Grimaldi's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Hoboken

We ordered the Grimaldi's Favorite, a house menu item which is a pizza topped with ricotta, pepperoni, and fried eggplant. It comes out tasting like fish so I go to the manager and politely ask that he take a bite or smell of the pizza to see what I mean. Without doing anything to assess the pizza and for no real reason, he says that because I was polite about it he's willing to give us another pizza, but when people aren't polite to him they get nothing. What he didn't seem to realize is that this shows he's not concerned with the quality of food being served, but instead with his ego being catered to. Then the waitress comes over and says she accidentally pressed the button for anchovies, so now looking more closely there are obviously anchovies on the pizza. The corrected pizza comes out rushed and too doughy, not as crisp as the first. When our bill arrives it's full price. I mention to the waitress that I think it's strange to charge us fully at this point, and my girlfriend hears her telling the manager that I'm making a problem as she goes to the bathroom. She comes back and says she tried (a lie) but the manager said he gave us another pizza and that's all they're gonna do. They could've done things the right way, but because they've got people in there who want to play tough guy instead of do their job the result is our level of dissatisfaction which is now...

I've been enjoying grimaldis from my first try in Brooklyn. So when they open in Hoboken more than 15 years ago I was really excited and have enjoyed the institution for it great pizza and friendly atmosphere. Until tonight. I don't know what happened to service here. We got there and waited by the front and no one came up to us for 10 minutes even when we asked if we were at the right place. Finally the cranky owner asked us how big our party (3) was after 15 minutes and asked the party of 4 behind us who got there way after us. 5 minutes later the owner/host sat the party behind us first! We had to wait another 5 mins. We we're finally seated and the service was pathetic. Barely a hello. We didn't get a place settings until after we received our wine which took 10 mins after we ordered it which the he didn't even bother to open the wine. Despite less than stellar service, during a time of day where there was only one other customer, I’m giving this place five stars because the pizza is just that good. The crust was perfectly crunchy and chewy, the under crust was the same.perfectly foldable pizza with a nice flop, just like Naples intended it. Pie was loaded with toppings. I’m glad I only went for the 10” or I’d be rolling out the door and down the street.

Service was just okay. Walked in and no one greeted me until I was practically at the back of the restaurant. My server took my order promptly, but ignored me for the most part after my food arrived. They passed me five times with an empty glass sitting in front of me until I was forced to flag them down (something I hate doing). Again, there was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time.
