For me to leave this review, it means that my visit today had to have been so terrible and unsatisfactory that I can’t do anything but leave a bad review for what used to be a favorite. Fig & Ginger is a cute, aesthetic restaurant that my friends and I would frequent last year. We haven’t been back in a while because their menu prices went up, but that’s to be expected with the cost of inflation nowadays. While prices went up, we didn’t expect the quality of their food and service to go down.
My friends and I finally visited F&G again on a weekday for lunch, and the restaurant wasn’t too packed when we got there. That being said, it was extremely odd when they took 10 minutes to bring us just the menu—10 minutes during a time when they weren’t crowded. That was strike 1. Strike 2 was the wait for the food. I can’t lie and say that I wasn’t hungry, so I admit my hungry could’ve affected my sense of time, but the food definitely took another 15 minutes to come out. One of my friends’ and I’s food came first, but our other friend’s food took another 10 minutes—and her order was literally just an avocado toast (crazy I know, nearly 25 minutes for an avocado toast). When my food came, we all ate some of the fries that was included in my order and I was severely disappointed. The fries were room temperature and tasted like it had been sitting out for 1/2 day already. I was very tempted to send it back, but after waiting so long and everything, I was just fed up already. My other friend who ordered their french toast—a favorite of ours—received it basically burnt. I don’t understand how you physically see that the toast is burnt and you still have the audacity to send it out. Not to mention, their portions seem to have gotten smaller (less fruits and cream included). $16 for burnt toast and a few blueberries, yay! That was strike 3. When my friend’s avocado toast finally came. the first thing she said was, “it got smaller.” Keep in mind that we were regulars with F&G, so I’m pretty confident when I say that we know how big the portions used to be and whatnot. The toast, I kid you not, was the size of a kid’s hand and the worst part was the thickness—or lack thereof—of the bread. It was so incredibly thin, like maybe half a centimeter at most. I was absolutely baffled I tell you. Another $16 for a mini piece of toast that was almost paper thin, yay again! That was strike 4. The last thing was that we had to ask our waiter for the check because she was not paying attention to us at all and we felt like it was gonna take another 10 minutes for her to do so if we didn’t.
We were all just heavily disappointed by our visit today and felt like F&G just isn’t worth the high price anymore. The food doesn’t seem to be better, and in fact, it’s gotten a lot worse. Before, I’d use to really recommend this place, but now after today, I can’t say the same. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else with better service, food, and prices cause...
Read moreOK, I’ll admit, if there was one restaurant I did intense research on via TikTok before visiting Honolulu, it was Fig and Ginger. This café came up in multiple ‘top breakfast/ brunch spots in Honolulu’ videos, so I decided why not visit one morning. It was a beautiful 15 minute walk from our resort and when we arrived, it was shortly after 8AM on a Friday and there was one other patron in the restaurant. Our host/server/manager was wonderfully welcoming and warm, and provided us with a few suggestions on some of the in-house favorites. Meanwhile, we were enjoying the music, decor, and overall great vibes coming from the café. We decided on a few no brainer options like the big breakie, which was amazingly filling with the wonderful sun dried tomatoes, home potatoes and seared asparagus perfectly complimenting the eggs and sautéed spinach, mushroom, sausage and egg extravaganza. Another favorite was the mashed avocado toastie that was as beautiful as it was delicious. We also had to try the cinnamon poached fig waffles, which were recommended to us. The figs took this dish to the next level with their savory and dense texture balancing out with the crispy, yet fluffy, waffle. In the back of the kitchen, I noticed a little board that had something scribbled on it that looked like the word ‘ube muffin’. I asked what that was about and our host/server/manager mentioned that they had just received a dozen freshly baked ubi cheesecake muffins. Before she could finish her sentence, I yelled, ‘Yes, I will take one.’ We walked out of Fig and Ginger thankful for the visit and hospitality. I later enjoyed this ube muffin as a nightcap, while sitting on my balcony, listening to the sounds of Honolulu and being thankful for the moment that I was in. TikTok came...
Read moreVery disappointed with my experience, or lack of experience here. I made a reservation 3 weeks in advance and when we arrived, our table was not ready and were told we had to wait until another party left in order for them to accommodate my party of 6. When I glance over at the table she is waiting to leave, I notice the people just started eating so obviously the table would not be ready anytime soon. In the meantime, they took a walk-in party of 4, which left me confused and even more annoyed bc I thought another table was going to be added to the 4 top they just sat the walk-in at. We inquire again about our reservation and the hostess advised that they were going to put (only) 2 tables together longways, which to me still is the same amount of table space and sounds very cramped for 6 people. 20 mins have now passed and we're still waiting. At this point, we decided we don't want to eat there anymore as we didn't even receive an apology for the wait and they just seemed so nonchalant about the keeping us waiting. We decided to take our business elsewhere where it would be appreciated (and it was, so it all worked out). Still, we were so disappointed as we were so excited to eat here. I would suggest this place not even bother with reservations bc they will disregard it. You can only make a reservation for a party of 6 or more and as you can see from their pics, this place is tiny so you'd think they would set aside the large table in the middle and would be the whole point of the reservation for larger parties. In fact I was at another establishment on Thursday that had specific tables that were only for parties of 6 or more. It was just a really, really...
