Mademoiselle Louise is not only the frenchest of all French Bakeries in Houston, I find several of their items to be without contest in the city.
After 15 years of living in Houston I have been able to find a baguette that is not soggy, not too hard, not without a bity crust. In short. The way a baguette should be. But its unfair to judge this bakery on their baguette. Howevee if bakeries cannot get that right, are they even to be called bakeries? Like a car factory sending cars out without tires.
The croissants are flaky, noticeably rolled and folded several times and with BUTTER. Incredible one has to say that. But a lot of places use lard or margarine an one can tell by the moist spots inside the croissant.
One can see the baker/owner and his right hand work all morning on rolling dough, assembling pastries. Everything is made in house. Not like in other places around town were boxes with “french pastries” from a wholesaler specialized in frozen thaw-out pastries are stacked till the roof in the walk in freezer.
To those complaining about not finding anything or enough when they come in. Worry about those places that always have everyting in display. And come early. I several times have not found what i wanted to have. Tough luck. Try something else or come back earlier next time
As for service i cannot say that ever anyone of the staff and owners did less than bent backwards to serve the customers they have. There are waits at times, specially because they try their best to make everyone welcome and serve them well, but some people just prefer to stand in line for a 2usd taco, others for 1000 usd sneakers from a basketball star, I am happy to stand in line for a good french pastry and a good coffee.
And for those that think that in Texas french bakeries need to adjust to Texas. Go to WalMart. They sell french pastries too. Let us enjoy our authentic family owned French cafe with all its greatness and...
Read moreI would have given five stars because the product itself is amazing but the service is lacking professionalism and organization. First off, the employee asked me what I wanted and I listed a fairly big order all for to go, which he then showed annoyance at the fact that it was to-go. He had me state everything I wanted and didn't even memorize it nor recieve the right product and quantity. Then he didn't charge me for one of my orders which I did not realize until I went back and had to ask them if I can recieve my order as well as have them check if they did actually charge me for it. The order they failed to give/charge me was one quiche and they were prepared to give me two, because the employee had taken two out cause he misheard me, until I asked them to check the charge. Then when they realized I wasn't charged for any quiche at all, they rudely commented that I have to pay for it, as if I was lying and trying to get free food. If they had gotten my order right the first time there wouldn't have been an issue. Not only that, many of the employees as well as the baker(possibly owner) saw me come back in with the bag filled with their products and proceeded to ignore me, had me wait in line for about 10-15 minutes again. If they were busy, I would understand this but they had the time to sing happy birthday to one of there regular customers, but no time to fix a mistake they made. I'm not sure of other people's experience here but this has been my first and...
Read moreThe coffee was quite good, but the pastries were just okay—they seemed a little dry and not as fresh as I had hoped. It was early in the morning, and many croissants were already gone. I expected the pastries to be fresher and more accessible. Additionally, the only menu is an automated board that changes so quickly it's nearly impossible to read. This made ordering a rushed and stressful process, especially if you're not sure what you'd like to get.
While waiting in line to order, I noticed a man, who I assumed was the manager, yelling at an unhoused man outside. Despite this uncomfortable scene, we proceeded to order. We bought a coffee for the man outside, delivered it to him, and then sat inside to enjoy our pastries and drinks. A few moments later, the same manager approached us, rudely telling us not to help the man. It was incredibly unprofessional to dictate how we should spend our money and to treat us in such a demeaning manner.
We see the humanity in everyone, and it was disheartening to witness such a lack of compassion. This experience left a sour taste, and I hope the management can adopt a more empathetic approach...
