Sometimes i take a gander down the reviews before leaving mine, and this time i noticed the owner responding to every single one with the same general response that the criticism wasnt detailed enough. So lets get needlessly detailed.
Starting with service: our waiter was polite, and he completed all the steps that you expect of a waiter (get our order, bring the food, pass out checks, etc) but when he wasn't doing one of the required steps that waiters do he was nowhere to be found. None of us needed anything during our visit but its always nice to know i can call upon a waiter to help me if necessary. Tldr: service was fine.
The food: I ordered some fish and chips. It claims in the menu that the fish is "lightly breaded" but i would call it more so "heavily fried". The choice of cod wasnt particularly flavorful. The bed of fries the fish sat upon however, was a solid choice of potato sliced and cooked to perfection. I was unable to order a drink due to health reasons, but my colleagues all claimed that the drinks were "just ok" and overpriced. Tldr: the food and drink were nothing special.
The atmosphere: this is easily the bar's strong point. The theme is very obviously tourist hawaiian. From the tiki decor to the very islander style menu, the vibe doesn't let you forget what set of islands you are on. There is also a stage for live music, though no dancing is allowed. And the location in downtown Waikiki makes it easy to walk to. Tldr: the vibes are on point. Great location.
Overall I would say its a place to go if you want to meet up with some friends. But i see it only as a potential place to start the night by getting some calories in your system, as their drinks aren't the best in the area and like most places in this city they shut down prior to midnight.
I hope this is the kind of review you were hoping...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I are were walking down the street without a purpose, just enjoying the warm night air of Waikiki.
As we walked by the first entrance for Cuckoo Coconuts we heard my new favourite band, The Oldies and Goodies Band. We peeked inside and saw people dancing and having a good time but we were hungry and heading for hotpot so we started walking on.
Thank all of the Tikis God's that there was a second entrance door because as we walked by again, we could not resist the sounds of The Oldies and Goodies Band and the opportunity to people watch (bc there were a lot of people ripping up the little D floor) so we went in for a drink.
Our vacation in Waikiki is not done yet, butletmetellya....our night at Cuckoo Coconuts was the BEST TIME EVER. We drank out of pineapples (their drinks are delicious!) and we danced our hearts out and sang along with the band. We initially went in for one pineapple drink and ended up staying for 2.5 more hours just to dance to our new favourite band.
Guys and gals, go here. Do it. Trust me. Especially on Monday and Thursday nights when The Oldies and Goodies Band is playing. You are guaranteed going to have a great time. The drinks were tasty and reasonably priced, the staff were awesome and friendly, the Tiki atmosphere was wickedly cheesy and the band...
Read moreCool place to go if you're into the live music bar scene. The performer who was on stage the night I went was very good. You will have to wait in line for awhile to get in. Their website is also super outdated. If you're wondering, they do serve food here even though the website says different. It's typical bar food and not too pricey. My main issue was that with a place called Cuckoo's Coconuts you'd think they would have the Loco Coco drink that's served in the coconut that they advertise. While I can understand that Covid could have put a damper on the supply of coconuts to this bar, its advertised not only on the website but also at the front of the bar while you're waiting to get in. I didn't find out the drink wasn't being served until after I sat down and got the menu. The wait time to get the drinks took quite awhile as well as one girl was serving the drinks in the entire bar and it seemed like the owner was just serving the locals and the friends of the bar. I probably waited about 15-20 to get my drink. While this place wasn't for me and there are plenty of bars in Oahu, if the live music scene is your gig and you don't mind waiting this may the...
