Benihana — Restaurant in Houston

My wife and I went there a few days ago for her birthday. I was hoping for a special event. We were seated right away, service started out great. Let the waiter know before hand was my wife's birthday. The other group at the table had already placed their order. Which was fine. The chef came out and didn't ask if it was anyone's special occasion, which is usually customary, at least all the other times we have went. I do have to say that this was our fourth time at this location and we decided to come here due to it's proximity to our other birthday festivities. We first received our salads and soup. One salad looked great, the other looked sad. And the soup, one had mucho mushrooms in it, the other had one tiny little one. Both of the sad servings were given to my wife. I immediately offered mine to her. I'm not big on mushrooms anyway. But both looked drastically different from each other. So , the chef began to prepare our meal. The family across from us had a very basic meal. Some appetizers and mainly chicken fried rice and a lobster tail for the patriarch. Our food came out great, we steak, shrimp, vegetables and chicken fried rice. Suffice to say, our food was pretty much prepared last. I could tell and feel how much my wife was disappointed. Even after letting them know again it was her birthday. It's just part of the experience, especially sharing the moment with others at the table. In the meantime the table next to us, who was sat after us had just received their food and the team came over and sang both the traditional happy Birthday and the benihana one. We just started to pretty much to eat our meal, the people across from us we're almost done with theirs. The waiter came over and asked us if we ready to wrap it up. We had just started eating. Apparently it was the end of his shift. We felt rushed , to say the least. We were pretty much over it at this point. He then asked what kind of ice cream we wanted for dessert. We ordered first, and the party across ordered second. I had already stepped up and retrieved the to go boxes. The people across from us got their desserts and then it took at least 5 minutes to get ours. It just felt like our night that was supposed to be jubilant, an experience and a memory to be shared turned into an afterthought. Even after explaining this to the manager , he didn't dispell of any of our concerns and disappointment. We didn't want anything comped, we didn't want any freebies. We just wanted what we usually come to expect from Benihana. My wife and my extended family have been life long customers, and always look forward to having a great time, with some great food, and meeting great people.
