I came here twice during my stay at the Alamona Hotel. The ACAI BOWL is fresh fruit banana, berries, granola, nalo honey. It became a source of energy for the morning. I also had a dinner for JUMBO SHRIMP LINGUINE: Creamy tomato, toasted breadcrumb. All dishes feature locally made pasta from Onda Pasta in Kaimuki. The pasta is freshly made, hot, and has a lot of jumbo shrimp in it. However, there are shrimp shells, so eat carefully. The lady at the store greet me with smiles. The store was quite empty, so I was able to sit wherever I wanted, which was nice.

Loved this new cafe located in historic Kaimuki! Had our Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Committee there today and they put together come tables to accommodate our group. I had their multigrain (couscous) salad, which was fresh, full of veggies and the portion was satisfying. I also had a mango scone, which was a good end to my meal. The service was excellent and the water pitcher was replenished without being asked. I highly recommend stopping in for coffee, breakfast or lunch.

Recently open Fusion Cafe serves Ruby Violet brand coffee that has a clean taste to match the modernized storefront café with its elegant designs. The pastries are fancy and easily presented in the glass case with a large tv displaying their menu. Ample seating, though no outlets, leads to a quick visit. A new place that is still getting the word out in Kaimuki, with a few other established cafes around this place stays open late switching to a wine bar in the evening.

At the urging of my favorite epicure, I dined at FUSION café + wine with my wife on Friday. A relatively new addition to Waialae Ave’s constellation of eateries, gm Malie Moran and head chef Rian Lee are soft launching dinner Thursday through Saturday. They offer free 2nd floor parking; entrance just Ewa of the restaurant off Waialae. Ambience is dark, NY chic with a wine bar motif replete with artful wall displays of corks and a striking table centerpiece. I started with a delightful Ancient Peaks Cab while my wife enjoyed the unique Moscato Sunrise, a twin-layered aperitif of amber Moscato and plum Pinot. For our appetizer we savored the grilled octopus with Kamuela tomato, watercress, arugula, and sweet pickled onion. I marveled at the freshness and flavor of the tomatoes and greens. Octopus was fork tender, drizzled in olive oil with a squeeze of fresh lemon. My preference is charred on all sides. For our entrée, my wife loved the fresh pappardelle pasta, handmade right next door at Onda Pasta, with wild (Shimeji?) mushrooms, sauteed with slightly spiced serrano and sour verjus. I enjoyed the balsamic and demi glazed pork ribs, reminiscent of the spice-and-vinegar style of North Carolina. Dessert was a delicious affogato with the most flavorful espresso in recent memory. Our exceptional server Nevaeh – that’s “heaven” backwards – was attentive, charming, and quite knowledgeable. Pricing is moderate. Highly recommend giving FUSION a try. Who knows? We may...
