and to top it all off: Celery slaw & the PERFECT AMOUNT of their (I imagine) house made creamy buffalo cream sauce! Over joyed by every bite, the worst part of this burger is when it ended.
My evening with tip set me back $25: Ravenwood burger, alacartè garlic parm fries, and a can of coke, with tax included.
If you’re a burger snob like me, I defy to you to leave this establishment thinking anything less than “THIS IS THE BEST F*%KING BURGER IVE EVER HAD!!!” reacting like Lord Beerus & Weisse fr Dragonball Super!
After much deliberation, it earned a 9.6/10. My highest rated burger EVER. — at Windy...
Read moreHeard about this place opening a few weeks ago, and decided to give it a try last night, figuring that they had enough time to tweak & tune after opening. BTW: I am a 30+ year veteran of the restaurant & bar business—in every role from dishwasher to GM—and it’s almost impossible to set a record the first time you run a sprint. (I say that as there is what I consider to be an unfair review here; giving 1 star for an (alleged) issue that staff at any new operation should be given the opportunity to make right at the time.) Anywho, on to the review.
We always had a soft spot for the location, when we moved here in ‘14 it was Vic’s Pizza, and it has a perfect urban hole-in-the-wall vibe. The addition of some cafe tables outside was a good sign as we approached.
The staff was super-freindly, and very attentive. In addition to soft drinks, they offered beer and wine. The white blend and the red blend were both tasty.
The meat is ground fresh in-house with a chuck/pork belly mix. The brioche buns are baked by the owners and are seeded, golden, and fresh. I opted for the Irving, with sautéed mushroom & onion, Swiss cheese, crispy “Funions,” and a horseradish/dijonaise. I ordered mine pink (my wife ordered hers not-pink), and got a side of the sea salt fries for us to split.
In short, it was delicious. The temp of both our burgers was right, and not-pink was still juicy and flavorful. The buns were buttered, toasted, and divine. Both of us enjoyed the hand-cut fries, which were crispy and plentiful.
The little chocolate treat to finish was a nice touch, and really tasty. I am assuming it is also made by the baker? Regardless, it was a perfect ending to a great meal. We will be...
Read moreI don’t go to downtown Greenville often, but when I do, it’s for a very specific purpose.
Today, it was Windy City Burgers. What drew me in? Their very creative menu with a fun combination of flavors and the fact that their brioche buns are homemade. Also, their chuck/pork belly blend burger patties are freshly ground in-house. You can also choose grilled or fried chicken, an Impossible Burger, lettuce wrap, and they have GF buns.
It’s a cozy hole-in-the-wall kind of spot with very limited seating, but there are a few tables outside for an alfresco dining experience. I felt comfortable from the moment I walked in. No pretentiousness whatsoever and the employees were super friendly and helpful. Awesome vibe all around.
I got The Irving. It has grilled mushrooms and onions, Swiss cheese, Funyon Onion Crisps, and a Horseradish Dijon Sauce. Huge burger!!! And quite messy that it required both hands, but man…this is an incredible burger! Super juicy and out of this world flavor. I loved the spice kick from the sauce too.
And now, I will talk to you about the best fries that I’ve ever had from anywhere. Their Garlic Parmesan Fries. 🥰 Definitely love at first bite…so dang crispy! What blew my mind is that the flavor didn’t stop at the first dozen of fries—the garlicky, cheesy awesomeness kept going and going.
Incredible burger spot in downtown Greenville! I would go back in...
