I'm normally a patient guy, but tonight both my docile mouse of a husband and I left angry. I love my stakes rare, not raw. What I got tonight was still raw, even on the seared sides. (See images.) I would have asked to have it cooked a little bit longer but we couldn't get the attention of our waiter. We saw him twice - once when we got our appetizer and once when he got our food, where he told us he'd be right back to refill our drinks. Nearly 40 minutes later and we were still waiting, but ready to just give up and pay. My husband still couldn't flag out server down. He went up front to pay and grab to-go boxes. I took my steak home and cooked it to 60°C. Coser medium rare now, I guess, which is whatever, I don't cook steaks for a living. But now it won't poison me so huzzah I guess. What is bad is I've been here probably four times in the past year and twice I got served raw steak. Twice it was cooked correctly. 50% miss is... not great. Especially for a dedicated steakhouse. At least last time they were kind enough to take off the cost of my steak for the mistake, which was rad. This time I couldn't get anyone's attention. I shouldn't pay $70 for two people only to take my food home and cook it to safety. This is outrageous. The potato and cheese curds were good, I guess. Edit: Thank you for the response to my review. I really appreciate you taking the time to read my feedback. This is the only steakhouse in the valley, as far as I'm aware, so my experience was disheartening. It is great to hear that my review is being taken seriously and this makes me optimistic for a positive change. I will try again in the future. Thank you.

Ol' Miner is one of my regular stopping points when I get out to Gunnison. So here's the thing: this place is FULL of the taxidermied heads of pretty much every animal that you can hunt in North America. You will often see actual ranch owners wearing Stetson hats eating here with their family or friends. Gunnison is this odd mix of ranching life, ski bums, college students, academics, and tourists. Ol' minor has something for everyone, which is why you'll run into every part of the Gunnison dynamic there. Their steaks are not particularly great. They're good, but not something you're going to go out of your way to get. They do have a better-than-average salad bar and their burgers and other sandwiches are delicious. They serve breakfast, though the last time I was there (October 2017) they had a sign up that indicated they wouldn't be serving it anymore. I'm not sure if that is a seasonal thing as Gunny doesn't get much traffic in the winter months. I really hope that they continue to serve breakfast as they have the best breakfast in Gunnison in my opinion. They also have plenty of TVs and stream sports live. I come over here with my buddies to watch football or baseball games. The bartenders are all extremely friendly and I've gotten to know a few of them pretty well. If you're in the Gunnison Valley and looking for an interesting place to eat, Ol' Miner Steakhouse is a great choice.

We came here last year for the first time and the first time was not enough.. we came the next day too! Last year it was fish and chips.. delicious. This year it's fried tater skins that were just excellent. The main course; chicken fried steak and it is to die for. Lightly battered and tender steak... No fat to chew through just perfection. They have a full bar and Bill the bartender makes a bomb Long Island Iced tea. We found out that they were clearing out one of the two beers to make room for a summer brew... $2 a pint - can't go wrong there. Our waiter Amanda was helpful, friendly and she didn't hang over us. Brandon the assistant manager spent some time with us with some stories about himself and the owners... This family owned restaurant does it the right way. Don't miss this stop on your way though Gunnison.

Average statehouse experience, maybe below average. Server seemed overwhelmed both nights I went, however night 1 far surpassed night 2. I was alone both evenings. Unfortunately only place in town without a wait while I was there, wonder why. Night 1, younger male server was good and fairly attentive. No knock on his part. I ordered a filet and baked potato, ordered medium rare. The steak came definitely on the medium side, upsetting but... its fine. Potato was excellent. Ordered a lava cake to go, which arrive quickly and I was on my way, upon getting to the hotel and opening the box... its a muffin. Or akin to one. With a light hardly there chocolate drizzle on it. Clearly heated up quickly in a microwave, as the edges were hard and middle was searing hot, no "lava" to speak of, and underwhelming flavor. Wanted to call and complain, but they were closed, didn't even finish it. Night 2, young female worker with dark hair, I have much to say about her. Seated at a table where I had to be passed to go in or out of the balcony section, and could easily be seen from the bar. It took OVER 25MIN for a WATER.... A WATER.... She passed me multiple times, held conversation with coworkers at the bar, etc... And when I got said water? The cup was cracked over 3/4 of the way down, water vigorously dripping out the side. I had to bring it over to her and ask for a new one, which took another several minutes. The cup was dirty, lipstick still on the edge. I used a finger napkin to clean the rim as I couldn't be bothered anymore. I ordered the same as the night before, a filet and baked potato, asked for medium rare again, and asked for no sour cream on potato.... The filet did come out perfect this time, yay, but the potato came up with sour cream... notified server. It had been over 40min of me being there at this point. Recieved a new potato, ate, left.

Will not be going back, even if there's a wait at other restaurants next...

So very disappointed with our experience here. We were a large group that made a reservation for a family event we were celebrating. Have been here before, but has been several years ago. We had great appetizers and salads were extra charge but okay. Unfortunately we ordered steak at a “steak” restaurant. My sibling and I ordered steaks medium well, they came out raw, blood running out and cold in the middle, yet dark and grilled on the outside. I worked in restaurants through high school and college (about 10 years in total) the streaks were super done on the outside and raw in the middle. I would guess they were frozen and not thawed at all prior to cooking.

Another issue I had was that the server didn’t come back to check if the food was okay. My Dad had to flag another waitress down to get ours, and I was done with my side before our waitress came back. They tried to cook them more, of course they just made the outsides tougher and the insides warmer, brought back still undercooked inside and blackened outside.

We asked for the manager and when my Dad was telling him this is not going well, he was rude, said “it’s not the end of the world” and “mistakes happen” so apparently they do not believe in customer service, they don’t believe in making it right. When you spend $30-$40-$50 a plate for 9 people, plus tip, you expect good food at the minimum. I could not even eat the leather that they turned the steak into. The only compensation was not paying for those 2 meals. He did bring 3 desserts for a large table, but the rudeness, the terrible cooking the whole way it was dealt with really ruined our family celebration.

Bad, bad job, DO NOT RECOMMEND! Maybe stick to Italian or fast food when dining...
