I got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes, and collard greens. Fried green beans for an app. Wife had a burger and said it was good. Everything was good except for the collard greens. I don't know why I cannot get good collard greens from a restaurant. Lilly's Hot Chicken in the Farmer's Market are about as close as I have came and they were pretty good. Everywhere else, it's just some creative spin that throws them off or just too much salt. They were way too salty and a little tuff in the stems. There wasn't any 'pot liquor' in the little bowl and they were pretty dry. These two things tell me exactly what's wrong. Start out with a correct amount of salt for volume and evaporation will concentrate the sodium unless diluted again. Dip the greens out dry without the juice which is an important part of the dish, and this just adds to the same problem since you aren't really using the juice. In other words, if you have leftover pot liquor at the end of the greens you aren't using all the product, and without dilution to get the salt back in check after cooking, the product isn't very good anyway. They were plain tasting as well, I don't remember if vegetarian, but they were also a little tough. Vegetarian greens can be very good if you tweak it a little. I learned about collard greens from way back driving a truck through Mississippi. These little gas stations used to have the best plate lunches.... I wish restaurants had a larger bowl than the other sides specifically for greens, any greens like turnip, etc... Because the juice you are putting down a drain is part of the dish. And all you need is a little spoon to taste before you put it out to people. I'm not calling this place out, it's literally 9/10 places that have a problem with turnip or collards. I know, a bit of a rant but everything else was good. The country fried steak had flavor, mashed potatoes were good, more like smashed potatoes, gravy was good. Green bean side was just canned green beans heated up though, so unless that's your thing I would skip that as well. Fried green bean app was good. We'll definitely be back but just skip these things, the rest of the menu looks good. Just walking by other tables I would probably skip the skillet thing but haven't tried it. The table next to us did and I got the feeling they had envy over the one in their party that got ribs. Service was excellent, should have noted her name but I don't remember. Probably remembers me because I went on about the collard...
Read moreVery much disappointed!! It was my birthday, so my husband took me here because I have been wanting to eat here. We were seated immediately and it's a very nice restaurant. Kayla the waitress was very sweet and kind. We ordered the appetizer Nachos and they were good but not quiet worth the price. My husband ordered the Whole Farm that is on the menu, but Kayla came back to the table and said "sorry but we do not have any chicken and we do not have any Turkey, so is there anything else that you would like to order. So he ordered the Nashville Cheese Steak sandwich that was Brisket and she told him that it came with 2 sides. Kayla said it came with Fries and he ask if he could get the red beans and rice with the sausage also with it. Kayla says "Yes". I ordered the Butterflied Trout Fish and Kayla said it came with 2 sides and she ask if the rice was ok to come with it. I said "No" I really do not want the rice, "Can I get a salad instead" and Kayla said "Yes". So.. We get our food and my husband did not get his fries and he had red beans with no sausage in it and with a few pieces of rice in the red beans.. AND Kayla even said "Oh and it looks like you have only red beans and NO RICE OR VERY LITTLE in that bowl" and then she said "does everything look ok? and do you need anything else? I said Yes he was suppose to have french fries with his meal and I got Rice with my meal that I did not want but ok.. She looked at me and said" hummm" ok and walked off. She came back with me some lemons for my water and I said I just added my rice to his red beans and suppose to be rice and sausage. She just walked off. My fish was not good and it was suppose to have grilled Shrimp on top of the Fish but I could barely even see any shrimp. They were so small that they looked like small round pieces of fish that was the size of a dime. I believe that was the smallest shrimp I have ever seen. Must have been salad shrimp. So $70.42 later, I decided this was a very BIG MISTAKE to eat here. I was looking forward to it and was not impressed with the service nor was I impressed with the food. WAY OVERPRICED!! The service should have been much better on a Tuesday night and especially when they only had about 10 customers dining at this time. Still scratching my head about, How can you be out of chicken and turkey, when you are not busy and Kroger's is just up the street. I do not...
Read moreToday (11/27/2024), we arrived with a party of 5 to have lunch before a movie. We arrived around 11:15 AM with a 12:45 PM movie time. The main dining area had about 3-4 tables occupied and there was a larger party in the party room, so not too busy. We were eventually seated and the server took our drink orders. She preemptively apologized and stated that it was her first day on the floor. Eventually, we placed out meal orders at about 11:45 AM. Maybe a wee bit tight but still plenty of time before the movie. As we sat waiting, about 5-6 2 tops came in and were seated. They had ordered and were also waiting. One by one they started to receive their meals as we continued to wait. Eventually, one by one...they finished eating, paid and left...as we continued to wait. The time was now closing in on 12:30 PM. Tight, but still time to eat before the movie. We asked and were told that our ticket was coming up now. About 10 mins later (12:40 PM for those keeping score) the server with still no food in hand, came to tell us that one of the items ordered was not available. At this stage, we asked to cancel the order because we had to leave. We were notably disappointed, but not angry. Things happen sometimes. As we were leaving, this is where the disappointment turned to upset and then angry. The manager was made aware of the situation and decided his best option was to avoid us. I mean full dismissive behavior, no eye contact, and just acting as if we were not even there. We asked for the store number and he quickly dismissed us...not once even affording us the courtesy of a quick glance or eye contact. Had we had some extra time, we would have happily waited for him to grace us with his attention. We are not upset with the server. It was her first day. We are disappointed with the kitchen but not upset. Sometimes, the weeds just happen. We are however disgusted with the lack of support she failed to receive from the manager or other staff members. We are disgusted with the manager specifically for being dismissive and completely failing to acknowledge the situation at hand. If he is going to wear the big boy pants, he needs to be willing to take on the big boy responsibilities of his position which can be...
