Extremely disappointed with the whole “experience.” Service was poor, food was adequate.
We had to ask for silverware and napkins after our first dish was presented. Dishes were randomly placed without proper timing.
Oysters were extremely overpriced for the quality, $28 for 6 oysters. No dozen price. Lacked freshness, intentionality and thoughtfulness.
Wagyu options were limited, majority were not on the menu, only available option was the Wagyu Short Ribs. They were extremely tender, however they were drenched in sauce and for a $55 price tag, would not get again.
The garlic chicken tasted and plated like it came from a Teriyaki shop, not an elevated restaurant.
Potatoes were overcooked — deep fried or oven roasted, however lacked flavor and presentation.
Overall, had high expectations but felt way short. Will not return, sadly. This review is not to harm the restaurant but more of an honest review. Heard the older menu was...
Read moreDelicious! The oysters were fabulous. I had never had them with uni before and it took them to a new level. We worked from left to right on the deluxe sashimi plate and wanted to get a full plate of each one we tried - it was that good! The salmon was perfect. I was already full from the deluxe plate but had to finish the whole thing for the sheer pleasure of it. We are only here a couple more days and I’m begging my boyfriend to let us go back instead of exploring other new places. In fact, we chatted with a local gentleman who was raised in Japan and he said that it was so good that he’s come here nine times in the past month since they opened. And of course, the staff is very friendly and attentive. I recommend sitting at the bar - it’s nice to talk to the chef, and he clearly takes great pride in his work. 10/10 would...
Read moreOyster Hale is easily my favorite Japanese restaurant in Waikīkī. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and every dish feels carefully crafted with both flavor and presentation in mind. The oyster shooters are an absolute standout—fresh, briny, and packed with flavor, they perfectly capture what makes this place so special.
What really impressed me, though, was the way they balance flavors in their soups. The saltiness of the broth is beautifully offset by the natural sweetness of strawberries and grapes, creating a harmony that’s both surprising and unforgettable. It’s the kind of detail that shows how much thought goes into every dish here.
If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Waikīkī, Oyster Hale is a must. I’ve eaten here at least 8 times on a two week trip. I’ll be coming back...
