3.5 stars...love the customizable poke box concept (choose your size, fish type, style, sides, etc). Flavors are good. Clean, flavorful sides. Sauce maybe could use smaller prep batches, though, as it is unnerving to see it separating in the service container & smaller batches/service containers might help. Overall portions are reasonable and well-balanced (not too much rice, etc).
Inconsistent on most important quantity--the fish. How much you get depends who is front of the house when you order. When I asked how many ounces of fish is in a one-selection/smallest plate, the answer was "a scoop". When I asked how much/what size their scoop held/was (a half-cup? Equal to a 1/3lb? Any idea at all?) they said they didn't know. Hmm.
When it is good, it is VERY good. But on occasion, ahi has had tough strings in it, and the salmon has looked slimy a few times (I am guessing because it is not as popular?).
But sadly, the biggest ding against this small, hard-working shop is the fly problem. I know it is Hawai'i and they have a door that is constantly open to the main food court, but a doorway fan might assist with this. Open garbage cans near raw items do not help (see pics) & sauces would be better covered (clear lids maybe?) when not in service. I admit I am harder on shops selling raw fish in general, especially when their raw fish is served cafeteria-style up at the front of the house, because of the increased health hazards. The hard-working ladies I saw were constantly wiping down the area; they try hard. Some small adjustments (lidded garbage cans/away from food, doorframe/doorway fans, lidded service containers, etc.) might address everything...
Conveniently located right next to the food court and across from the tourist bus depot in Ala Moana. Lots of handicapped parking right outside the shop.
Accepts credit cards. Tap to pay option occasionally works.
No seating in the shop itself (counter/cafeteria-style ordering only), but it is semi-detached from the food court. Plenty of seating there.
No refillable drink option.
Restrooms available in the food court area. It is a far walk though, so be prepared to head out pretty early if you need the restroom, especially if you have small kids.
No military, kama'aina, or any other discount.
Regardless, it is a clever concept and the folks working there are very nice. I am usually on the fence about returning but do, hoping for the best...

During my vacation in Honolulu, Hawaii, I discovered Poke & Box, a hidden gem nestled on the edge of a food court in a local mall. Despite its unassuming location, this spot quickly became one of my go-to places for fresh poke. As someone who loves customizing meals, I was thrilled with the option to build my poke box to my liking. The variety of ingredients available was impressive, and it was clear that everything was incredibly fresh. Each bite was a burst of flavour, from the perfectly seasoned fish to the crisp vegetables and delicious toppings.
The portion sizes were generous, which is something I always appreciate when dining out. I left feeling fully satisfied and convinced that this is one of the better poke spots I’ve tried, even compared to more upscale locations. The service was another highlight—quick and efficient, making it an excellent choice for those on the go. The staff were friendly and ensured that my order was prepared exactly as requested, which added to the overall positive experience.
What stood out to me was how well they executed the entire experience, even within the confines of a mall food court. It's easy to overlook spots like this, but Poke & Box proves that great food can be found in unexpected places. The quality here genuinely surpassed my expectations, making it a standout during my trip.
While the mall setting might not be everyone's cup of tea, I found it added a certain charm to the experience. It’s a convenient spot to grab a quick, healthy meal while exploring the area.

Read moreLooking to satisfy my poke cravings, I stumbled upon this spot in the Ala Moana food court. The location is pretty cool, and the team here is super friendly—seriously, they’ve got that aloha spirit down! The poke boxes are huge, definitely enough for two meals or to share, and the variety is off the charts. You can customize your box with all kinds of toppings, sauce, and extras.
I went for the Makai box, while my dad tried the Mauka box. He said his was just okay, and honestly, I think I might have gotten a bad scoop because my fish wasn't the freshest. After reading some other reviews, it seems like they might be mixing fresh poke with the frozen stuff—bit of a bummer there. Plus, it’s a bit pricey for what you get; after taxes and tips, a medium box runs about $20. But hey, other than those minor hiccups, this place is a solid find and definitely worth a try, especially if you're into big portions and lots of choices. Just maybe bring a friend to help you finish it, or you'll be hauling leftovers around the mall—because, you know, if you’re paying $20, you’re eating...
